  1. Yeah if you never left the area of the Leadmine slough it's not surprising that Largemouth are all you caught. Frogwater slough areas are Largemouth territory in rivers. And a spotted bass above tunnel dam is extremely rare. Had you made your way either upstream or downstream 1/2 to 3/4 mile you would have come across some pools with Smallies.
  2. Mitch, here we have a big cove, it has a nice flat backend, several sub-coves, various types of cover and other structures within it. Got one pictured in your head? Ok...... Are you under the assumption that when the water at the mouth of the cove begins moving towards the dam that most of the fish living in that cove are going to leave their lairs and move towards those corners ? Or are you under the impression that the fish that happen to be near those corners at the time are going to magically become hungry and go on a big feed because the water starts stirring up a bit ? If baitfish and plankton were pulled towards the dam every time the water began moving then you couldn't turn a prop near the dam for all the solids in the water there. Points of land do nothing but give you a reference (something you can see) as a place to stop running down the lake and begin fishing. There is no reason whatsoever to believe that the majority of fish willing to chase and bite are THERE.
  3. Thank you! Why doesn't spell check work when it is supposed to ? Let's add computer programmers to the list of jackasses that don't know what the hell they are doing. 😊
  4. I don't ALWAYS disagree with Scientists/Biologists, I just only discuss the matter when I do. Your view of me hating and mistrusting scientists is radical and unjustified. I wholeheartedly believe that lightning is created the way scientists say it is, and not something thrown down from the heavens by a supreme creator. Do you believe enough in scientists that you are comfortable with genetic modification of plants and animals ? I hope so, because it is irreversible.
  5. You are 100% correct. Some believe it because they blindly trust anyone with a degree. Others, like myself, combine what biologists say with personal observations and first hand knowledge from my own experience.....and have QUESTIONS. You know you're on the right track, and probably closer to the truth, when your questions are met with anger and offensiveness. Very VERY similar to religious inquiry's. As far as court trials go, I find it incredibly troubling that a person's fate sometimes is at the hands of 12 people who truly believe that angels exist. In a court trial you are either GUILTY, NOT guilty, or Guilty with a plea of insanity. If everyone truly believes in God and the Bible then WHY isn't there a "God told me to" defense ? "Snake told me to do it. It was that snake right over there. He isn't talking anymore......I throw myself on the mercy of the court". Did you know that claiming to be an atheist will usually disqualify you from jury duty?
  6. It was the magic underwear !
  7. No, as I understand it Pascal's wager is the assumption that you can choose whether or not to believe something, and as long as you pretend to believe, God won't know (or care?) that you actually don't....and you will sneak your way into heaven. It's a con man's thinking error.
  8. The "point" itself is meaningless. Some points have a sweet spot (drop off, piece of cover, rock pile, flat spot, ect) that can hold fish. That very same drop off, brushpile, rock pile, flat spot, ect. along ANY bank will be just as good as the one on the POINT.
  9. That is known as "Pascal's wager". And that's all good if you can CHOOSE what you BELIEVE. If your kid comes in stumbling and smelling of Jack Daniels, but tells you he hasn't had anything to drink ..... Just BELIEVE him and get off his case ! 🙄 No disrespect to your dad by any means, but anyone buying into that caliber of rationalization is not someone I would want as a leader. The reason we have investigations and court trials in this world is because we can't just choose what to believe.
  10. Found another good clip.
  11. As far as structure goes I find that flats along a shoreline are way more dependable than mainlake or secondary points. Give me something like this... Or this... and you can have ALL of THESE....
  12. It was good all over, it didn't just happen on mainlake points. 😊
  13. Yeah I've heard all that "logic". My logic states that you'll catch just as many going along the bank (practically any bank) as you will sitting on some lame posterior mainlake point.
  14. People always say that, but I've never had it happen for me. Main lake points IMO are the worst place to try and pattern fish. Wind can shut you down, boat traffic can shut you down, I just don't see the attraction. I obviously need a lesson...more patience, and a much bigger boat.
  15. I think we need a Bible study thread topic header. 😃
  16. Cain was a felon of the highest order. The "mark upon Cain" was not a visable thing, it was a curse put upon anyone harming or punishing Cane, that they would receive 7x the punishment for doing so themselves.
  17. Speaking of planting seeds, Jesus's cursing of a fig tree for not bearing fruit out of season is a crystal clear indication that he had no understanding whatsoever of how nature works under his father's design. And since we still to this day have figs it is also "proof" that his curse was inept.
  18. I have a possible explanation....Suppose Padre's parents, since they were poor and could do nothing else for him, disfigured him in that way in hopes that he would be admired and treated special. The operation was a success.....for "most of his life". No words from God mention his placement of marks on anyone other than the Antichrist, so it is somewhat unjust to blame him for the marks on Padre, or anyone else. One would think that marks placed by God would be everlasting, no?
  19. Mid-late February in the upper 2 miles of the main channel. A decent number will run up Cole Camp cr. a week or two before the Whites show up UNLESS THE WATER LEVEL IS STUPID LOW. If you catch a white then you're too late. Something along the bottom with a spinner on it (1/8oz Roadrunner, 1/4oz Little George) is hard to beat. Or a Marabou crappie jig tipped with a minnow. You now know everything I do about Walleye on LO, my intelligence level ends there. 😊
  20. I quit ordering from FC because it takes forever to receive the order and if they are out of something you don't know it until the rest of the order arrives. I do all my material orders @ Bob Marriott's in California. Their stuff gets here 2-3 days before anything ordered from FC in StL, and if they are out of something they personally call you on the phone and offer substitutions (usually at a discount). They are the greatest fly-fishing store in the world AFAIC.
  21. #1/0 on the LM poppers, #2 for Smallies. For topwater Whites a Crease fly is a better option than a regular popper Casts further/picks up easier, and has a sexy WTD dance on a fast retrieve. An added bonus of the Crease fly is it does really cool stuff sub-surface if fished on a sink-tip
  22. Pulling Truman back down is why we are at the level we are at now. Allegedly they are not able to release more from Bagnell because of Mo. Rivers current stage. Still alot of water in the northwest that needs to be evacuated before it freezes. They lost alot of dikes and levee's this year and still can't rebuild/repair them because the water is still too high and the ground too wet. Looks like we will be going into spring without the levee's this coming year and they are trying to prepare for that.
  23. I remember when a 6hp 2-stroke was the sought after motors for the White. That's all everyone wanted to run. Light enough to bounce off rocks without busting something, and not enough torque to break a propshaft or driveshaft.
  24. The most versatile boat for this part of the country is the 1648 Jon. It will get you across the roughest water you're likely to encounter, and 2 guys can drag it uphill across dry ground. Add-ons and modifications are endless.
  25. One thing is for sure....he won't outlive the river. 😉 Neither will the Niangua Cattle Company. 🖕
