St. Croix rods
fishinwrench replied to Ron Burgundy's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I have dealt with St.C plenty. They always take extra good care of me. When they discontinued the LU and sent me an Imperial to replace one that I broke, I got all indignant with them. They immediately dropped to their knees, blew me like a porn star, express mailed me a Legend Elite and told me to keep the Imperial or give it to a friend. St.Croix will always have me as a Pro-Staffer. Good folks! -
Classic ! Ma'am, your husband has taken a bad fall and is bleeding out. Emergency personnel are on the way. "Oh for Christ sake, tell the bloke that I'll be there as soon as my hair is dry". 🙆♂️
-
Oh nice one! We got 3" of cool rain up here. I expect the spinnerbait/buzzbait/frog bite to be on fire for the next few days.
-
I found several worthy of it, but they still want 6-9 grand for them. 9-10k is pretty much the limit of what I'm willing to invest in any pickup truck. Even if I could afford a 20k+ truck I wouldn't do it.
-
If I could afford it I'd rather own a couple of restored late 90's trucks than ONE new one. Trucks today have a look and feel that makes me think they are made for women. If I could get by without a truck for a month or so I would just have my Fishwagon completely restored. I might buy a beater to get by and do just that. I forgot about that cash for clunkers crap. Ronnie is right, that took alot of perfectly restorable vehicles away.

I really didn't think it was going to be this hard finding what I need for what I have to spend right now. Haven't been seriously truck shopping for over a decade. I'm a little under-gunned for the current market. I can't believe that people are throwing $15k at trucks with over 200k miles on them. That, to me, is absurd. A used car dealer told me today..."it ain't the miles that hurts the value, it's the years". What-Ever! Time kills things like hoses and seals, which are cheap, easy to replace and won't leave you stranded. Miles kills engines, transmissions, and differentials, that aren't cheap, and will put the truck in the shop for a month. People are doing too much driving, and I don't understand why. They need to move closer to where they REALLY wanna be.
-
From what I can tell they pretty much quit making TRUCKS after about '02. Everything newer than that is built like a cell phone.
-
227k on this one, and for the last year or so it's been one little thing or another. Can't complain because I've used this truck heavily for 15 years. Never left me stranded or been stuck, and that sure ain't for a lack of trying. It's towed everything from Bass boats to 46' barges. Truck shopping is bumming me out bad though. Everything in my price range is high mileage, has too many doors, and has almost as many issues. I'm sick of looking at buses with a box on the back. Where are all the standard cab work trucks at? 🤔

If it is a Legend, or Legend Ultra then you'll have to upgrade to Legend Elite (SCV) Don't expect the action to be the same, the Elite's have a noticably softer tip. Kind of a bummer. The Elite sure is pretty but it is not as sweet of a rod as the old Ultra's were IMO. -
It hasn't stayed locked up again, but I hear a slight howl at 30-40mph coming from the differential. I don't trust it, and I can't be without a truck for several days right now. The Suburban is worthless for moving boats around with.
-
If I enjoyed restoring trucks 1/2 as much as I do boats then it would be a perfect candidate. Always mechanically maintained and one heck of a truck, just getting too tired to trust for trips away from home. She's more happy staying in the yard moving boats around until I run into someone with enough ambition to freshen her up. Currently the G80 Locker rear-end is showing signs of wanting to explode (as they are known to do occasionally).
-
I still make money, the trailers are always worth something and whatever motor is on them always has parts that I can either use or sell. Fiberglass hulls used to cost me 250.00 to dispose of but I found a hog farmer that will come and take them if I help load them on a flat trailer. Not sure if he makes shelters, feeders, or what he does with them, but he has taken 4 so far. Aluminum hulls are worth 50-70.00 at the recycling center.

Thanks, I'm restoring an old classic. And looking to replace a Chevy truck for under 10k, so if you know of a good one please let me know. The old Fishwagon needs seat covers so I guess it's time to break up with her 😢
-
Eh, it's no big deal really. If I push the issue, demand a title, or threaten to charge "storage" then they won't feel welcome to come back after they buy ANOTHER boat. Be forgiving, deal with their duds, and stay on good terms... that's my business decision.
-
She gone! Thanks

Don't forget to take a bail bucket. It wants to go to the bottom quicker than it can get across the cove. People drop these boats off and say "check it out and lemme know how much it will take to fix it up". Then once I give them the news they either decide to go forward with it....or they don't, and then never come and get the stupid things. I mow around them for a year or two then if nobody responds to my call/message they get parted out and/or sold for scrap.

They call'em Paddy long leger's. -
-
Yikes! That rigging looks like it was either done in Vo-Tech class, or by somebody's drunk uncle.
-
Down here at the access there are always kids swimming around the ramps, and you have to wait while they move their towels and floaties before you can launch or load. Well a couple days ago a big old Spoonbill drifted up along the bank..and that sucker is getting riper by the day! Cleared out all the swimmers for the time being. 😊 Took Orion down for a swim yesterday and it was so bad that he didn't even wanna roll in it.
-
That's one time that you wouldn't want shot placement that would anchor it on the spot. The last thing you want is to have to haul a dead bear out of your yard.
-
I'm not all excited about bears. Don't think my neighbors are either. One showing up around here would probably be a fatal mistake.

They love the barter system, take lots of fu-fu beer and a handful of tan stimulators. -
Probably was idling faster than the WP thought he should have been. Isn't the area around the bridge still a No Wake zone? I haven't been under that bridge for several years. If I launch in the Glaize then I fish the Glaize, no need to cross under the bridge.
