  1. There is that ! Lotta fun. I'm just not convinced that it's a smart thing to do.
  2. Cots are ok for solo trips but they can be dangerous if there's any hanky-panky going on. We stack two big air mattresses and it sleeps better than our bed at home. The trick is to only pump the bottom one up about 3/4 and then pump the top one up good and tight.
  3. Look at that slob ! Tell me again why we need hybrid stripers to control the adult gizzard shad ?
  4. I'm not fully aware of everything they have going on, but if it were up to me I would dump the Paddlefish program immediately and auction off everything associated with it to the highest bidder. The next thing to go would be the urban trout rediculousness. And the breeding and stocking of Hybrid Stripers. The LO walleye efforts are a huge waste of time and money....after 26 years it still ain't working so let that crap go. The 2 brand new "discreet I/O runabouts" they bought to spy on folks crappie fishing off their docks on LO.....just sell them before it freezes, because they haven't even written enough citations to cover the cost of winterizing them..... And besides, people fishing off their docks couldn't hurt the Crappie population on LO even if they all were Capps & Coleman types. Quit with the Elk stupidity. Spend the time, money and energy associated with that on giving more attention to bobwhite quail. Quit with the deer paranoia for awhile and spend some real time protecting our river smallmouth better. If they can stay out all night worrying about guys spotlighting deer then they can monitor these giggers a little better. That magazine? Gone. And fire the full-time photographer. Nice enough pics, if you really need them, are free. Next up: train the maintenance crew better and quit buying brand new trucks, boats, dozers, mowers, brush hogs, and backhoes every year. That equipment can last 10 year+ just fine, you don't have to buy new ones just because the blades are dull or they have a flat tire. And stop putting miles on fully loaded 3/4 and 1ton trucks if all your doing is hauling around a clip board and a laptop. The trucks they auction off at 130k miles don't even have a scratch in the bed for Christ sake. Put THOSE GUYS in little Jeep Liberty's or something. How's that for a start? Prolly saved us about 60 million right there, and you never even felt it.
  5. That's the MDC's management decision. It darn sure isn't because only one agent per county is all they can afford.
  6. I have worse problems with RTV Silicone in the shop. If I have to use a pea sized dab of RTV on your boat then you're paying for a whole tube of it. Not really....but I should.
  7. No kidding. If MDC's resources are limited it's only because they threw too many millions at some bone headed project that has no bearing at all on anything worthwhile.
  8. Exactly like spiders. I don't invade their space but they won't hesitate to invade mine.
  9. Before the tornado I had a neighbor that was always messing with exotic animals, and at one time or another he had just about everything you could imagine. He got this enormous bull gorilla and was always on me to "come up and see it". Well I have a thing about monkeys (I hate them) so I really had no desire to go over to his place to see the stupid gorilla. So the tornado happens and while I'm out picking through my wreckage he comes walking over and informs me that the gorilla is at large and is probably scared and confused. Great ! Amazingly the stupid thing came back to it's cage on its own the next day, but can you imagine having a pissed off bull gorilla running around during a catastrophe clean up? Not cool.
  10. The same can be said about anything anybody happens to be afraid of.
  11. Not denying that. I just figure that is the reason that punishment isn't a bit more severe.
  12. I do a treatment of my wife's hair conditioner on all my tails and rabbit hides. It takes that hard crackly feel away, eliminates static, and doesn't leave a lingering smell. For bright colors (chartreuse, red, blue, orange) you can use Spike-it plastic worm dye. Leave it outside until the garlic scent fades away. I've read that a vinegar bath sets the dye better but I kinda like it to fade a bit.
  13. I made a weed eater canoe pusher. I designed it strictly for forward thrust, the idea being that I could drag a paddle one-side or the other and rudder steer it. To help me get upstream don'tyaknow. The first test run I went 5 feet before busting the hard plastic prop I used, and of course I didn't bring a spare. The next time I used a more flexible TM prop and shortened the shaft some because when it was at the correct angle the first time the exhaust was blowing on the back of my neck. It actually worked really good, pushed me upstream through some surprisingly fast water, but it sucked for fishing because I couldn't operate it without getting gas on my hands. So if by chance you ever get lucky with the Sparks twins, be sure to take some hand cleaner.
  14. Well here's the thing: It's pretty hard to give life imprisonment sentences for game violations when deer get killed on the highways by the thousands daily. And it is far from uncommon for spills from wastewater treatment plants and assorted other companies that we want in our towns wipe out complete sections of rivers. If killing a few deer with a gun out of season gives a guy serious prison time, then what would the penalty be for a waste spill or a train derailment that decimates a complete watershed for 14 years? If your argument is "Well those are ACCIDENTS". Are they? Accidents are prevented when RULES and REGULATIONS already in place are followed. So the truth is that the powers that be simply do not wish to hurt those that in some way help communities.....and them. And fish/game violators ride on the coat tails of that. Murder isn't punished to the degree that it should be either, because nobody has murdered more people than our government and the ones they are in control of.
  15. The Sparks twins. That's all I got outta that.
  16. Wasn't being critical, I just realized that he hadn't been talking to us in like forever.....even before the flood. Good boy, they'll be fine. I just miss his feed. The wife follows Amy on FB or I'd never hear anything.
  17. How come that dude never gets on here anymore ? Now he has spokesmen. 😀
  18. As long as it looks cool on Snapchat, that's all that matters.
  19. Yeah why don't I have a stack of those ?
  20. Yeah that would be pretty sweet. I could burn up alot of gas idling around with that.
  21. There are some settings that need to be tweeked on the Nav app, and I'm not sure you can do that on the free version. The way I have mine set now is definitely "good enough" for me. I do almost all of my fishing in less than 15' so really none of the mapping programs are truly accurate in that zone. I couldn't care less what the contours are in 40-70 FOW, but that's where the maps are allegedly most accurate. I guarantee I can point out at least a dozen important contours right away (within a 2 mile stretch of the Gravois) that are not indicated, or even close, on ANY mapping software.
  22. This is what I do also, and it seems just as good as any of them. I did opt for the 10.00/yr version so I could save waypoints and eliminate the ads. Just be sure to blow it up as big as it gets before marking spots....or they'll be 100 ft. off.
  23. It seems to have improved from the nasty brown stain we had 7-8 years ago. It's a pretty normal color in the Gravois now, stained green with about 3-4' visability.
  24. Wind has never been my friend. If I am fishing from a boat I start looking for shelter at anything more than what you'd consider a "nice breeze". I'm totally anal about boat positioning so having to fight the trolling motor to maintain good position soon becomes more like work and less like fun. If I'm wading or fishing from the bank it can blow all it wants to.
  25. Since I've been stinkin' it up so bad out on the shallow flats with the flyrod lately I took the bassboat and the gear out this evening, left the flyrods at home. None. Zilch. Not a single freakin' striped fish. I suck right now I could literally hammer some green bass or crappie right now.....but that's not what I'm in the mood to do.
