Anybody here loose a Ranger Commanche seat ?
fishinwrench replied to fishinwrench's topic in Table Rock Lake
If I had to guess I'd say that someone pulled the pedestal out and laid it on the back deck, then forgot and took off to their next spot. Personally I don't see how anyone can sit and fish, other than maybe throwing deep cranks or vertical jigging. The seats and pedestals are the first thing to go whenever I get a new boat. Can't stand driving a boat with a seat and pole up front either. -
Kinda answers the age old question of "If God created everything then who created God"...... Bryozoans!

are there Goggleeye this big in the Ozarks area?

I've caught some dooseys. The biggest looked to be crossed with a Smallie. I have a pic somewhere, if I can find it I'll post it up. -
You can run anything that's calf deep with a prop outboard on a Jon boat. One overlooked plus is that with a prop you can navigate nice and slow (until you learn a stretch real well) and still have good control of the boat. With a jet you need to be moving pretty good in order to keep the boat pointed in the right direction. If it gets ankle deep it isn't a big deal to raise the motor, step out and grab a rope. A few dings on the prop of a river Jon ain't no big deal, and if you get too brave and bust something.....hey, they make parts while you sleep, somebody has to buy them. And guys like me have kids to put through college.

I always heard them called "water penny's". This is the time of year I usually start seeing them near the surface. Not uncommon at all. They are hard to catch.

A friend of mine found it floating on the Rock and wants to get it back to its rightful owner.

So that's how you're gonna teach them to catch fish consistently......Beg someone to tell them how all the time? When I said I helped a couple of HS anglers I didn't mean I schooled them on any particular pattern. I fixed their boats (cheap) and taught them some things about keeping their stuff working right. These boys, both of them, have jobs and have bought and are restoring older boats. I can respect that. -

Right. And my point is if a HS fisherman wants help then let THEM ask for it. If one comes to me (and a couple have) then I helped them. Helped them substantially I think. They don't need you asking anyone to help you help them. I think they are bigger, stronger, and wiser than you are giving them credit for. Did they ask YOU for help, or did someone ask you for help to help them? That sounds crazy but I think you get the meaning. -
So you think you've seen it all......Well

Right. It will just rip the deck off. ? No, usually it just bends the shaft, but I have seen a bunch of noses ripped off boats. Fish & Ski type boats especially since the transoms on those are built heavy but the noses are built rather light. -
I've always favored Lowrance stuff but their transducers are a bit fragile, and I don't know why they don't build them a bit more robust.

Just to be clear, I never said they should stop immediately, or that nobody should offer up their truck, boat and insurance to help them if they wanted to. Fishing for any reason you choose is what I'm all about. I just personally don't care to help support it and offered up my reasons why. If a kid wants to fish he will fish, he shouldn't need an "event" with all heavy expenses covered to motivate him to do so. A more important lesson (if we can call it that) is that fishing isn't, and shouldn't be, about expensive boats, electronics, and far away trips. And it darn sure isn't about competition. Introducing a young person to fishing is great, but after that you need to step aside and let them seek out information on their own and practice what they want when they want. Why aren't all these HS anglers on here reading and trying to learn stuff? And if they are then freakin' speak up ! This is a thread about THEM, where are they? Has anyone informed these young anglers that there are places online where they can interact with other fishermen and gain valuable knowledge? -

Happens alot. Turn it into your insurance, that's what you pay premiums for. -

When it takes a fleet of 50k dollar boats and trucks to pull them with..... You dam right! Put them all in 14' Jon boats and allow them 4 rod/reel combos...Then we can all just have fun. I had the chance to do alot of hunting and fishing when I was growing up. I didn't, however, get to do any sky diving or cross country skiing. I was really deprived, I just didn't know it. -

Well? If I'm wrong correct me. Is there a valid point that I'm missing? What's next? Should we put them in race cars? Space shuttles? Cliff jumping? Anything that they show the slightest interest in, let's hook 'em up with it. There's currently 40 bass pro's in every town, and only a small handful of them across the country are making a good living at it. The rest are twice divorced and heavy in debt. It's a swell intention and I know it's feel-good-fun for the grownups involved but..... -

Fishing is a wonderful thing, I love it and live it with every cell in my body. But I'm unclear on what competitive fishing is supposed to teach or instill in young boys and girls. Is it about coping and overcoming the outdoor elements (being hot, being cold, being wet and cold) or is it about mind control, networking and the proper use of head games? You can't say that it's about independence and tackling something on their own..... because everything is being done for them. And you can't say that it's about giving them something to do besides smoke dope and drink.... because nothing will make them want a bong hit and a shot of whiskey like a hard butt whoppin' in a fishing tournament. I'm just not sure if I am in support of the whole thing. And I can't beat back the thought that the roots of it all lie in the soil of manufacturers pimping products. -

Oh they need boats alright. Pretty new ones with plenty of horsepower and lots of insurance. Wouldn't want a kid to start fishing out of a Jon boat or anything. -

White river ? -
I'm not gonna diagnose this over the forum because it could be one of several things.....but.... The most common cause is the float sensor built into the engine mounted oil reservoir. The adhesive that holds a metal washer to the underside of the float lets go and the washer falls to the bottom, setting off the "low oil" code. (Which is 4 short beeps every 5 minutes). The fix is to replace the oil reservoir and re-purge the O/I system. Here's the thing that most mechanics don't consider though....The adhesive is actually designed to let go if FUEL gets into the oil reservoir.....so the presence of fuel in the oil needs to be investigated at the same time.

Depends on the season and the water color. That tube isn't gonna be any good if it's muddy. And slowing down has never worked for me on a tough bite day. During September-October on LO if it just seems to be a "dead day" I'll pick up a 1/2oz. Redeye shad rattlebait and just burn down a few long stretches of bare nothing lookin' banks. My theory is that cruising fish are looking for something. They aren't satisfied with sulking on a point or other piece of structure, or sleeping in a brushpile somewhere like all their cousins. I'm gonna cover a bunch of shoreline and look for individual fish that are on the move. That's the best way I know of to get some smell on your hands when nothing else is working.

I'm not fishing it. Usually I keep the shop open and make bank keeping everyone else's stuff running well. My daughter is summoning me to drive to KC to play softball and go to a Royals game that weekend, but I hope to get out of that.

They are a puked up jello-shot, eat at your own risk.
-
Yep this is the time we normally start seeing them here on LO. They let go of the brush or whatever they were clinging to and drift around.
