  1. Disclaimer:. I never use fuel additives or decarbonizers...... (since they don't work anyway), so YOUR worms might die.
  2. 2-stroke outboards are said to be terrible polluters, but I can tell you that in a spot where they are run almost constantly every day for the last 24 years the grass, clover, dandelions grow like crazy and the worms, frogs and other critters never appeared healthier. And the well pump output which is 80' directly below that spot tests perfectly fine every other year. Delicious water.
  3. 20ft. is DEEP to me.
  4. I've had the same Hound Dawg on a 25' heavy cord for like 25 years. That thing has saved me a ton of money in deep cranks, jerkbaits, and jigs. Using it is a skill in itself that takes awhile to learn, but after using it as long as I have I can go in and snatch a bait off a snag with it in about 30 seconds tops. The only time it doesn't work is if I snag an old ski rope or a trot line.
  5. There was a cranky St.Bernard up the road from us when I was a kid. This was before the movie Cujo came out, but that dog could have easily been the inspiration for that flick. To my knowledge he never actually mauled anyone but he sure acted like he wanted to, and probably the only reason he never got ahold of any of us was because he was incredibly slow and short winded.
  6. Actually that 3 cylinder 90 should troll just fine. Probably just needs to have the idle mixture jets balanced out right and the oil injection pump link rod synced. Depending on how heavy the boat is you may want to drag a 5 gal. bucket on a makeshift harness to slow you down a bit.
  7. Yeah we went crappie fishing this spring. He's a busy feller.
  8. Actually the state record Brookie was caught within 2 miles of my house by our old friend Cricket, but beings as how it was an obvious escapee from Troutdale it was immediately released and not recorded.
  9. I totally get the whole thing about a diverse wildlife population that includes potentially dangerous critters, I kinda dig that myself sometimes. But there's alot to be appreciated about things like allowing your kids and pets to go off and explore while camping and stuff, without having to hover over them armed like a secret service agent. I dunno, I just grew up stomping the woods and creeks of Mo. where about the worst thing that was likely to happen to me was getting stung by a bee. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed the outdoors near as much if I (and my parents) knew that at any time I could have been pounced on by a bear or a wildcat.
  10. Iowa/Wisconsin is North.
  11. We rescued a guy on the Salt river in a airboat once. He had taken on some water and the bilge pump quit. He could go in a straight line but couldn't make a turn. Ruptured the fuel tank on a overhanging limb and ran out of gas. He would have spent the night on the river with no food or drink if we hadn't happened along.
  12. One of the things I've always loved about Missouri is that we don't have many bears, cougars, tarantulas, anaconda's, bull gorillas, alligators, sharks, or giant man eating squids to worry about while enjoying the outdoors. So when one of the above shows up and gets killed I can't get overly upset about it. Maybe the judge and prosecutor felt the same way. I can wait until I get into heaven to play with all those type critters, because up there they won't be allowed to eat me, and I won't have to eat them either.
  13. Look at Dogpatch. Nashville. Nothing lasts forever. Not to offend any that happen to be listening, but I've had dealings with quite a few of "those people" and the majority of them really aren't very sharp IMO. How they managed to earn the kinda coin they like to display is beyond me. Something tells me they either stole it or had it given to them. Easy come/Easy go.
  14. These folks are digging their own hole. They wanna own and operate huge boats....but when they get back to their home area they want a nice calm/quiet cove. Problem is: everywhere you can go in your huge boat is SOMEBODY'S home area, so everyone causes problems for somebody everytime they leave their house. Too rough to ski or tube, and finding a chill area to swim is getting harder and harder. All they can do now is ride around in their big boats while wearing expensive swim wear.... and look at each other. Boring ! Stopping at a lakeside place for a burger and a drink cost like hell because the restaurants have to install ultra heavy duty docks and wave breaks. That extra 8 bucks per burger is what it takes just to have a halfway safe place to park your boat. It will go full circle before long. I'm thinking it'll happen in my lifetime. Fishermen and genuine water lovers will still be here when this place becomes a comparable ghost town. Those big boat folks don't even like water. I mean look at how clean and dry they always are.
  15. I'm a little bit impressed by the fact that they harvested the meat. That fact right there keeps me from wanting to see the guys stuff get confiscated and his life ruined. I'd love to know the amount of freezer burnt deer meat and fish that gets pitched every year by "legal sportsmen".
  16. Dang, Quincy?
  17. Dammit I hate hearing stuff like this. As much as I know how quickly things can go wrong I still fail at putting on that freaking PFD and kill switch unless I'm operating in obviously sketchy conditions. I feel kinda stupid for it but the fact is that when I'm in my boat operating it the way I normally do I feel perfectly safe. When test driving an unfamiliar boat at speed I do wear it, and that probably saved my life once. I also ride a mountain bike and 4-wheeler with no helmet, operate a grinder without eye protection, and drive without a seat belt on. Danger lurks everywhere. Should a hunter in the woods always wear a hard hat (limbs fall all the time, just look at the forest floor.... it's littered with them)? Bad things sometimes happen even when it's unlikely, and it's unreasonable to go around constantly being "prepared" for them. People in planes don't wear parachutes.
  18. Two reasons. Engine prop torque lists a boat to the left, so driver weight on the right helps balance that. And Cable steering routs on the right and needs to attach to the Starboard (right) side of the motor....or else the steering will be reversed (a steering wheel turned to the right will make the boat go LEFT if attached otherwise).
  19. Just pick a creek and spend the time necessary to learn it well (from headwater to mouth). There are good 18+" Smallies in almost all of them, but you're gonna have to pay your dues. No creek in the world is LOADED with them.
  20. 6 AWG wire minimum, with a 50-60amp circuit breaker (on Red +) as close to the battery as you can get it.
  21. Pull up Google Earth and look for those clearer sloughs and backwater areas with some depth. Rock or rip-rap with vegetation nearby......oh buddy!
  22. When I think of catfish rivers the middle Gasconade isn't even on the radar. I'm sure there are some tasty little channel cat in those long deep bluff holes. I was working a weed edge with a crawdad fly on the Niangua last August-September and stuck a hefty fish. At first glance I thought I'd hooked a 2 pound Hellbender. Turned out to be a 18" flathead. I sure wasn't expecting that!
  23. Sorry, I missed your original post. The carb is vented so whether you run the fuel out or not the carb(s) will be dry in a few days. The important thing to drain if the motor isn't going to be used for awhile is the fuel supply hose and primer bulb. Fuel trapped in the hose and primer will go yucky after awhile and cause the hose and primer bulb to break down. If the manufacturer calls for 100:1 then that's what I'd feed it. They've done the research and should know what's best.
  24. Could be a fuel pressure issue, or could be a high-speed stator breaking down. Ya need to just have it properly diagnosed.
  25. Those old 18hp Evinrudes are the best river running motors ever. You wouldn't know it just to look at them, but the way they balance on the transom and bounce off rocks is something special. Perfect amount of power for a 16' Jon boat too. If you have one, treasure it.....or sell it to me.
