Once you figure out the angle that you leader needs to be at, and learn how to cast/mend in order to "set up the drift"..... you are basically drifting a FISH TRAP. No problem detecting takes even for a blind man. Bobbers make setting the trap impossible. The only time I use one is if I want to suspend a midge in eddys or really slow water.

The hard plastic tube is a guide that coaxes the water tube into the grommet during insallation. Are all the bits and pieces of the impeller accounted for? You don't want any chunks floating around in the cooling passeges of the powerhead, or plugging up the water tube.

Mercs are metric (since they have been farmed from Yamaha and Tohatsu for quite a few years now) but it's possible that whoever rigged your boat used 1/4x20 (sae 7/16) to mount the control box.

Shove a big flat screwdriver under the impeller and while prying upwards tap on the top of the driveshaft with a hammer. It'll pop loose.

I'll tell ya something that hit a nerve with me the other day..... We have boating accidents on a daily basis here at LO, you hear about it on the local news (paper, radio, scanner) every day. The part that gets to me is that the type of boat involved in any of these accidents is never disclosed unless it is a "bassboat". When it involves a cruiser, or a scarab, or a runabout, pontoon, deckboat, or any other type of boat they just say " the watercraft, or the vessel", but when a bassboat is involved they make darn sure that everyone knows that it was a BASS BOAT. It always sounds like this: "A BASS BOAT operated by So & So had to be removed from a dock at the something something mile marker when the operator, Mr So & So failed to negotiate a turn. The BASS BOAT, a 2007 dual console pink and green Nitro with 200 Mercury optimax, motorguide trolling motor and Hummingbird electronics SLAMMED into the dock, doing considerable damage to the dock and the two moored boats on it. The operator mr So & So and another occupant, Mr. Hoodehoo were thrown from the BASS BOAT suffering considerable injury. Both occupants of the BASS BOAT are reported in stable condition at this time and Missouri state Water Patrol has indicated that alcohol was involved in this BASS BOAT accident". (One of them probably had a budwieser T-shirt on...so "alcohol was involved") Seriously? You never hear all those details about all the other "vessels".... why do they feel the need to hammer that BASS BOAT detail into everyones brain? It's so obviously deliberate that it annoys me.

Is that a 1978 Champion? If the transom is that rotten then the floor and stringers can't be much better. Putting 1000.00 into the transom is out of the question ( IMO). That boat must have been stored with water in the bilge at one time, cuz those old Champs are notoriously good boats. I believe they were only rated for 90hp though. That old "tower of power inline 6" was hell on transoms from the beginning. Narrow mounting bracket surface area and a ton of weight torque. Scrap her out and start shopping for a whole new rig. How much for the trailer?

If you wanna run it up here I'll pull it and it can sit on a stand until it's ready to remount. I'll feed and water it daily, no charge. Sounds like you need to giving advise rather than asking for it. GOOD JOB ! A sweep to the side has always worked best for me on sluggo/fluke/floating lizard type baits. Gamakatsu 58414 is as close to a perfect hook for the fluke as you'll find. I like P-line 15# and use a no-slip loop knot. I put a chartruese stripe on the back of my flukes with a Spike-it marker (helps me to track it and see the takes). Where I fish they are a Spring and Fall bait (with emphasis on Spring. I get no fluke lovin during the Summer. That's about all I got.

Ive caught fish with white tipped fins, and orange tipped fins in the Niangua. I used to think that was an indicator of a stream bred fish.....but it isn't. Sure is a pretty touch of extra bling on them though.

For a crowded boat/toon your best time (read;less frustration) and odds for success would be drifting for catfish with cutbait (shad or bluegill).
