  1. I'll gladly take some city folk to see some elk, non-typical whitetail, and 3 lb. Brook trout, if they'll take me to see real gang-bangers, homeless wino's sleeping on park benches, and a transvestite street walking hooker. I haven't witnessed any of those since Orlando.
  2. Used to be some buffalo in Lebanon but I think they got rid of them. Way cooler than elk IMO
  3. Lymann Moore has elk 3 miles from here, I see them everytime my wife makes me go to Walmart. Saw one sparring with an old D8 bulldozer last Thursday. Bet you can't see that at Peck ranch. So if you wanna see elk just bring your tourist dollars to Gravois 😊
  4. I'd rather sit on my deck, drink MGD, and watch the buzzards eat my fish guts than go look at a million dollar blue collared elk ANY DAY.
  5. If they have one of those Benji Prowler .22's still for less than 100.00 I'd grab one if I was you. That is one hard-hitting, sweet shootin' break-barrel if you're capable of tuning the trigger.
  6. MGD is hard to get around here. I think I'm the only one in the county that drinks it.
  7. Just once that I know of. And I don't even think he was in there, they just thought he might be because he dumped a car nearby.
  8. There's about a 1/4 sq.mi. area north of Versailles, Mo that gets visited by military personnel periodically, and the state and county lawdogs can't even enter it when chasing a dangerous felon. I asked a deputy once what was out there and he just said "we don't know". There's a mailbox at the gate, as crazy as that sounds, but never a vehicle there unless you pass by when someone in uniform is entering the gate in a SUV with no plates. I always wondered if someone stayed there underground. Why the hell else would there be a mailbox?
  9. Nope. I'd feel better if we had all the money back....and never had them to begin with. Like I said, the last (only?) time they could have been used they fumbled the ball.
  10. They blast over our place on average 3 times a week, usually in pairs but sometimes in groups of 4. Everytime they do it I can't help but think...."there goes about 4 million of our tax dollars pissed away today". The last time they were needed they failed to respond, and the pilots on call then are drawing their retirement now. 😥
  11. Oh I'm not saying that someone who is already good at it can't help you. My point was simply to wait until help is wanted, or asked for. Don't school someone on tailing loops until you hear them say "Goddammit why does my hook keep slapping my leader?"
  12. Yeah screw that !
  13. The problem with quick-connect couplers is that when disconnected the O-ring dries out so when you reconnect it the first time you have a 50/50 chance that it will not leak. The second time your odds are 60/40, and so on. If the O-ring in the coupler is blue then those are the alcohol resistant ones. If it's black then its life is probably gonna be pretty short.
  14. Exactly. The concept that there's only one way to properly cast is what's wrong with fly-fishing. As long as your fly doesn't hit the ground (or the trees) behind you then the cast you just made has a purpose. Time and experience will tell a person when to use THAT cast again. My nymph casting isn't elegant at all, but the drift that follows is near perfect.
  15. Not! A rod is what pistons are attached to. Flags are flown, not hung, on a mast. And poles are for strippers....and stripers. It's ok for your daughter to hold a pole, but you don't want her hanging on one!!! That's why we pay college tuition.
  16. When my youngest was 6 she was doing pretty good catching bluegill on a spincast rig so I took her bass fishing, tied her on a topwater popper and took her back into a stump filled shallow flat. She was getting bored and had started just flicking it out about 10 feet from the boat and reeling it back in. As she was doing that a 2-3lber literally exploded on the dang thing about 2 feet from the boat and scared her half to death. She dropped the rod and ran to the other end of the boat, luckily the fish didn't get hooked or else she would have lost her pole. After she calmed back down she said she didn't like "those bass fish" because they were too mean, said she'd rather just stick to catching bluegill. 😄 She's just not interested in fishing now, more into girly things, so I don't push it on her. I wish I could get her interested in it soon though because her coordination is getting really good now.
  17. For trout I tie them SanJuan style (no jig head) and sight fish them in the trout Park. Basically it's just a gut fly.
  18. Because portable fuel tanks only have one-way vents now (they can draw air in but can't push it out) they are phasing out the quick connect fittings. If your tank has the new EPA mandated vent be sure to relieve the pressure in the tank by loosening the fill cap before snapping the fitting onto it.....or you'll get a shot of pressurized fuel in your face. Stupidest idea ever, but now we have to live with it.
  19. Yeah that'd be kinda cool, an actual MoCarp fishing report. I don't believe I've ever seen one. Anybody with an interest can Google up and gather the carp related stuff that he keeps dumping on here. It's so freakin' annoying! It's like my wife's Facebook friend that tags her in every picture of malnourished kittens that she can find on the internet.
  20. They can be 6 feet long if you want them to.
  21. I believe pushing it too hard, and doing all the "work" for them is a mistake. Don't untangle their messes, don't tie on their flys, and don't fetch their flys from trees, ect. Let them experience the whole 9 yards. Amber first began at about 7-8 years old, but I have a 9 year old that still isn't ready. She only lasts about 10 minutes and she's done. Maybe she'll fish.... but maybe she won't.
  22. Mine got the bug from watching me, and from watching Brian Wise (who she secretly had a crush on for a couple years). After going through the basics with her I gave her a good rod, told her to take care of it, and from that point on I left her alone and only intervened if she asked me to. At 22 now she can pretty much hold her own. You'll know when they truly have the virus when they spend their own hard earned money on things like wading boots, fly line, and polorized shades 😉
  23. This one is a bonafide killer.
  24. Harry, you aren't paying attention to what forum section you're in. General Flyfishing Topics. The Megaworm is a fly pattern made with baby blanket chenille. But I have some if you wanna try strapping some to a 6/0 worm hook 😂 I mean, ya never know!
