  1. What's it called when a weak radio signal is picked up by a receiver, amplified, and transmitted further ? HAM radio guys know.....I just can't think of the word. Edit:. Never mind, just thought of it....."Repeater". Cell towers operate in that fashion by line of sight, or in some cases by satellite.
  2. You're lost. Your thought train has derailed. Nobody has to go anywhere near a phone tower. It's checked via computer by an authorized ATT employee.
  3. Somebody has to pay to put minutes on it, and usually that is done with a credit/debit card, or some other identifying source of currency.
  4. Prepaid phones still operate off the ATT towers. Trac-fone, and ect. doesn't erect their own cell towers, they pay to piggyback off of existing towers. Any signal bounced off their towers is data mined.
  5. Yes that is how it works. They can pinpoint it down to a 15ft.circle. I'm guessing there wasn't that many cell phones within 15 feet of that trailer during the known 4 hour period. My wife's BFF is an ATT wizard, they can circle an area on a map and tell you whose phones were in that area at any given time. Only takes about 5 minutes.
  6. A buddy had his car stolen out of his inlaws driveway between 3:00am and 4:45am. I wonder why the law couldn't take the time to see whose cell phone was in that area during that time? They just took a report, said "sucks to be you", and then said they'd contact him if the car turned up anywhere. A farmer in Montgomery co. had a combine stolen too (that's some big money!) and it's a safe bet that they didn't bother to check cell phone pings from that corn field during the middle of the night. Because it is GUNS though, we pull out all of the available technology to find out who did it. That kinda pisses me off. Anyone else? Seems this method could end a lot of kidnappings, missing person, and Amber alert "investigations" also.
  7. Hot foot throttle's are popular but there's a lot to dislike about them. In rough water it's best to have a consistent throttle setting, and that's impossible to do when your bouncing around in your seat. For years outboard manufacturers did not even offer them, they were strictly aftermarket items, but now Merc offers one for smart craft applications only. Lots of premature powerhead failure was caused by foot throttle's back in the Black Max days. Another reason they weren't offered by manufacturers is because unless you keep a very neat and tidy boat they are dangerous. Stuff laying loose on the floor of a boat always finds its way under the console and right under that hot foot, never fails. If you ever lose a jar of pork rinds, spool of line, water bottle, or bottle of Real Craw....you can usually find it trapped in the hot foot. There was an accident last year at the boat ramp because the guys GoPro Hero (that he thought came loose from its mount and flew in the lake) got jammed up in the Hot Foot.
  8. 6th Sense are junk. Leaking has been a problem ever since they were introduced. No experience with the Mega bass stuff.

    What's Cooking?

I do but only use it for steak fry's, blooming onions and chicken nuggets. Fish and puppy's get fried in a skillet.

    What's Cooking?

Fried White's, jalapeno tarter sauce, hushpuppy's, and good ol' Bush's baked beans. Simple pleasures are the best
  11. And to think, all of this is because of that stupid Bee Gees song that got stuck in your head back in the '80's. I'm shopping for a cool hat for ya.
  12. They don't have any problem setting speed limits when there are manatees around.
  13. There is a very important element of the sport that gets very little attention given to it. There are scads of articles and instructional videos about rods, reels, lures, lines, sonar, ect. But when was the last time you heard a "pro" discuss proper trim angle and/or throttle control when crossing rough water? When have you ever drove 2-3 hours to sit through a seminar about safe and responsible boat handling? Oh hell no....but you'd drive 700 miles to hear KVD discuss his hook choice for square bill cranks. Ever heard or read anything about the differences between running with full fuel tanks and full livewells vs. running light? Of course you haven't. There are tons of fishermen out there with hydraulic steering that don't realize that they can't feel steering torque.... therefore they don't know that the alignment of motor and hull is not conducive for safe right hand turns. It ain't a car you're driving, right hand turns are way more clumsy than left hand turns, and the faster you're going the clumsier and more out of control they get if the trim angle is off just a bit. Hardly anybody that is a hot stick Bassin' man even acknowledges that. Everyone's head is full to the brim about how to fish a chatterbait over grass, how to punch matted hydrilla, how to choose the best sunglasses, and how to set up your sonar for optimal target separation. But they haven't a clue about how to read channel bouys in a big river, how to read a squall line, or how to spot differences in the distance between white caps to avoid a shallow bar or hump. Maybe there needs to be more articles, videos and seminars on stuff like that. A bunch of people with D's and F's in basic math are sitting in the algebraic geometry class. The teachers don't care as long as they continue to get paid.
  14. Stuff happens I guess. But these guys are supposed to be "Pro's". Hitting a submerged stump can happen to anyone. Hitting a bridge piling or another boat however....pretty much requires a bonehead at the helm.
  15. Well, some vetting may be in order. Having a credit card and proof of insurance may not quite be enough to weed out the nimrods.
  16. Well for crying out loud! I sat here and gave you all the cred of being a straight up country boy......and now all this canned hunt business is coming out. Ya think ya know somebody.....
  17. Good grief! I'm beginning to get the Impression that there's a bunch of young men with not enough boating experience out there on the tournament circuit.
  18. If it's truly a threat then it sounds like the only thing that can be done about it is to kill off a huge percentage of the deer, which I'm totally in favor of. What are they waiting for? Apparently none of this is as important to them as selling those tags.
  19. How fancy do they have to be ? The ones we use around here are from Hardline Products. 20.00 - 37.00 per set.
  20. I really don't know. The only true "shock" IMO should just be when the piston hits the stop at the end of the cylinder. And in all actuality I don't see why it would be any worse than a bolt slamming shut on a semi-auto powder gun..... but apparently it is. I never had problems with scopes jumping around on center-fire rifles back when I used to shoot them almost daily. I sure don't understand the mechanics of Gamo's RRR (recoil reducing rail). Unless the rail MOVES (which it doesn't/can't) then how the hell does having a nylon buffer attached to a stop do ANYTHING? The dude that designed that must be stoned. A carbon fiber gasket between the receiver and rail would lessen shock quite a bit.
  21. I say "semi-cushioned" because the compression of the pellet in the barrel adds some back pressure. The piston wouldn't slam hard against the stop like it would if say you dry fired it
  22. I thought about getting some to patch up my lipless cranks. The chrome finish on them only lasts one day. Can you buy a whole sheet of the same pattern ? All I ever see is a sheet with 5-6 different patterns.
  23. The thing about piston airguns that I still can't wrap my head around is how that piston moving forward to a semi-cushioned stop can be harder on a scope (and its mounts) than a bolt on a semi-auto powder rifle slamming back and forth?
  24. Good grief! The Gamo has a pin that keeps that from happening. Maybe you should drill and drop a 1/8" pin in that pickatinny rail. Or how about laying a square key in a slot and slide the mount back to retain it ? You do know that there's a torque sequence on those 4 mount screws, right? Middle ones first. I really dig that gun. I've gotta have one.
  25. That's because they always stop here first, and we don't let the good ones get away. If you ever see one down there....Beware! (skeletons)
