  1. I dare any of them to run those 4 money makers a few years past the warranty. I don't care how much money they think they have, I can hurt 'em like an audit. 😀
  2. It has been awhile since I made my way down Deane cr. but now that I think about it I turned off of C for just a short little jog to a spot just above the C bridge. Finding a place to park wasn't a problem. Dragging the canoe back up Deanne cr. was.....a drag, so I've never done it a second time although I really did have a blast and caught alot of nice Smallies. I never really had a desire to float the upper stretch (from TS to Dry branch) because it's so far between good holes, and it looks like it stays that way until you get below Deane, which I think is 6-7 miles (too far to walk and drag). From Deane down to the swinging bridge wouldn't be too bad, and I think that encompasses the best stretch of water. Depending on my workload and my ambition when the time comes I may be interested in joining you. Late August is a great time to play in smaller creeks.
  3. I don't get them until the warranty expires. Too new for me. I do this one though.
  4. I got busted for trespassing on that property about 18 years ago, and I fought it tooth and nail. I asked WHO I was allegedly trespassing on, and they said "Lyman". I asked what they had that showed it was his property? They had nothing, so I pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor got pissed and told me I had better get a lawyer, to which I said "it sounds to me like y'all need one worse than I do". Eventually they beat me down with repeated court dates where they intentionally kept me in the court room as long as they could, and as often as they could. I finally got tired of the head games, pleaded guilty, paid them their piddly 78.00 and got on with my life. I wish I had stuck to my guns though because the way they do crap like that and get away with it infuriates me.
  5. Nobody can claim it. Lyman's dad cleared it and fenced it in back when nobody cared, and he has been keeping folks off of it for over 50+ years. It is his by adverse possession. He wants to sell it NOW but the cost to own it rightfully is astronomical. I assume that when he croaks the state will just take it over. Not sure what the full extent of legalities regarding land being held on those terms are, but it looks to be a friggin' nightmare that I neither have the money or the patience for. That's the way alot of the land was aquired back in the day. A guy would just take off into the woods building fence and if nobody noticed and stopped him then he would start running people off of it and call it his own. It worked.
  6. Below McCaslin bridge on Lyman's property. I've been trying to buy it for years but I doubt that I'll ever get it done. The land was taken by adverse possession many years ago and nobody can produce a deed, survey, or decide how much taxes are owed on it. An extended lease is the best I can negotiate.....but I wan't to build on it and move the business there if I can.
  7. I "think" I can tell the difference between Hybrid Stripers and Whites, whether baked or fried, but it may just be the thickness of the strips and the way they cook @400° . I enjoy eating the whites more, but that may just be because I only know how to cook fish 2 ways (baked in foil or a covered aluminum pie pan, or fried in a cast iron skillet). Whites are short lived (4-6 years Max), spend almost all of their time away from the shoreline and away from the bottom. Something tells me they are the healthiest of all fish to eat, but I have no idea if there is anything to that or not.
  8. We have alot in common. You really should come chase Whites with me this Fall. I think you'd have a really good time.
  9. Wait......What about THIS ? Your problems aren't over yet I'm afraid.
  10. That's just crazy talk.
  11. I'm only showing 3.8" here in Gravois. That's plenty though, we needed something to settle the dust around here. Somebody dropped off a boat without pulling the plug, so now I have one sunk on the trailer.
  12. Was afraid it was just me, cuz i sure can't tell a difference in the taste. Walleye and crappie really don't have much of a flavor, all you taste is whatever you coat the fillets with. You might as well just eat hushpuppies and call it a day.
  13. I'd love to cube and fry up 2 batches of fish, Crappie, and Walleye, each in their own fresh oil, but with a variety of breadings....and see how many walleye fishermen could accurately tell me which ones are walleye.
  14. Hell I spent 450.00+ on fly fishing related stuff last WEEK. I don't even wanna know how much I spent in the last year. Flyfishing cost me another 150.00 today because I crossed the river and forgot that my Moto X was in my pocket. If not for insurance it would have been 700.00
  15. Haven't been up the Niangua in awhile but the Whites in the Gravois are scattered/suspended in the 15-18' flat above Coconut's. Very little surface activity most days, but they'll readily eat a CC spoon, 1/4oz. Rattle Trap, or probably a trolled crankbait.
  16. I fish for Trout, Bluegill, Whites/Hybrids, and all River Bass with fly gear only. Seldom if ever break out "the gear" on those species. Lake bass and Catfish get the bubba tackle.
  17. True, you gotta have line, leader, and a hook. Without those three things the rod is useless. 😎
  18. Oh I don't think I exaggerated. A 13lb. anything can stretch a line real good. A 6# hybrid could drag a 13 walleye around like a Pomeranian.
  19. Late February/early March before the White bass run I can always count on catching a few Walleye up in the creeks after a good rain. The most I've ever caught in a single day is 3, and only 1 of the 3 was a keeper. Last March I heard several guys raving about "tearing them up" below Truman dam, but of all the pics I saw... I only saw one that had caught more than a single keeper (he had 2 nice walleye) and they had also caught a big mess of Whites. So the "tearing 'em up" was in reference to the White bass moreso than the Walleye. Walleye taste good (I guess) but they aren't pretty, don't fight very hard, and everything on them will make you bleed profusely. Honestly I just don't understand the infatuation some folks have with them. If I was stuck in the upper Osage area of Lake O I would be targeting Hybrid Stripers moreso than anything else, because that's a realistic goal that I can truly get excited about.
  20. The same as I do with a baitcaster. Most everyone does, do they not? Why would it be any different just because the reel is on the bottom ?
  21. I cast with my right, switch, and reel with my right. I hold a spinning rod with all 4 fingers in front of the reel stem, so dropping my pinky or ring finger is just weird and would be awkward. Back-reeling is for retards.😁 Nobody back reels with a baitcaster.... even though it would be easier to do with one.
  22. My advice is to go to Stockton or somewhere that has a reliable Walleye population. Regardless of all the time and money being pissed away in the name of establishing a decent walleye fishery on LO.....it really just isn't working. Until at least one person I know sets out to go "walleye fishing" and comes back with a limit..... I'm not bothering with it.
  23. If you have the anti-reverse off what do you do when you take your hand off the reel handle to land the fish ? I ain't fumbling for that little switch at that critical moment. Forget that!
  24. There are several resorts here on LO where the owner, or a certain worker, take it on themselves to be the No Wake Police. If they see someone motoring by above what they consider idle speed they will immediately stop what they are doing, run out to the end of their dock as fast as they can, and start waving their arms and screaming at them. One of my I/O mechanic friends has this affliction and it doesn't matter how deep he is in an engine compartment.....he will break his neck getting out of there to run 100 yards and raise hell with No Wake violators, and you had better not get in his way or he'll mow you down. I asked him one day how the hell he ever got anything done around there? He just shook his head and said "Well these ******* just don't GET IT !". We were at a parts store recently and we were all standing around BSing. Homeboy announced that he was gonna retire after next year and somebody asked what he was gonna do after retirement. I said, I know what he'll do, he will put a Lazy Boy out on the end of the dock, he will have an air horn in one hand and a megaphone in the other. There's no way he can ever give up screaming at boaters, it's his favorite thing to do. I told him that if he ever died I was gonna put a No Wake bouy over his grave. "Here lies Merlin...NO FREAKIN' WAKE!!!"
