Well, there hasn't been an "ignorant fisherman" come through and destroy them thus far, and education is even greater now than it was in all the years prior. So I guess I'd be opposed to a closed season on the blue ribbon waters, especially the NFOW.

I "heard" that pb2 area was still clear a few days ago, but I doubt that it is now. Shawnee bend is usually among the last to get locked in, followed by Gale, but I haven't been by either lately. Bagnell tailwater may be the only game in town....but I'd rather go trout fishing somewhere than to spend a day fishing that dead ditch.

Look at your BOAT registration card. Nothing on it identifies the outboard that is on it, and nothing on the outboard registration slip says that you must carry it at all times. If you wanted to borrow one of Babler's 20hp Yammie's for a few days then you could do so without going up to the DMV and paying an assortment of fees. And any MOWP officer that writes you up for it is just being a thug, plain and simple, unless they are investigating a theft......which they NEVER do, EVER.

I think alot of the fees they assess to things like licenses and registrations are voluntary for the most part. Folks are scared that they might get in trouble so they just pay it for piece of mind, but how often do you hear about anyone actually being checked or punished for it? It's head-game thuggery. Kinda like the titling and registration of small outboards. In all my years guess how many times I have heard of anyone being cited for operating an unregistered outboard? Zero. Never. But if you buy a used 4-70hp motor you'll go right up and pay sales tax and registering fees on that little SOB everytime, then stick that NEW little white square right on top of the old one. Why? Outboard registration is a one time thing..... so who is to say it isn't BORROWED? No crime against borrowing an outboard is there? Nothing on the boat registration says WHICH outboard is to be attached to it. It's a bulls#!t fee that everyone just voluntarily accepts and pays, and the state just LOVES that kinda stuff. LOL Why aren't Dirt Bikes and bicycles required to be registered? Prolly won't be long.

Fuji or PacBay SIC are what I use. But I'm kinda ol'school when it comes to my rods. That said... if you're building on a good blank there's nowhere to cut corners, so go with the best stuff you can afford. Nothing kills the build worse than some low grade cork, a cheap real seat, or cheesy guides.

There's alot to be said for underground utilities. Nothing is uglier than a bunch of arial cables and poles, especially when stuff like THAT happens.

There is a 10hp regulation posted but I've seen plenty of larger outboards on the lake (if you wanna call it a "lake"). Idling with a larger outboard is apparently not frowned upon. As for the fishing: it fishes about the same as any other backwater slough on the river. The folks that live nearby and fish it regularly pretty much eat everything they catch I think. Lots of roughish, water birds (some of which have a terrible attitude), turtles, and stunted panfish

You could try cleaning the threads with alcohol then wiping a bit of clear RTV silicone on the threads, then attach the reel and let it set inside overnight (best cure at 70°). You'll be able to clean that up easily if you want to later.....like if it doesn't work The only other idea I have would be to install a recessed hex set screw.
