  1. Your bait choice is fine for starters, maybe lighten up on the weight some and look for areas where faster current meets slower or no current (known as an "eddy"). Also study the makeup of the banks and concentrate on spots where the shoreline changes (a pile of big rocks along a smooth gravel bank, for example) or anywhere there is an object that fish can get next to. If there are alot of objects then look for the ones that are slightly different. Or something (anything) that alters the current. It can be really subtle. For example: a pond I fish regularly has a flooded fencerow along one side, there are 9 fence posts that are submerged and two of them are not straight, they are leaning towards the center of the pond. The most consistent bites always come from around those two posts.
  2. Ermergerd ! Sorry WeiGoo, I am furloughed clown making tasteless joke. http://www.oocities.org/yosemite/rapids/9007/tailwaters.html
  3. Look at it this way: It all flows downhill, so the closer they poop to the river....the sooner we get rid of it.
  4. Not to worry, the "regular folk" parking area is closest to the door and can only fit Fiesta's and Prius's. Have you ever been in a bar/restaurant that is full of cowboy hats? It can be intimidating.
  5. Heck Yeah! Whatcha gotta do is cast up into the lake and feed line down through the turbines. Be sure to use a quality snap-swivel to ward off line twist, and hold on tight to your gear cuz the bites are ferocious!
  6. On the river, since I hate shuttling with a passion, I usually fish my way upstream. So if I pass someone we'll both be fishing "used water" for a bit. If I've seen, missed, or spooked a goodun on the way up I'll usually drop the tip on whoever I see first.....IF they seem friendly and appear to be C&R.
  7. Well hey, cheap liquor and sequesters go hand in hand, right? Can't blame the pilot for choosing to land within walking distance.
  8. That Rocks! I'd print and frame that for sure.
  9. I've started referring to the Bagnell to Blue Spring stretch as "The Dead Ditch". Drives me crazy because there was a time..... but I haven't had even a "decent" outing there in a long LONG time.
  10. The way I read it they will go offline after 1-13-2014 (that is TODAY) Is that right?
  11. I am sure that Smallies have been wintering in and below the trout parks for 100+ years, but the fact that they went mostly overlooked for almost all of that time was obvious. When I first stumbled onto it myself I put some serious pressure on them. Too much really. After only a single season I could tell that I had effected what was going on there.....And I'm only ONE guy, so...... Since it's all out in the open now I just think what ALSO needs to be out in the open is the realization that probably 80% of the Smallmouth population from a 10+ mile stretch of the river is what you are hacking away at when you find any good wintering groups of Smallmouth. You've just gotta treat that knowledge responsibly if you give any kind of a $#!t about the river you are on.
  12. I bet there was a serious moment of "WTF?" when the crew at that little airport saw that big bird coming in.
  13. One of the videos I saw mentioned that they'd be flying it out of there tomorrow. Is that enough time to inspect everything? Seems like the stress from a landing like that would cause some structural concern as to the future service of that jet. I guess they know what they're doing.
  14. After a seat-biting nosedive from a seaplane at age 12 I've found it really easy to avoid boarding any type of aircraft ever again in my life. I don't trust the machine, the guys building/maintaining them, or the ones piloting them. Gravity is a bitch.
  15. Fly fishermen who fish mostly in a trout park are usually the worst about hole crashing and crowding your space. It's a common and expected practice in the parks and they aren't programmed to act any differently when outside a trout park atmosphere. As in Al's experience, (above Baptist) you're always gonna be subject to "park dweller" overflow. On the lake here, thanks to the popularity of new-tech electronics and deep water tactics, I almost always have the areas I want to fish all to myself even on busy weekends. It's great! I don't mind taking their shallow swampy leftovers one bit
  16. The more politically correct you are online the more lurkers seek to learn your fishing areas. If you'd try to come across as more of a peckerhead then they will be more likely to avoid or discount anything you might mention. Everyone knows where I fish, yet still I enjoy solitude
  17. I had a guy come in with an old '74 Ranger/65 Merc rig today. Still solid as a rock....the boat that is, the motor=not so much. Old Merc Thruster TM and original Byrd flasher is still in service though. Pretty cool.
  18. OMG, I can't wait !!!!
  19. The bottom line is that there are just too many people in the world, and we are getting in each others way.
  20. Thy rod and thy paddle, they comfort me....
  21. And when it's being swung over a gunnel the fish can sense that it is HIM that's having a bad day.
  22. It would be informative if the nimrod would specify HOW he was harvesting them. Obviously dynamite is gonna get you a citation. Edit: ...as are trammel nets. That cat has one hell of a pedigree! They should just give him a cot to sleep on at the courthouse. Holy Smokes!
  23. It's great below the dam for asians. Do the river a favor and thin those bastards out PLEASE! Bring friends.
  24. In my case it is near impossible to slow down and "tease" a bite until I know there are some willing fish nearby, so I cover the area at a fairly quick pace until something bites. And I gotta say that for me, more times than not, a pause of about 6-8 seconds at the very most gets the job done better than forcing myself to slow down any further.
  25. Yep. Which proves that it's only the putting together of the puzzle that feeds the addiction. Only after all the pieces are in place can you step away from the table and feel any sense of satisfaction. It's always been easier for me to NOT go fishing when I am 100% certain that I can catch them. Crazy ain't it?
