The guides will often suggest soaking a crawdad, but deep crankbaits (DD-22's and the like), C-rigged centipedes on humps, or pitching shallow docks and brush in 2-4' in certain areas will all catch some quality bass during late Summer. If you're going with a guide though you'll be better off playing to his particular strengths and taking his suggestions. If a day with him doesn't scratch your itch then go at it alone the following day using what you DID learn from him....cuz you WILL learn.

I don't think the COE is in charge of generation release at all. Floodgate operation MAYBE. I have never seen a COE truck/car at the Bagnell parking lot or anywhere around the structure, so if the corp is a presence around Bagnell they hide pretty well. I don't recall anyone from the COE making any statements during the shoreline management discussions.

There's a bunch of eating sized channel cat in the backends of the coves too. I caught a good mess in 4 hours yesterday evening and never even had to change spots.

Exactly! LOL I only carry liability coverage on my truck, so when I sense a hailstorm I squeeze it into the garage. The garage is fully insured. Floods don't come crashing down on you like an earthquake with no warning, if stuff needs to be moved to higher ground then you'd better get off your butt and either move it, insure it, or loose it.

You mean like Me? I either repair the damage myself or hire someone else to do it. In my case I'll do a little of both, so I'll be buying a wheelbarrow, 2-3 loads of gravel, and either paying for/or bartering out for some backhoe assistance. It doesn't kill me and it helps a few others. On the other end; Someone will undoubtedly smack a log with their lower unit and it'll all work out. For operations with more damage than I received there are these things called insurance claims. I'd rather see all that premium money back in circulation rather than drawing interest for the insurance corporations. Just my twisted viewpoint.

I don' t think I'll ever see the day that there's too much water. Bring it on! Flood damage produces jobs and there's still plenty of dry land to stand on. Just don't fall asleep next to the creek and it's all good AFAIC.

I agree with this : I never do any whitewater paddling but I've always liked and preferred the heavier polylink hulls. Neither me nor an F2 tornado have been able to tear one up. The extra weight doesn't bother me because I bought my canoe to float in, NOT to carry. I can drag my polylink model over a dry gravel bar with one hand.

No kidding! I had forgotten about THAT! Those boulders were a permanent structure in the river that created one of the best runs that could be accessed by road. He wanted to use that spot for a launch/takeout and was probably afraid too many knuckleheads would swamp their canoes there, so the basturd goes in with a friggin' D80 and totally "redesigns" that stretch. How the hell can you get away with that? Especially when it was a MDC owned area WAY before he came along. Now I'm pissed all over again ! I like the folks and crew at Riverfront and at Adventure, but NRO, Redbeards,and The Park really should be reigned in until they realize that they are USING the river, not OWNING it.

Makes sense now. I actually first saw that on an old Heddon lure included in a collection, it was one of those cigar plugs with the metal ring around the head (the name of it escapes me now.....I wanna say it was a very early "spook" but I don't think that's right). Anyway, I remember thinking that "some bonehead put that on there, and if it was part of MY collection I'd take the stupid thing off". LOL Turns out "that bonehead" knew more than I did. Edit: it was a Dowagic minnow. (That drove me crazy)

I just figured that the hatchery trout couldn't hack it in a warm water flood. Maybe Denny can prove me wrong this time by having a banner late Summer/early Fall.

Hate to pee in your cheerios but I've seen this before on your favorite river. The trout bite on the Niangua is probably gonna suck after this major flush of warm water. A cool rise might have been good, but I'm about 90% sure that this warm flood will pretty much wipe 'em out.

Some really cool accountings here. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when someone asks my kids the same question in the future. I stopped trying to "teach" the day I realized that my barking instructions was making my oldest daughter nervous. From that point on I just bit my tongue and let her figure it out on her own. She's 18 now and I'd put her up against any 20y/o boy around here I hope she keeps fishing long after I'm gone.

Dad was only a part time fisherman but a full time quail hunter, he lived bird hunting all year round and knew the names of every pointing dog in ours, and surrounding counties. His dad, my papaw, was the "real fisherman" of the family and HE knew the names of every bend of every creek/river north of I-70. There were only 2 flyfishermen in our area and as far as I know he was the first. I don't know who influenced him but waist high stacks of F&S and SA served as end tables in my grandparents house so he prolly picked it up from Zane and Tap. He fished "the seasons", starting the Spring off chasing flatheads, then buggin' for bass, then limb lines for channel cat during Summer with a few trips West for trout thrown in right about the time school was starting (was pissed that I never got to go on one of those). Then in the Fall it was back to bass buggin'. The flyrods never got a break during the catfishing spells since their job at those times were to keep the lines baited after he had bought every XL goldfish from every baitshop within driving distance. I'll probably get some hate mail after revealing this: but I have yet to see the numbers of 15+ Smallmouth in the "Ozarks" than what was common in the Salt river tribs. Before I moved down here I expected the SM fishing to be AMAZING because of what I had read about "Ozark streams", but aside from the scenery and the coloration in the fish I still remain a bit unimpressed. Those ol'muddy creeks up north grow some brute smallies. You just have to concentrate on the stretches that "remind you" of Ozark streams and ignore the long stretches of mud/clay banks.
