Quick! Missouri Trout Regs Question.
fishinwrench replied to hoglaw's topic in General Angling Discussion
You can get a single day non-resident fishing permit for 7.00, you won't need a trout stamp unless you plan to fish the parks diring Winter C&R or you wanna keep a few from the regular management areas. MO. Yearly permits expire Feb.28 of the following year. -
How Is This Economy Affecting Your Fishing?
fishinwrench replied to troutgnat's topic in Table Rock Lake
I have evolved into a cheap date. Got most of my traveling and exploring far-away fishing holes out of my system awhile back, so now I'm plenty content fishing familiar water close to home which amazingly has resulted in me catching way more (and often bigger) fish at a fraction of the cost. My eyes aren't what they used to be so "New Scenery" just frustrates me more often than not. -
tracker boats?

I'm going to resist disputing anyones beliefs on this topic but I just have to throw one comment out there... Basing your outboard motor purchase decision on "fuel economy" is like choosing a 20" snow shovel over an 18" snow shovel and assuming that it'll take noticeably less time to clear your driveway. In an equal comparison, over a days fishing the differences in fuel consumption among different engine designs and HP ranges would be measured in teaspoons. -

Oh man, I'm betting that building spinnerbaits is not Dave Ramsey approved. Prolly about as economical as tying flys. It takes me $4000 worth of fly tying material to whip up $50 worth of flys. -
Sonar For Small G3 Or Tracker/ Fly Fishing For Bass
fishinwrench replied to joe2011's topic in General Angling Discussion
Fly fishing on the bigger reservoirs is best confined to the upper ends of the creek arms and the back 1/2 of coves at first. You need to narrow down your search area to water that you can effectively cover until you build up confidence in a few techniques, then "graduate" (so to speak) out into the bigger water and deeper presentations. The best way to approach it is to begin about mid-April and then try to stay on fish through the spawn, into Summer, and all the way into late Fall. If the water your fishing has some color to it and plenty of cover you'll be shocked at how shallow of a pattern you can keep working. Reservoir bass don't see many flys and there's some sweet things you can do with fly tackle that the gear guys never even dreamed of..... like using a half-assed roll cast to make a fly swim away from you then abruptly do a 180° and speed off in the opposite direction! Or using "mends" to swim a fly sideways back and forth repeatedly in front of a laydown. Yeah even heavily pressured fish will cream it, and the guys fishing gear can't pull that little move off. LOL The sound flyline makes during a stillwater mend or a half-roll actually will bring bass out of cover to see what's rippin' the water..... I think it sounds to them like Something on the Feed! Lastly; Think big....like almost "musky / coastal striper Big" with your fly selection, and don't be afraid to shoot a fly up under stuff or right in the middle of heavy cover. Pussy-footin' around because your afraid to get majorly tangled in a tree will cost you alot of excitement. Pick a shot and just Go for It before your conservative judgement has a chance to tell you not to.....cuz you KNOW he's in there. Once he eats it in the middle of a treetop, and there you are with flyline laying everywhicha way...... Well, you're on your own -

Yeah I dunno. I'd personally never accept their handouts ....BUT.... Something (some little voice inside) tells me that our gub'ment wouldn't be offering jack s#it to anyone if they didn't know they were somewhat responsible for their situation. -
Here's a project for ya... http://makeprojects.com/Project/Wooden+Outboard+Motor+Powered+by+a+Cordless+Drill/1195/1#.UNjkCpNZ44w Ya just gotta ignore the fact that for the cost of a decent cordless drill you could just .....BUY A FREAKING TROLLING MOTOR! LMAO

Drew, Are those 3 the only "navigable" rivers in the state? Man that blows! -
Yep, This ^ Very reasonable too. Windshields on Pre-90's models are an exception though.

No man, I was just taken back that someone can't live comfortably on 14k/mo. without also running their credit cards to the limit. Maybe I'm jealous, does that piss YOU off? -
Excellent work both of you Beavers. Hey Eric, ya know what that step stool needs?

Usually the sun beating on the flake will have clouded the clear-coat..... there's not much you can do. If you just want it to look good for a few days you can clean it up real good and do a 3-part wax job, but the first time you take it out the cloudiness will come rigjt back. Enjoy your FISHING boat..... who gives a rats butt how sparkly it is. Those Champions are the best!

Folks eating rice and beans, riding bicycles with rags tied around the tires and selling taters out of a wheelbarrow in your neighborhood? Poor ol' flatlanders. darn economy! -

I'm with ya, Champ. As long as my family and I are healthy and fish still swim in the lakes and creeks within my reach I can cope with just about anything else in the world going to hell in a handbasket. -

During a period of insane boredom the other day I was listening to the Dave Ramsey show on the radio, and people were calling in to brag and scream with excitement about how they had become DEBT FREE (except for their house) while making 170k+/year.... And I was like.... Oh please, FO ! I mean seriously? You bring home 170k/year and you were stressed out over some credit card bills and a car payment ? WTH? They said they had to eat rice and beans, and really sacrifice to pull this debt snowball off. I was speechless. -
7 pounds and some change seems to be the majority LM size ceiling in all of MO. Bass 8lbs. and larger are drastically fewer.... or at least drastically fewer of that size are caught. Do you think most bass croak at about 8lbs in this region, or do you think they begin to change their feeding habits as they get close to 8lbs. ?

Yeah but that:s just a game I play cuz I get lazy when it's cold out.... I can't honestly blame it on a poor economy. That would just be a cop out. I'm hip to the reality of it all. So Jerry, does that mean that when they all hit their limit and judgements fall against them that there will be 5 dollar Wiggle warts again? Sweet! -
Active Shooters In Schools. The Enemy Is Denial.
fishinwrench replied to jdmidwest's topic in General Chat
No kidding. I can't believe the arrogance of these wannabe gun toting saviors, and the ones supporting that movement.... To automatically assume that the good guys will always win in a gunfight is quite a leap. Rather than pay a guard just put a tax free $100k in a case and when a killer appears .... buy him off. A free 100k can change anyones plans for the day. -

Theeeere's your sign! Why not take a moment to look into that societal anger.....maybe there's a way to curtail that. Ya think? -
How Is This Economy Affecting Your Fishing?
fishinwrench replied to troutgnat's topic in Table Rock Lake
I keep hearing that the economy is in the dumps ..... but I sure can't tell it by looking around. When I go to town I only see fairly new cars/trucks, hell I can't even remember the last time I saw anyone driving an old rusty beater. Gas prices are high yet the roads are always busy as can be. All the shopping mart lots are full. The sky is full of jet trails as masses of folks travel abroad for both business and pleasure. Real estate folks are all driving new cars, sporting 70.00 haircuts, 150.00 shoes, and 60.00 fingernails...so apparently property sales are doing well. The bass fishermen are all towing fresh boats with sweet new trucks, throwing 30.00 wiggle warts and 50.00 jerkbaits. Restaurant and bar parking lots are full every night of the week. Lots of new Harleys on the road.....hell even the bikers are looking rather upper-crust. So I dunno, unless EVERYONE is operating via credit card (which might explain the ecessive Air Miles) I just find it hard to recognize this financial peril that everyone is supposedly experiencing...... except for Me! LOL -

Active Shooters In Schools. The Enemy Is Denial.

My high school vice P would have loved to carry a gun, and considering his personality and lack of a sense of humor I'm sure he would have been sticking it in our faces on a daily basis. He was a genuine jackass and considering that most of us had guns in our unlocked vehicles in the school parking lot it is a wonder that he never got shot. So faculty packing heat? Noway! I'll never be down with that, because alot of school personnel are closet psychopaths. -
Lake May Be Drained To Raise Mississippi Levels
fishinwrench replied to Riverwhy's topic in Mark Twain Lake
Supposed river veterans whining over a single portage that isn't even a reality yet. What a bunch of crybaby's. Sometimes carrying out your job can be a tad challenging, get over it! I wish to hell that I could call on the government and the COE to eliminate obstacles everytime a problem surfaced around here. 10 million+ for the COE to knock down a few high spots..... would it really cost more than that to load/unload the barges a few miles further downstream, just until it rained a bit ?
