siu, if you want to try another part of the Big Muddy go up to Rend Lake below the dam. Take a box of Wheaties to make dough balls. Use your long rod and lob them up to the dam face. It use to be carp galore there. You could have a blast. Speaking of carp, I caught one about four pounds yesterday at K Bridge. Bread doughball that I had been using to catch perch for the dogs to play with. Put a bigger bread ball on and cast out into deeper water and caught 2 channels about 2lbs apiece. Started raining and Karen wanted to leave. All the fish came on my ultra and 2lb test. I sort of like that junk fishing at times!
  2. wow, the weights were down.
  3. unfortunately they will never be controlled. The money being spent on trying to keep them out of the Great Lakes is idiotic. The only hope the Great Lakes has is the cold winters. Maybe they can't tolerate a real cold environment over an extended period of months? Sort of like the Zebra Mussels, they will get everywhere sooner or later, no matter how much of our tax dollars are spent trying to control them. We will just have to learn to live with them.
  4. you might also try Steve Wilson if Jack doesn't work out. Bassfactory@charter.net or call (314) 406-3913 I will also suggest to him to start posting his reports here.
  5. yep, it will take a good 3 to 6 inch area wide rainfall to get any serious flows going again. Maybe we can get a tropical depression to head up the Mississippi Valley in the next couple of months.
  6. college sports are suppose to be amatuers. But the SEC has never used that as a guideline. Missouri is in way over their head I am afraid. I am on another forum where the fishermen in the southeast would kill for their SEC team. It amazes me how they worship the "athletes" at these schools.
  7. he was intentionally fishing for LM's with normal crankbaits.
  8. great intentions all around! On a side note, my buddy has fished Carlyle several times this summer and has caught a lot of LM on cranks off the rocks, plus some big cats on the cranks, and many white bass. Carlyle has had some great spawns recently with the floods.
  9. The Great Lakes have had them for 25 years or so. The smallmouth fishing has went ballistic since then. Use to take 15lbs to win a one day event. Now 25lbs or so. Maybe the Zebras aren't so bad?
  10. Clayton? Why didn't we do it ourselves instead of the Chinese?
  11. the best indicator I have found is to idle past a deep bridge pier. Look at what depth where the fish are stacked up. The Thermo will be a couple of feet below that.
  12. please keep us posted Lilley as the law suits continue. There has to be more to the story. Somethings just didn't make sense in the article.
  13. Jim, it might very well be because of the full moon.
  14. nothing to discuss. The masses showed what is right.
  15. just an easy idea maybe for you. Several years ago I use to go the 185 ramp and put in. Then we would go upstream with the trolling motor on a jon boat. At the first riffle we would seine a bunch of minnows. We throw plugs, p worms, etc going upstream and always catch a few. At the next riffle we would beach the boat, pull out the ultralights, wade into the good moving water and toss minnows upstream and let them float down. We caught a ton of smallies doing that. Nothing huge, but it sure is a fun way to fish away a hot summer day.
  16. any incumbent now spends most of their last 1/2 term in office campaigning to get re-elected. 6yrs is too much in my opinion. 4 years max, and they would be working for all 4 years. If a State Rep does good in 4 years and people like him, then he can run for State Senate. Same with the US Congress. Representive for 4 years, then if you are good enough try to run for the Senate. You could still be a career politican, but you would have to earn it.
  17. hey Chief, how many Jobs Bills has Harry Reid blocked from Senate consideration?
  18. everyone, I think agrees, health care needs to be reformed. But Obama Care is not the answer. When the speaker of the house at the time said, "we will just have to pass it to see what's in it", anyone with common sense should have seen MANY RED flags. And now we find out that will be taxes on home sales to help fund it. What other hidden taxes are in it. No one on this forum has ever read the entire 2000+ bill. And yet some think it is o.k. I just shake my head in amazement. I blame republicans as much as democrats. The republicans should have read it word for word as soon as they got their hands on it and started the bashing the next day. I myself, will find it very hard to vote for any incumbent. Until we get elected officials who truly represent you and me, this crap will continue. I would vote for a one term limit for every elected person in a flash. Let's don't even get started on a balanced budget..............
  19. my daughter got me an official looking Border Patrol hat for my birthday. You should see them run when I go into the Hospital for a check up. I once walked into an Emergency Care Clinic with it on for S&G and I sure wish I would have videoed it.
  20. wow! Great! And I don't even fish Table Rock anymore but sure can relate to this A1++++++++ report!
  21. Lilley, nice rainbow by the way, but this country is really being divided. Justin, if you want govt controlled Health Care just move to Canada or Cuba, and report back when you can. Heck, the govt can't even run the Post Office. If you take in so much in 2006, shouldn't you base your base your 2007 budget on that amount? Duh? But the Post Offfice management can't do that. Why is that Justin?
  22. just the fact that Nancy Pelosi said "we will just have to pass it to see whats in it" was enough for me to raise many red flags. Much less one of my kids who is a Doctor........hates it. And that Obama promised transparency in all bill proceedings to be shown on C-Span, and then this Act was passed in the middle of the night with no coverage.......... just another thing that makes no common sense. And remember the Swine Flu scare that was running rampant at the same time? Home Sales Tax-effective Jan. 1, 2013 IMPORTANT WARNING! YOUR CHILDREN WILL PAY THIS IF THEY INHERIT YOUR HOME. There is a saying in Florida : If the gators don't get you, the water moccasins will. When does your home become part of your health care? After 2012! Your vote counts big time in 2012, make sure you and all your friends and family know about this ! HOME SALES TAX The National Association of Realtors is all over this and working to get it repealed, -- before it takes effect. But, I am very pleased we aren't the only ones who know about this ploy to steal billions from unsuspecting homeowners. How many realtors do you think will vote Democratic in 2012? Did you know that if you sell your house after 2012 you will pay a 3.8%sales tax on it? That's $3,800 on a $100,000 home, etc. When did this happen? It's in the health care bill, -- and it goes into effect in 2013. Why 2013? Could it be so that it doesn't come to light until after the 2012 elections? So, this is 'change you can believe in? Under the new health care bill all real estate transactions will be subject to a 3.8% sales tax. If you sell a $400,000 home, there will be a $15,200 tax. This bill is set to screw the retiring generation -- who often downsize their homes. Does this make your November, 2012 vote more important? Oh, you weren't aware that this was in the Obama Care bill? Guess what;you aren't alone! There are more than a few members of Congress that weren't aware of it either. You can check this out for yourself at: http://www.gop.gov/blog/10/04/08/obamacare-flatlines-obamacare-taxes-home
  23. for the RR buffs, this was in the St. Francois County Daily Jounal today (Farmington, Park Hills, Bonne Terre, etc). It is titled Remembering the Worst Train Wreck in Missouri. http://dailyjournalonline.com/news/local/remembering-missouri-s-worst-train-wreck/article_2b82d998-d860-11e1-8ece-001a4bcf887a.html
  24. Arcadia Valley had 1 inch Thursday evening, 0.2 inches Friday evening, and 0.3 inches this morning. As of 4 pm, the ground is dry again and it is hot, but the rain is helping. My daughter and son in law came down this weekend from St. Louis to fart around at K Bridge with us. My son in law asked if we had a sprinkling system in the yard. He couldn't believe how green it is. I had a friend from Farmington say the same thing a couple of weeks ago. We have been very blessed with at least some periodic, and very localized rains. I am just wondering, we are at the northwestern edge of the Valley. I wonder if the Valley has some influence in thunderstorm development?
  25. common sense is sure leaving us pretty darn fast.
