  1. Thieves get caught red-handed by the wrong person they could end up sleeping with the fishes. Not that I would suggest that is the correct response......just saying.
  2. Don't know if this would be better or worse regarding deep hooking fish, but I recall that at one time there was a (weedless) version of the Jitterbug that had only a double hook at 45° spread, facing upwards out the back, (think rubber frog type hook). Anyone remember those? Maybe that wouldn't require hazardous duty pay when unhooking whites.
  3. Awesome pictures, by the way. You all did vgood.
  4. Dang it! Now have to dig through my many old tackle boxes for Jitterbugs. Wait, here's a red head, jointed one. Needs hooks. How 'bout this Heddon Crazy Crawler? There's a memory! And here's my old favorite, the Heddon Optic!!! Sorry, got carried away. Be at lake very soon. Hope they keep a'rollin'.
  5. TrophyFishR, 20 Bags? I am very interested. Thanks,
  6. I'll get off of this pursuit now but, fyi, response I received from Yamamoto was minimum order for remake of discontinued colors is 350 bags. Let's see if I can figure that one out @ 20/bag, somewhere around 7,000 grubs. Best get a new favorite. Heck, even one of my fishing buddies name on his email is "silvergrub". Later
  7. QB, Thanks, I will contact them again about that color also. I know others who want that bait. Will let them know to contact Yamamoto. Maybe get some results?
  8. Quillback, it's interesting that you mention Yamamoto web site/company. Earlier this year I found out in contacting GYCB that they have discontinued some colors, one of which was one of their most outstanding grub colors. Haven't gone out of my way to spread the word, but it now being discontinued, I would like to bring more attention to it thinking it could spur more interest in bringing it back. The bait is the Yamamoto Super Grub 5" in color Clear with Large Silver Flake, Yamamoto code 18-20-136. It is just flat-out SILVER. If there is a better imitator of threadfin for use when bass are aggressively feeding on them, I don't know what it is. I'm sure many of you have seen or used this color. My friends, family and I have used it extensively over a many year period. Can't count how many times we've landed a bass spitting up shad, and when grub and shad lay side-by-side, have been amazed at how that color simulates the bait fish look, and apparently the fish agreed. My friends and I have scoured bait shops and web sites and rounded up most of the 5" we could find. Still some 4" around I think. In conversations brother had with Mark at Table Rock B&T, if there was a big enough demand, a special order could be made up by GYCB. Don't remember how many but quite a few bags of grubs though, as I recall. Hoping Mark is holding our with some in his personal stash. I know there are similar colors with L.Silver Flake and Salt/Pepper that I may have to go with in the future. Luckily I have a fair inventory of 18-20-136. Really want to try that Smoke with Copper, sounds "HOT". Yamamoto 4"ers are good baits but the very narrow connector of tail to body causes too many tail "bite-offs". Short tail life is only reason I avoid the 4". Long-winded...Yes. Good fishing all. Be back at the lake few days from now!
  9. In my humble opinion, 5" best in most situations, 4" for super finesse ones (flat water, bluebird skies or closer "match the hatch"), and different manufactures 4 or 5" baits are not the same, for instance Kalins are somewhat bulkier body. Use what you have confidence in and Good Luck.
  10. Not much better than spending time in the outdoors fishing with your kids. Just being in that different environment allows for another level of communication. Sounds like a memorable day for the two of you. Thanks for the report.
  11. That last pic is one fine, smooth skinned bass Unusual fin layout & distribution though for a bass.
  12. Have some old, old (tipoff about my age?) jointed floating Rapalas that do a great job as finesse wake baits. Similar to jointed Redfin but with a softer, slower action. Real fish catchers especially post spawn.
  13. A group of friends fished a few days out of Aunts Creek last week. Ranged from Campbell Pt. to a ways up the James, to down by Joe Bald area & a bit around Kimberling. Lots of shallow beds with males. Some spots, some LM. Could see many deeper in clearer water. Friday overall best bite with rain, very good wind, cold temps and clouds was spinner bait with best LM at 6-1/4 caught by buddy Jim. That was a spinnerbait fish from deeper boat dock. Overall numbers were fair. Some grub and shakey head bite. Some deep crank bite, middle of pockets, mostly kentuckies. Saturday numbers were way up. A-rig, jerkbait, Redfin, grub, shakey & mojo rig fish doctor. As wind was down, spinnerbait bite was absent. Nice, warmer (finally), cloudy, light wind conditions. Saw quite a few fish chasing shad up the James pretty deep in creeks. A mix of LM, SM, spots, whites & crappie on the baitfish. Some folks had a few, some a lot. Very good grub bite for SM on pea gravel. Some very nice SM were caught. Best two LM for our group Saturday were both 4-3/4. One on A-rig and one on Redfin. Interesting to see so many good size LM in the middle of the lake chasing this time of year. Back in a few weeks. Can't wait. Good luck out there.
  14. Thanks for that post. Pretty much is my feeling about the issue. If you are not doing harm to a private dock, don't believe there is any law that prohibits you from catching fish lurking nearby. But please remember that any of our actions as a fisherman impacts the perception that others (including dock owners) have towards all of us fishermen. Treat all with respect (as much as possible). Respect their property that we fish near and around. Obviously, if dock owners are fishing from their docks, give them a wide berth. That dock owner will be very busy once the summer crowds arrive and a different boat is fishing her dock every hour or so.
  15. I have heard from reliable sources that there are only a handful of keepers in the Indians. Don't waste your time there. "Nothing to see here. Move along."
  16. That is one beautiful, giant bass, Bill. Thanks for the pic. I want one!
  17. Sorry I missed that, but EXACTLY where was that giant released? Coordinates would work just fine.
  18. Those Helicopter lures on an A-rig could be the ticket. Would some of them need to be counter-rotation?
  19. Abkeenan, interesting point regarding Table Rock lake records for all species, if available. Anyone?
  20. And to think you comprehension of the written word is better than your fishing prowess, you best just drag some nightcrawlers around the dock for google-eyes. Really, good luck Tom. Let me know how it goes. Wear out the jig, stickbait, wigglewart & grub. Spinnerbait by cedars/pole timber when wind gets up. You know we are there in a week or two and value your fishing report.
  21. Whoa! And here I am sitting in the office. Hurts.
  22. My thoughts on grub bite at Table Rock. Have fished darter and round heads from 3/16 to 5/16 depending on what I'm actually doing, mostly 1/4 oz. In extremely clear water conditions, I have much confidence in minnow shaped heads with realistic eyes. Often I will have 2 different colors tied on and ready to go, smoke/lg.pepper and clear with large silver flakes, all 5" Yamamoto. When fish are very aggressive, chasing shad or the wind is up pretty good, I go with silver. Can be a very hot bite. When bite is slower, more difficult or there is flat water, I go with smoke/pepper. Different approaches to fishing these are scrubbing, vertical jigging, casting to chasing fish or, one of my favorites, doing the old "crappie swing" along side and through, cedars and pole timber. That is casting beyond the target tree and just letting the bait swing back with slow winding of reel handle. Sensitive rod is the key here as bite may be just a tap or a bit extra weight on your line. You can load up on fish at times with this technique. Good luck. This is an excellent year-round bait if ever there was one and one that a novice can catch them on. When I take the family out, this is often what they are casting. White bass, walleye, goggle-eye, crappie, catfish, SM, LM & spots all love 'em. Caught some giant stripers on these same grubs over at Norfork.
  23. Sorry, would like to make it but will be on LOZ that day. Have a good time all.
  24. Still openings for "boaters"? What's the max, 200? Where is best place to check? Phone number?
