  1. As dry as it has been here, I am surprised! Great job.

    What's Cooking?

I guess a half a plate of mashed potatoes, corn and gravy should be considered restraint. Good job sir.
  3. And Bass Pro is still staying private!

    What's Cooking?

The most overwhelmed I ever was involved three huge trash bags of oyster shelf collected in a wet November in the Missouri River bottoms near Labadie. A massive grove of dead four inch to six inch sycamores. It was incredible. Of all the mushrooms I have ever had, oyster shelf is my bar none favorite.

Also there's no where near enough fried chicken for two adults.

Sulfur shelf are found most often growing on the base of a big mature white oak. When you find one that's on the small side, let it be for a few days they will continue to grow. They're great mushrooms but can be a real PITA to clean up. They'll have whatever was around them when they started growing in them when you pick them. Grass, bark, pieces of rock, small children, you name it. I pull them into pieces about the size of your little finger, batter (Don's Chuckwagon with an egg added) and deep fry. Make a batch of cocktail sauce with plenty of horseradish for dipping. We call them Shrimp of the Woods. A real treat.

    What's Cooking?

I made a huge batch of posole. 6 cans of hominy, one can of white whole kernel corn. 3 pounds or so of pork sliced and semi grilled, then cubed, 6 anchos roasted on the egg, peeled, seeded and chopped, two huge vidalias, coarse chopped, twelve cloves of garlic pressed, five cans of chopped green chiles, about half a cup chopped cilantro, and about four cups of water - maybe a little more to make it actually soupy - then stewed all afternoon. Served with sour cream, fresh chopped cilantro and hot baguette. Not bad. No pictures. Leftovers for football watching this afternoon.
  9. And man did the fishing suck last year! If Bull Shoals is turning over again at the same time, we need to reschedule. Never seen White River look like that and I don't want to ever again.
  10. DNR director is a political appointment. Sara was gone there on November 9. MDC director is not a political job (well, at least technically). She'll be fine at MDC if you ask me. I've known her professionally for a long time. The big challenge she faces at MDC is getting the 1/8 cent conservation sales tax continued. I wish her every success at that and all the other things a director gets the pleasure of dealing with on a daily basis. The best thing MDC got was a seasoned professional. Win win again, IMHO.
  11. I'm wondering if this Champ 188 for president is really a good idea. I think there's something fishy about the whole thing.
  12. A boat in every garage and a fish on every line. Make America smell fishy again!
  13. I think you should run for President.
  14. Hey congratulations!
  15. I got to do Christmas with FAMILY. New Year's, AKA Amateur Night would be perfect. Or the next weekend after. Or whenever. Or later in December. Punta Cana and Christmas weekends are the only ones that are out for me.

And pickles. Egg sandwich has to have bread and butter pickles and a good dose of spicy mustard!

    What's Cooking?

My buddy drove me to my last one. I was still pretty woozy when we made it to Golden Corral. He tells me I was eating a drumstick while loading my plate.
  18. 12/3 is good for me. The next weekend we will be in Punta Cana having rum drinks with little umbrellas in them.
  19. You're going to be another one of those miracles of modern medicine. Do the work and you will be fine. This is coming from a guy with two new knees and a rebuilt shoulder to go along with. Best wishes for full and speedy recovery.
  20. I witnessed a deal like that several years back on Truman Lake. Later saw that same truck with a sticker in the back window that read "I survived Truman Lake". Poor guy was in the boat watching his truck and trailer roll down the ramp. I mostly remember hearing over and over "Get Somebody! Get Somebody!" By then it was way too late. So it happens. The other big boat ramp boo boo I witnessed was a couple of Asian guys launching for obviously the first time and not unhooking the boat from the trailer, either front or rear. The misfortunes of others are always hilarious. Glad no one was hurt.
  21. Same here. Beagle came running up with a 1/2 oz jig with the pork frog that got her in trouble still attached hanging from her upper lip. She hardly flinched when I yanked it out.
  22. Try it and see. Just be careful and you'll be fine.

Turns out I've had them before in Omaha at The Runza Hut. Liked them. Can see doing it on a bun and making it easier.
