  1. I'd like to learn more about that river and would love to make that weekend if possible. I need to check with the war department first though. Do you allow old farts? If I am able to come, I'll be soloing in my canoe but could help with shuttle if needed, I drag a flatbed and there'll be extra room on it. Also no bed space needed, I'll sleep in the bed of my truck.
  2. It has been a shame on the Christian County Commission the way they handled that whole situation. Glad to hear some sense is finally going to prevail. All we needed was some new people in the courthouse and I am very glad they are there. Next I would like to see something done with the old Riverside Inn property other than letting it grow up and having no parking signs posted all around it. What a waste.
  3. Agree. The resource could be better managed instead of being all freaky about it. Keep the same limits on the fish but let a fellow do with the eggs what you will rather than just throw the $$$ away.
  4. I went to the bar, listened to a little music and had a reuben. Does that count?
  5. They just keep getting better Chief. Those guys look like they were having good fun. Thanks for making my day better.
  6. How cool is that.
  7. Don't get that one, the extra crossmembers are going to be in the way and aren't needed. Look at Gavin's set up, it's much better.
  8. Invigorating.
  9. One more comment - have your oufitter provide you with a plastic boat not aluminum. You'll be a lot quieter and won't stick on the rocks.
  10. You may not need one but you might enjoy one. I know I do sometimes. I'm a troglodyte and only fish Ambassadeurs. 4500C on a 6' medium weight medium fast action is my river favorite. I spool it up with 8lb green Maxima. Like I said, troglodyte. I especially like the baitcaster for fishing spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. Why not give one a try and find out for yourself?
  11. Take some dry clothes with you in something that will keep them dry, just in case. What part of the Niangua? Definitely crawdad crankbaits. Also a jig under a float. In line spinnerbaits (Mepps, Roostertail, Blue Fox, etc.) will work too. I always fish a tube too, but like others have said, that's often best done standing still. Have fun. There's a group of us going out together in May, the Niangua is on the short list. The one we go to depends on if the rain we've been getting lately keeps up. If you're fishing below Bennett Spring, you can also fish for trout but I assume you know all about that.
  12. Use the medium. Nice fish.
  13. Get out of the bar and get to posting chief!
  14. It was off the deep side, we were crossing from the east to the west. Tire was in about three feet of water with the frame sitting on the slab. I still don't know how we actually got out of that spot other than being incredibly lucky.
  15. Taberville brings back fond memories of a time when I was young and curious instead of old and confused. It would have been quite something indeed to have a prairie chicken dance on your head.
  16. Arkansas does not do a very good job regulating human wastewater either. Ask Oklahoma.
  17. Not usually.
  18. Taneycomo is too cold to wade wet even in August. Waders or fish off one of the docks are your options without a boat.
  19. I cross Green Bridge twice a day (once when it's light enough to see it). It was about two feet high and moderately colored yesterday afternoon. You should be fine. I'll tell a story on myself and the Finley. Sunday morning the wife and I like to go for a ride. We were out by Fordland and went down Olga Road. The river was coming up and was a little colored. There was maybe a foot of water over the low water slab. I could see the slab (kind of) and over Lovey's strong objections, started to cross. Made it about ten feet before I dropped the left front off the slab. Not a good feeling. I knew it was going to be walk back to the nearest place and see if someone would pull me out. Lovey being the smart lady that she is said let's at least try to rock it and see if we can back out. I got out into waist deep nice cool Finley and did my best to lift bumper and shove backwards. I apparently had superhuman strength at the moment because that Cherokee came right back up on the slab and out of the river. Talk about a cheap lesson.
  20. Everything has to be somewhere and this operation is no exception. But just because it has to be somewhere, in my considered opinion it doesn't have to be in the Buffalo watershed. There was a similar set to not long ago about a CAFO going in close to Roaring River. Pretty sure it went in and hasn't had problems yet. But that still doesn't make it smart to put a CAFO in a place where if there is a problem it's sure to be a biggie. From what I've read though, this is going to be a tough one to stop from happening, regulations not being written considering this sort of issue and so on.
  21. If you're not wading another option close to where you're staying is the Fall Creek Boat Dock. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Fall-Creek-Marina-Trout-Dock/163921233635219
  22. Too windy today was what it was.
  23. Awesome Chief.
  24. I drove over the river today at Galena. Beautiful to see some nice water in it. Really looking forward to getting the bottom of the boat wet on Saturday.
  25. James on Saturday. Saturday being 3/9/13. Probably put in at Shelvin.
