  1. The stencil pictured is made from blank plastic stencils you can buy from hobby lobby.
  2. Seems like I figured a little something out. The stencil needs a bit more sanding but I think it looks kinda close. The second pic shows the stencils I made earlier.
  3. Thanks for the kind words. Very nice parrot style color scheme. I don't know why I didn't think of using a wiggle wart molded stencil and drilling out two different sized circles, for two sets of stencils. Thanks for the fast reply. Just the thought I needed to get those creative thoughts flowing again. These rain days off work have got me going stir crazy, might as well paint something. I'll post some pics of what I come up with.
  4. Here is the eye I'm painting now
  5. Do any of you gentleman have tips for painting stock wiggle wart eyes? I've been painting them with the old bagley/rapala look. I figure some sort of stencil needs to be used. I'm just not sure how to go about it yet.
  6. What stretch of river were you floating?
  7. Spotted bass are treated like trash when it takes one several years to reach keeper status. What you left with is a ton of short fish. Year after year they keep pilling up.
  8. They are going to make the spots a 12 inch limit soon. He said that these spots take like 5 years to reach 15 inches. This help the largemouth size some also.
  9. The slot won't happen. I talked to the biologist at stockton this spring. He said that if there is such a thing as a lake having a "hay" day. Then this is it for big bass at stockton. I totally believe him.
  10. I actually have had zero problems with devcon and suspending jerkbaits. I use a really thin coat , guess that could be the reason.
  11. Yeah I still have that problem with the devcon . I mix small batches in disposable shot glasses. Usually do three lures at a time. And waste another lures worth of epoxy. I do have some bar top epoxy I'm going to try . I was always afraid it would turn milky with all the water time a lure sees
  12. The heat does nothing to the dry time . When you heat it the epoxy just becomes more workable turns from a syrup consistency to more of a canola oil consistency. It will go right back to syrup when it cools down.
  13. Had to show off a few of mine too
  14. Here are of few of my best pointers. Always , always screen your paint. You can buy a paint filter at harbor frieght for really cheap. I remove the mesh screen from the cone filter and thread it into the cap of a small paint bottle bought from hobby lobby. This will help you stay consistent with your spray. Second, I would buy an inline moisture trap. For the first coupe of years my paint was running and cratering really bad. This fixed that problem almost entirely. Cleanliness is so so important. Take time after and sometimes in the middle of your paint to clean your brush. Learning how to disassemble and reassemble your brush is imperative. This thread is so awesome I even learned a lot by reading this. Thank you to everyone for sharing, what is at times, really hard information to find. As for the clear coat I am using the same as everyone else the Devcon 30 min 2 ton. One of the things that has helped me get that glass finish is a heat gun to heat up the epoxy before brushing it on. It really thins it down and makes is so nice to work with. This will help you not have the problem of the epoxy building up in hook eyes. Also when you've put your lures in your drying wheel hit them with a few bursts of heat from the heat gun, this will bring any air bubbles to the top and they will naturally pop. You're left with a crystal clear top coat.
  15. I talked to The creel survey guys a couple of weeks ago. One of the fellows in their boat was the biologist for stockton. He explained about the spots growing so slow. I told him we were all for 12" limit on spotted bass. He also mentioned Stockton is as good as it has ever been for big bass. Said the number of big fish from 08 is just astonishing.
  16. I was at grand last week for the BFL it froze in wolf creek every morning, it could be just as bad.
  17. The baits with this hidden weight just make a smaller profile lure. A 1/2 oz lure that is the same size and has the same blade size as a 1/4 oz bait . With these small blades and overall smaller size there are a few things that benifit me. One being the way this lure casts in the wind. The other is how fast you can "burn" the lure with much less resistance. Third is just the profile and size. Honestly the war eagle screaming eagle are my fav spinner baits for early summer. I get ya with these marketing ploys. My personal favorite one that is catching fisherman are the live target bait ball series lures.
  18. Uni to uni knot works fine. You can roll the knot in super glue to taper it. That will help it go through the guides but is not necessary.
  19. Jason kappermann with Shred Life hand pours a bunch of different plastics. He is out of Nixa
  20. I think doing too much puts you at a disadvantage. In tournament fishing there is no prize for catching the most fish . Now days I usually have 5 different baits on the deck. And I stuck to the same ones through the season. I figure if you can get really good a a few techniques you will out fish the guy who has 100 to choose from. But the key here really is confidence. That's why fishjng and tournament fishing are so special. I swear in a tournament it's 90 percent mental. Look at skeet Reese yesterday. He was pressing hard. Only staying in one location for about 5 casts. Usually if I'm in contention to win I have to calm myself down . I will actually talk to my self saying " you need one bite you have 3 hrs , don't press !!! Your going to get the bite make it count !!
  21. I would say closer to 0%
  22. It was great . I weighed a 14 inch Kentucky today just to see what it was. 2.05. Man they are fat right now! I'm going back down on Tuesday. Maybe I'll probe the depths.
  23. Not every fish in the lake is that deep. Had 8 keeps today in shallow on the jerkbait
  24. We shot this video in September at Lake Of The Ozarks. You can do some really special things with them. Ended up having a good day on a swim jig. The only issue I have with the hero2 is the battery life. It will last about 3 hours for me. Hopefully they have addressed this on the Hero3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1dHY_mjp-M
  25. Was at stockton last weekend. Good bite. Threw jerkbaits and caught a lot bass. Also had three nice walleye. That bite is only going to get better
