  1. I've still got a couple of 5000's and a couple of 6500's. I think I still have a silver 5500 also. One of my 5000's is a B which has a full spool capacity and a clicker. I got all my 5000's in the 60's, but never had a "C' for some reason. It was common back then to put ball bearings in them, but I don't think that really made them a "C" when it came to casting. For people lime me that had grown up with Langley's, Bronson's, Pflueger's and Shakespeare reels the anti reverse and drag was a real learning curve. Some things are hard to let go of and I still have 2 Shakespeare Presidents, white blade with the Howald wrap. Ones a fly rod and the other is a spin cast rod.
  2. The trend toward GMF's is a good reason to grow as much food as you can. They're slipping one by us with this by only addressing the modification and not the way it's used in the fields. I remember the peanuts in Coke, never understood it, but i remember it.
  3. That's true and I'm not sure I would want to be around the islands on a holiday. If the lake stays a couple of feet low it will make some areas more inviting.
  4. My maternal grandparents were off the farm and they always had a big garden. After they got older they quit canning, but they would fill a big chest freezer full by September. It didn't help that grandma thought she had to feed any of 16 grand kids that dropped by. I don't know if it helped, but it didn't hurt because they both lived to be 91.
  5. Bass Pro's Metropolitan reel service will likely have it.
  6. Top water fishing a good pond can't be beat.
  7. I haven't seen it in a couple of years, but there used to be a nice pea gravel beach on the south side of Brush creek. It was the first cove. Brush Creek is across from the Long Creek Marine. There is also some shallows around Old 86 campground.
  8. I'll second that. For a pond that size 2 people in individual float tubes is plenty.

    2014 Garden

A 410 has about the same velocity as a 12 ga., some have higher velocity. They have less shot, but it doesn't take much lead to make anything sick.
  10. I don't know drew, he was obviously a wacko, but he was no spring chicken and didn't have a record. So why did he need any gun, M4 or otherwise. he obviously didn't need more firepower did he? The common denominator in virtually every murder is either greed or mental and the massacres are all mental. So what's the use of stiffening gun control if they can't identify real threats? JD slipped and said state, which I could argue if you can't have a gun in any part of a state then it qualifies as the same difference. You and Chief just jump because you don't like his politics, but I suspect you two would squeal pretty loud if you were told you couldn't own a gun. Should I be afraid if you own a semi automatic?
  11. J D said he couldn't own HIS AR in New York city. he could if it were chopped up, but it wouldn't be the one he owns now. You can't own a handgun in NYC and that's in New York state. So clearly if you live there, it isn't just automatics that you can't have. And Drew, don't put a M4 in a nut like Crockers hands to try and make a point. He had a pistol, no AR, no AK, no RPG, just a 9mill.
  12. Luke there is a road bed on the East side running from the concrete diversion wall to the break in the trees. There are also peninsulas running off of it and there is a gravel bar about 25 yards off of it.
  13. Then it would be illegal, I.E. against the law. It's not always been effective relying on laws to dictate what law abiding citizens can and cannot do. When the last time you heard of an assault in this country using a full automatic weapon? I was under the impression that Crocker had a handgun? Either way he could have just as easily used a shotgun.
  14. the problem with lead ammo isn't about waterfowl, that's a federal restriction and it was easy to find substitutes. The same doesn't apply to big game loads in rifles. As far as automatics go they can't regulate them anymore than they already have. It's the restrictions on guns that look like automatics that are ridicules.
  15. Oh I'm not questioning the worth of sampling for all things, but I don't see how they could arrive at any usable information concerning methods. I would think there would be too much room for error. In a river i would think the delay between creel sampling and electrofishing would be enough to skew the results.
  16. bfishn I'm not sure that electrofishing can show much when it comes to stream smallmouth and the lakes are to deep. We know that smallie in a stream travel depending on water temps and O2. In order for it to be accurate in accessing how fishing were being taken they would have to have a stable population in the sample zone. I can't see them achieving that.
  17. Not a handgun that you can keep close to the bed and still keep it locked away from the kids.
  18. Never killed one, never intentionally will. I don't see a lot of value in records anymore. I'll be the first to admit I've evolved and this wasn't always my thinking. I had a LM from Toledo Bend mounted and it didn't take me long to decide it was a waste and i would never do it again. If I caught a truly big fish I might take measurements and have a replica done, but i would never risk one dying to get it weighed. It just wouldn't be worth it to me personally.
  19. I wouldn't rule out too much water if you have had 8" of rain. Too much water can make plants yellow also. I would wait until things go back to normal and see what the new growth looks like first. As far as tomatoes go they won't grow much until the nights warm up. They don't like the cold. Okra is another one that loves the heat. I'm doing the square foot thing this year, but I haven't been in a hurry. Over the decades I've never really seen a gain in pushing the planting. They grow when the conditions are right, not matter what. That's interesting about the bees. I think I knew that they could hatch queens, but just forgot. What are you going to do with all that honey?

  21. Yeah nobody likes statistics, but the number of homicides and the number of deaths due to drunken drivers is always close. In spite of this you can still fill your tank and buy a pint in the same store. Anti gun people like to throw in suicides and ignore that fact that most homicides are commited by one age group in one ethnic group. They also don't want the fact that, in spite of gangs and the contribution by Chicago, gun deaths are down about 50% since '93. I'll bet when the anti gun lobby has a big party looking for loot they serve alcohol.
  22. So who would put the coats on the tarpon every fall? I think they put Northern's in Stockton also and it didn't work. I haven't fished Beaver since the 60's, but if I remember right it has some musky friendly water. Given the fact they are reportedly big perch eaters they should bother the food sources to much.
  23. You here of one every once in awhile in the winter or spring. Pretty rare though, nice catch.

He might be learning. I just read some quotes where he talked about his childhood in a small town and how sports took him to college, to a degree and on to the NFL. No mention of anything else.
  25. I see you you covered your azz CWF and didn't mention Branson.
