  1. It all comes down to the morality of the coach. Look at OK and MO, both of which suspended inportant players for one or two violations.
  2. You would do better hitting the NFOW and Bryant, IMO.
  3. They problem, IMO, is still the human intervention. There is no way that anyone actively involved in football has the time to adequately evaluate every eligable team. The computer can look at strength of schedule for all the teams in seconds. To be really accurate the computer should probably do the picking and allow one game to be thrown out as long as it's in the first half of the season. You would then likely get a team that was truly a champion at the time of play. This new format has been a joke. They keep knocking FSU back because of close games while ignoring close games by other teams.
  4. I think that's a sticky situation. Do you automatically allow conference champons in and what conferences would qualify? I don't have the answer, but they are assuming that a 2 loss Alabama team would be better than Mizzou. Of course that's where I think it really gets sticky. Is the west really that much better than the east or the Big 12 for that matter? When they don't meet up during the season it is all assumptions. Alabama only bested West Virginia by 10 and WV is a 5 loss team, Arkansas by one, a 6 loss team, so where's the number one ranking?
  5. Your ESPN chart doesn't say much Quillback. It doesn't take into account strength of schedule for one thing and there are 2 QB's in the top 10 who are 5 and 7. The real stats from Sunday point to poor blocking up front as the main reason for the fiasco. As far as long passes go, you have to have backs that can get seperation downfield, you have to have time for it to develop, and you have to have the play called. You don't get long pass threats from the free agents. Bowe is only a short yardage threat and Kelsic has cut into his opportunities big time. KC's big weapon is Charles, but when they, the opposition, can stop him there is not going to be a serious passing game no matter who's at QB. While you want to put it on Smith you might note that he had a higher rating then Manning ffor the game and Manning was only sacked once.
  6. I agree and LSU or TAMU would probably make better sense, but these games are normally based on short distance rather than relevance. I think the idea is to allow a more equal balance of fans. In state teams work out well, but in light of that a border works also.
  7. Well first off averges don't take into account number of games. The bottom line is Smith's numbers aren't that bad overall. And I don't care how many QB's you've seen you haven't seen any perform all that well enduring 6 SACKS!!!! Most High school QB's don't have put up with that. So the bottom line is Smith didn't look all that bad compared to Manning and when you have overcome a lousy 35 yards rushing and 6 sacks critisizing him for the loss is riduiculas.
  8. "However, the next time someone is trashing Alex Smith and tells you that he has a “noodle arm”, only checks down, and always plays it safe you can tell them “Actually, last season the average Alex Smith completion was in the air longer than the average Aaron Rodgers completion and Smith was in the top ten for completion percentage for passes thrown 20 yards or further.” That should shut them up for a little while." It also helps if you have receivers who can run 21 yards on the same day the play is called.
  9. I was by there Saturday and nothing was stirring. I wonder if the new owners has plans for a change, or if he's going to keep the status qua? That ground isn't the best even by west Laclede county standards, so I can't see where he can do much more with it.
  10. I have to disagree with that. It's hard to pass or run when you're surrounded by the other teams defense. No matter how fast the release is on short passes, it takes time for a back to get downfield. The sacks tell a story and so does the number of times Charles was stopped short. FYI Smith had better stats than Manning.
  11. it's easy to blame a player, but hard to make it stick to the coach. They play with what they have.
  12. They already play each other during the season. How would you have a championship game? The only two that might make sense would be Baylor and TCU because their game was so close, but I'm opposed to teams having a rematch, or even the chance at one. I still believe that 'Bama hasn't looked all that good when compared to some other teams. They are guilty of many of the same problems that some of the other teams are criticized for. I can guarantee that when the dust settles at the end the new format will suck worse than the old one. They should have gone with the computers strength of schedule format. It wasn't perfect, but it did eliminate the imperfection of created by believing that humans have the time and resources to evaluate every team that might qualify. The biggest joke when it came to polls was the coaches poll, now we have the next best thing, athletic directors.
  13. Brittsnbirds things sure change, and not for the better. I can remember when northern Cass county schools were squeaky clean. Of course the county wasn't all that populated then and Harrisonville was the metropolis. Yeah Ness, I can remember when there was one high school in JOCO and 103rd was lined with farms. Lenexa had about 2 or 3 blocks that were paved and one city marshall.
  14. Yeah the borders around there are strange. We lived 3 miles east of the park and the stepdaughter went to Buffalo. I'm not sure where the line is, but we were about 13 miles from Lebanon and 25 from Buffalo.
  15. Yeah the offensive line forgot what day it was.
  16. Once again I have to ask how AL maintains their protected status? They just gave up more more points to Auburn then any other SEC team? They don't show as much clout as several teams under them. This to me is what makes this commitee very suspect, it appears they are just looking at records and nothing else and then relying on history.
  17. I don't know that AR won the first half, they never got enough seperation to carry through to a win. It was a good win for Mizzou. AR was coming off two strong wins because of their defense, but they couldn't handle Missou in the 4 quarter. Before anyone gets too worried about AL they should look at their record. Those that say TCU and Baylor play weak non conference scheules hasn't see Alabama's apparently. I'm not sure why they are ranked where they are, but I suspect that the commitee is too busy doing their jobs to do any research. If Mizzou plays AL, I wouldn't put too much money on the Tide.
  18. Rilary? Yes I think it's the obvious choice. Neither state has another contender, the KU/MU is history, and maybe thats best, so going south to another border is made to order.. I think AU has become the unpredictable and that throws the predictions into muddy water It should be a great game, given the various accolades that will be on the line.
  19. Well Buffalo has the best high school in Dallas county.
  20. The commute might get old.
  21. There are quite a few trailers still in the park. I suspect the panic about moving and those in the news were renters and the trailers were also being seized. I don't know how many units the campground can hold, but the going rate around there is about $1K a year. This is with water and sewer only so the margin is pretty good.
  22. You'll have to put the boat on your stepsons personal tax or go in and set up yiur own. You have to have a tax receipt or something from the tax office saying it has been declared.
  23. It's virtualy impossible to rank teams late in the season ignoring their record. There's no doubt that the best teams might not play in the final because they started slow, but nothing is perfect. I just have a problem with believeing that commitee members have the time and patience to do a good job of ranking. The coaches poll is in the same boat. How can anyone believe that a coach, say on the west coast has the time or desire to look at SEC or Big 12 teams? I think the while the conference champions might not produce the best team at the end of the season, they will certainly be the most consistant.
  24. If they aren't impressed by 2 back to back shut outs of respectable teams, they should be. I'm just saying Mizzou had better look at this as a "big" game.
  25. Trying to compare conferences is no better than just picking a national champion abritarily. Teams evolve during the season and trying to second guess is futile. A conference may appear weak, but there isn't enough cross conference games to ever be sure about all of them. To leave no doubt, play it out.
