  1. I caught my first trout out of RR on a similar streamer, it was red, orange, yellow. I do remember that 'bou streamers were popular. I also brought some deadly royal coachman for my first trip, but apparently those hillbilly trout didn't know they were deadly.
  2. Don't mind if I do. Jet boats=NO! I will concede however that if they only run downstream so that the waves follow the normal flow of the river they should be allowed. Horses? Apparently their are many on here that know much about horses other then that they, like all animals crap in the woods, or the water if it's handy. I don't understand why that would be a big problem? It's kind of roulette if and when it gets to the water. Now if you stop and consider what happens to a soft river bank during a heavy rain after multiple 1200# critters with big hooves have ravaged the entry and exit and done the heavy work to create new gulleys entering the river carry mud, then it would be horses=NO. ATV's running across the river, why? I've only seen this once and I have to admit it did save the drivers from walking the 50 yards to the gravel bar on the other side. But, AYV's=NO I don't have a problem with roads, at least in moderation. I do think they should stop above the flood level, stop with boulders and serious fines for those too lazy to carry a canoe to the water and think that driving around is OK for them. Roads coming close opens the river to more people on foot or willing to haul a craft to the water. This means a lot more people around to hear the tree and support keeping the river a river and not a highway.
  3. Real outdoor finger food.
  4. That's all well and good brother, but it wouldn't be the first time that the loudest voices turn out to be less than desirable for the average outdoorsman. I'm simply saying that everyone should be sure that the proposal fits all of their desires before they embrace it completely. So my point is, using wilderness designation as an example, so few people are able to enjoy them that in a crisis they might not get the support they need.
  5. The biggest problem I've seen with going tandem is that front passenger is cramped. I never found them bad enough to pass, but I'm only 5'7". If it's decent you wouldn't have any problem getting your money back.
  6. Be aware that anything over 10' will not maneuver like the shorter one or like a solo canoe. The longer one will track better than either of them however.
  7. Nice! That had to be fun on the long rod.
  8. FYI rumrunner, that is the 64 Access, so if you read that, that is where they are. There's a ramp in the park at the mouth of the branch, but it isn't for peons to use, only to pay for.
  9. I just bleed them, it doesn't take minutes, but seconds for them to go and like warm blooded animals it probably improves the flesh. We had a lot of crappie last year and my son's old electric was slow, so he bought a new and improved one, we filleted most of them with a Rapala, a Case, and a diamond sharpener.
  10. I certainly agree with the vest, but in my experience of some knowledge with cold water dunking it shouldn't end there, Hypothermia can be deadly so a plan for getting out of the water quickly and having something to stop the loss of body heat is also important. Space blankets are cheap and can help, but waders and a wool shirt will also work. You don't need to wear the waders, just have them available.
  11. Funny. Between my house and Forsyth is a bout a mile of lakeside Taney. On a trip to Forsyth last year there were literally hundreds of pelicans near the road, some within 50 yards. I hurried home, got my camera, made mile trip back to where they started and they were all on the other side of the lake! Couldn't believe it.
  12. Yup I overlooked that.I was seeing no spot or threadfin.
  13. That's only true with a belt normally. Without the belt the current can catch the the top of the waders and take you under. A lot of people drowned in the old rubber waders that had a huge chest opening. Heavy boots and no belt were deadly. Jim Teeny's dad went that way. I always wore neoprene's after the water reached the 50's, hypothermia can kill also. It's not bad on a warm day and shallow water, but a cold ambient and too long in the water can put you down before you gain control. A pair of belted neoprene waders won't let more water in then your body can warm up.
  14. I believe poling is popular in parts of Maine, if I remember right. Where ever it was they paddle the lakes, called ponds, and then pole the connecting streams.
  15. I suspect you're right. It amazes me that people are surprised that these shows are scripted? My DIL sent me a site claiming that he had inside information that Duck Dynasty was not only scripted, but that they didn't always wear beards and that they lived in a big house! The site wanted donations to continue his expose of all these sites. What can I say?
  16. Thanks, that's what I thought, but I was having my doubts after all the comments. I would give the stringer corners a quick look and if you don't see a crack I would consider re plumbing it, It won't hurt and will be less thing to worry about in the future. 30+ years is long time for plastic or rubber hose.
  17. Nice. Vegetation, spring, in Missouri?
  18. No I was long gone. The urban world ended around 90th at that time. I had a friend who's parents lived on a farm about 102nd and Roe. I-35 was 50 hiway, but it was 4 lane, novel for the time and little used. Lenexa had about 2 blocks of paved road and an old town marshal that we harassed from time to time.
  19. You're right it's one of the carpsuckers, River or Highfin.
  20. Cold winter=dead shad. Threadfins are especially vulnerable.
  21. It's shorter, but with the new rip rap it's still tough. It's a more shallow bank at Shadow Rock.
  22. I was surprised to learn that net bags will help perpetuate morels. It seems the paper bags we used when I was young were counter productive. This makes me wonder if spending some time shaking the bag around the area before leaving might increase the harvest at proven sites?
  23. I disagree, at least on principle. The Commission has to have at least one member of each party and the terms do not follow the governors term. The executive control ends with the appointments available. At any rate I don't see the alarm at this time. The fact that it's an amendment will mean any opposition will be well advertised.
  24. Yes. It was just SM then. left there for the AF and never came back. I was born there, but never really lived there for any length of time. probably 12 years all together. It was the "big city" that my ancestors immigrated to from the NW counties and Cass co. I have lots of cousins in the area still.
  25. I always caught more fish on foot and generally chose to fish that way even on a float. I think at times it might be advantageous to approach a hole from downstream anyway.
