I don't think it's money as much as it is near sightedness by the Corp. They have this mentality that service can't be reduced in some districts. We, my extended family, go to a Corp part at Pomme every September. The park no longer picks up trash, it has to be carried to a dumpster and they quit cutting the grass. It's a terrible burden to haul our trash to the dumpster, but we prevail. I think they could find a way to keep parks open. If they give someone water, electricity and sewer in turn for being a watchmen, keeping litter picked up and doing some trimming the cost would be negligible.

If they had just thought about this 60 years ago the river probably could have produced a record. Oops, my mistake it already did without a MF. I don't where exactly the money interest is in this, but I guarantee any environmental interest is pretty weak after all these years.

One of the easiest things that can help with topwater hookups is to hesitate. I know too well that it is easier said then done, but it will help.

One way to get around some of that is to wear a back brace, the ones designed for lifting support, and an air cushion under. I have both and they make a big difference on a long float, even with the Phase 3. The air cushion I have is made for kayaks, but I don't have the brand at hand.

And that lowers my pleasure in watching college ball how? I want college ball to be college ball. The NCAA may do some questionable punishments, but they don't have a lot of options, so if this kids screws over A & M, drops out and waits for the draft, he's going to lose big time in more ways then one.

Anyone Use Redbeard's Ranch On The Niangua?
Wayne SW/MO replied to jdmidwest's topic in General Angling Discussion
The only problem I see on the Niangua is the sheer numbers of people. They take the river over on summer weekends, there is no fishing from the access down. There are some obnoxious ones around, but that can be said about a lot rivers. If Redbeard wants to hear some complaints I have one for him. If had kept his darn bulldozer out of the river when building his campground and left a natural barrier of vegetation the great hole in front of his property would likely still be there along with the hogs that inhabited it. Now it's just another shallow run for the most part. He's a first class hypocrite. I wonder if he's related to Jim Rogers? -
You could have gotten it there, but the little bastages can wander around for a long time finding just the right spot. If you can't get bit anywhere in southern MO or northern AR, you aren't trying hard enough. If you're in need of an invasion, come to my yard.

They say that the flood gates at Bagnell will be opened, if they aren't already. 50K is the prediction.and they are evacuating the Osage below. The bad thing about the Niangua is that so much gravel has been disturbed with all the campgrounds going in all the good holes are filling up. I'll hold any hope of improvement until I see it again. As far as the crap goes, it will wash a lot of it out of the trees. The pee just stems and flows with number of people on the river. I wouldn't swim in it below 64 on a Saturday afternoon if you paid me.

I don't see where bring up congress or the federal government is necessarily political. If they aren't doing their job then it's beyond party.

How These Fronts Affect Fish - Thoughts?
Wayne SW/MO replied to Tearin Up Topwater's topic in General Angling Discussion
The scientific answer, at least by many biologist, is that low pressure brings the smaller creatures higher in the water column which in turn makes the smaller predators more active which in turn makes the larger predators, well you get the picture. -
Just Got Back From The Park And River
Wayne SW/MO replied to oneshot's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
It was up over the high part of the access, bathrooms, etc. or just the lower parts? -
Skirts and their counter parts were popular at one time then faded away with explosion of lures. I often used a piece of flat pork rind on the front hook. The one with many slits in the end was the most effective. This was shown to me by someone and I used it up until the rind became unavailable. I like the plain white rubber, but I admit I've never done a real comparison. The right color lure with right color skirt can be a real producer at times, pea brain or not.

I'm not sure where y'all are getting him jumping? He has to be out of high school 3 years and he was a freshman last year. I don't know if he redshirted, but even then he'll sit out a year and hope the NFL will waste a draft on an unproven. I don't think so. Sure A&M will try to help him, to help themselves. Just for kicks and giggles name a player who played one season of college, sat out a year and then made it in the NFL?

This one is very similar to what I have, the principle is the same. This is the company that supplied my tarpon and the cart. http://www.paddleva.com/Accessories-Transport-Storage-Carts/APP01482-Xpress-Scupper-Cart-with-No-flat-tires

I don't think the trout will be effected. They love fast water and thay can handle the warm water. They won't be in the warmer water long enough to hurt them. They hatchery used to get warm water through it, probably still does when the creek rolls, and they handled it.

He won't be jumping anytime soon under the present rules.

I could list a lot of instances where the NCAA either overstepped or more often, punished the wrong people, but that doesn't mean they are always wrong either. I'm not sure why the 7 months is a problem? They would have caught H if they had jumped too quick also. Bottom line is this is a case where he challenged the rules because he thinks he was above it and they can put the punishment load on his shoulders. It's not his first questionable action that reflected on college ball, the Heisman and his team. He needs to grow up and maybe if they spank him hard he will.
-
I wasn't aware of that. I thought maybe the competitive side was down. Do they have any theories on the decline?

The USGS calls it a creek, not that it matters. Truth is beaver creek is as big, maybe bigger.

It all comes down to the springs and I would think they're getting their share of rejuvenation, or I hope anyway.

Anyone Use Redbeard's Ranch On The Niangua?
Wayne SW/MO replied to jdmidwest's topic in General Angling Discussion
I have to say that I've been on the river more than a few times and maybe this all needs to be put in perspective. The river is literally covered in rafts, canoes and yaks on Saturdays in the summer. Most are small parties of 1 to 3 canoes or the like. The ones that cause discomfort in others are almost always part of a big group, beating their chest for attention while hiding in numbers. I've had a lot more floats that were uneventful than I have with where some over aged juvenile delinquent made the trip less than enjoyable. -
I think they will have a hard time convincing a jury that a gravel bar is a castle, or that he or his property was in danger, and if he contends that the sheer number of people on the bar made him scared for his safety, then he should have stayed away and used 911. I can't see him getting away with anything unless the prosecutor thinks he should. As far as the right to arm, it's easy to give personal reasons for and against from theoretical view, but one can't speak for everyone. The fact I may not think I need protection may not account for some young mother alone in a house in in KC or STL. The Castle Law says you can defend your home without probable cause. It assumes a stranger coming in is at his own peril, but it doesn't say you have to do anything, just that you can.

It isn't reflected in the reservations. If you snooze you lose when it comes to securing a site. If the numbers are down I would say it's because of a lack of camping spots rather then people moving on to more expensive methods. I suspect that all the condos, etc are just adding to the mix where the more affluent are taking advantage of the resource. When you say stats, are you talking about organized fishing or just bass fishing in general? I always thought Coombs Ferry was a nice place. Lots of bank access, a swimming beach and the sites wern't too crowded, but it got axed. I still contend it's just the COE trying to make things more than needed to make it appear they are needed. There ain't likely going to be anymore dams built.

Given the fact it's been as dry as the Mojave on my ridge the last two years I get really excited about it. Big trees are expensive to bring down when the drought kills them. Bring on the rain and I'll keep emptying my gauge.

I'm always ready. As far as the money, BS, the rules are well known and have been around for a long time. The idea of college ball is to get a scholarship that allows a player to get a degree, period. The fact that a small number go on to make a career out of it shouldn't screw it up for all those that simply get their degree and move on. Thousands of players play by the rules and if "Johnny Football" is as smart as he thinks he is he knew going in he was on thin ice. I hope he gets spanked hard.
