I'm glad to hear they're putting some in BS. I suspected something might be up when they put a 20" length limit on a fish that didn't exist. I do take exception to the old worry about stripers hurting a bass fishery. If anything was going to hurt it from the temperate family it would be the white bass. I would like to see some research from other lakes that were hurt by the introduction? I don't think many blacks cruse the mid lake and feed on 12" shad.

that's what my wife told every agent we used, well not quite that but, " My husband----etc." I grew up in a town of 5K 2 blocks from a cattle farm and spent most of my time on the farms around and foxes were considered mousers. When I lived in the out back of Laclede county I never lost a chicken to any predators, but they were smart chickens, they knew to come in to the hen house before sundown. I did lose 2 guineas, lavender isn't a good color for them in great horned owl country, my mistake, not the owls.

There are some flaws in this Al. The amount of fuel would of course have some effect, but the cost doesn't seem to be exorbitant. We manage to send rockets up for many things that are probably not anymore important than clean energy. There seems to be a belief that everything shot into space stays in orbit, but it doesn't, spent fuel could be sent on a light years journey, it just has to be given the right direction coordinates. i don't know if any research has been done on sending it deep into the earth either. I confess I don;t know what the possibilities are, but we thought testing underground was harmless to the US at ground level? If it was set up to be safe at ground level, any leaks far below the surface should be safe and secure.

If I was fishing with kids the floater would get my vote. It's a lot easier for a kid to fish at the edge of an obvious light than trying to make the adjustment deeper down, at least I would think it would.

I don't see any value in licensing when it comes to paddle craft. I think there is a lot of value in limiting the number of craft either by permit or by limiting outfitters and how many canoes they can rent in any one day. Much of the activity that keeps families with children off the rivers is already illegal and much of it occurs because they hide in a crowd. Like CWF says, the difference between the 70's and 80's and today is stark. The number of canoes starting down the Niangua at around 10 AM on Saturday is crazy! On a trip a couple of years ago I was guarding the jon while waiting for the shuttle I counted 50 ralts stacked up. If you think about that, this is one outfitter, with a ton of canoes that also has that many rafts to put on the 8 mile stretch of river that most all of them use, I've heard the number 500 thrown around as a figure for the number of canoes on the river at one time. I don't if it's accurate, but it pops up a lot.

That would be a great idea, put it in containers that look like bombs and tell them they are now armed. The truth is solar would be cheap if it were not for the retrofitting required. Homes that were wired with separate circuits for lights could use it without much expense, but houses aren't wired that way. It still has potential if the money sent in other direction was properly applied.

Like Greasy said that's the upper, it flows uphill to the north. There are some fords and accesses within easy reach of I-44 and there is the Osage Fork that is easily reached and has some MDC accesses. Do you have Tryon's book?

Well put. I saw what I thought was a very small badger roadkill recently. I didn't go back and confirm it, but I got a good look at the markings. Never seen one here with that exception. I have to ask though, why would they kill all the fox?

Ideas are fine, but they aren't going anywhere with a DNR that is more interested in renting canoes then curtailing overuse of streams. The outfitters should have had limits put on them 30 years ago. If the DNR had done that the outfitters doing business then would still be in business, but there wouldn't be any new ones or any more canoes the what was deemed appropriate then.

Looks like fun CWF, kid time on a river is hard to top. My take on overexposing some rivers is as simple as me, you don't invite 200 people to a party with food and space for 50!

Yeah and it looks like BS is going to get another rise. At least the rest of the area, wet and dry, is a lot healthier than last year.

I suspect there is a lot to what Justin says. I noticed a couple went belly up the last trip my son and I had and we were dropping them from gunwale level of a bass boat, maybe a foot at the most. Then there are those that feel they should throw a small fish as far as they can.

Just curious, how many on here were Boy Scouts and what was your experience in regards to the outdoors and fishing? Was it part of your natural progression, or did it change your direction?

This brings up a good question rps, and this is not a challenge question, but do you think given the fact that shad are normally not available to bass except early and late on the bank where most fish, is color as important or just convenient? Would a black perch/ green sunfish pattern be just as effective on a lure with the right action?
