  1. I was thinking more when she launched from the kayak to make a retrieve, My labs always had to see how far they could jump when they made the first move.
  2. It's much harder to fish the pothole now, unfortunately do to the new water level and it's effect on the bank space. The trout fishing can be good all winter, but for some reason the fish run small. A place to start would be to access the lake between River Run park and roads end going south out of the park. I use white, grey, and chartreuse Clousers mostly in size #6 for the warm water creatures. trout will hit the same things the take in Taney. My best days have come drifting something close to the bottom that looked buggy, scuds, sowbugs or something small, dark and fuzzy. In the summer a yellow foam spider can keep you feeling like a kid when fishing for longears and gills, with the occasional small bass. They are plentiful in Swan and and the edges of the Pothole. If you want more directions, PM me and I'll try to give you some areas nearby that may accessible this spring. The brown that laker referred to was suppose to have been caught at the mouth of Swan creek.
  3. I think that's an exaggeration. A lot of people on this sight are native to the general area, KS, AR, OK, included and WE see the smallmouth in much the same manner that other states see their native trout. We only have so many rivers and they are stressed and there will be no replacement. It shouldn't be hard to understand why many are protective of them. The smallies are somewhat vulnerable in streams to begin with, add cold water and drive them to a spring and they are in a barrel. I see people catch and keep smallie out of the pothole every spring and it doesn't bother me because these fish are part of a much larger population that is seldom tapped considering their numbers and area. A lot can be reported without reporting where the fish in the barrel are and it's hypocritical to whine and hide locations near you then go shoot fish in a barrel and invite the world.
  4. Actually that was tongue in cheek and I don't think it will be a problem. I do think if anything stripers will be good for the lake. I suspect there will be some pigs checking out the pothole eventually.
  5. Did they get the plane out?
  6. Not the trip report, the GPS pinpoint at a time when the fish are vulnerable.
  7. Well they'll have to beat the stripers to them.
  8. By the way, I don't think the restaurant before the junction is open for breakfast anymore. I think it's lunch and dinner, Tu-Sa. I screwed up on the Daddy o's , it's Two Fat Daddy's! They open at 7AM.
  9. Well you obviously don't crappie fish or fish the White bass run. The original post that started this had 674 views, know any of them? Smallieb also doesn't post many locations in his backyard but doesn't mind doing It somewhere else. If he's not worried about his immediate area, then why not give locations, and leave posts up? Those fish are very vulnerable and the season is open on them, not that it generally matters. I'm not opposed to giving out information, just advertising it with minute details. I'll always answer a PM.
  10. Cajun/Creole is hard to find here, but good eating if you can find it. There's a small cafe in a strip mall, north side of Sunshine, in Springfield that has some good Cajun. There fried oyster Po boy is very good.
  11. Wagging here tail, so how did that work out when she launched?
  12. I've seen both used in the NW. I think the River Runner would be best here. there isn't much area for a rock to wedge in on them. I think the other post are right that a pitch fork style could be trouble. The River Runner is billed as a deflector, rather then a guard and I think its meant to be the sacrificial part when the motor gets kicked up.
  13. Taney stocks the upper end.
  14. nxs is talking about Charley's, it's on the left immediately after turning right at the 4 way. Charley's probably has a web site with the hours. I believe Daddy O's BBQ also has breakfast now. It's on the right about halfway through town. There is a donut/etc. place on the left just past O'Riley's in the new building that has some items. there's a place between it and 'ORiley's that has food, but I'm not sure about breakfast or quality.
  15. Besides having something n the water, it's hard to find infallible rules. I do believe though that when the light is sharply bent, morning and evenings, the fish are more aggressive and strangely in contrast when the sun is high overhead. I've observed this over the decades, but it is also subject all the other factors that make it far from fool proof. The low pressure theory is still part of the plankton rise, etc. I don't believe though that any research has been done indicating that it changes how predator fish behave beyond the expected excitement most fish show when a lot of food is present.
  16. I think you forgot, ignore Blazerman's rules.
  17. Another question? The rockpile doesn't have a warning and really didn't need one at normal power pool. How does the height of it compare to the new level? It seems to me it will be covered virtually every time it rains enough to raise the level a foot or two? Anyone have an idea what the altitude is?
  18. I think this more than an observation. It's cited often and does follow a common sense path. It's easy enough to record the movement of zooplankton and it;s attraction to baitfish, but connecting it to game fish takes a leap of faith.
  19. Of course if it was on BLM it was illegal to pick them up. I always understood the no digging, but not the picking them up off the ground.
  20. I have caught a couple incidentally below Powersite. I have no idea what the population is, but I see people jug fishing occasionaly, but again I have no idea if they're wishen or fishen.
  21. bfishn what county would this be. I spent much of my childhood in Grundy?
  22. Well I feel slighted! I fish from a 13' Mohawk Solo and I don't think I would want anything shorter. Mine has just enough rocker to make it barely track decently at that length. If you can afford it I would go with the Vagabond or the Mohawk. There are also those who solo a tandem like the OT Penobscot 16 which is within the weight limits of most (59#?)and at 16' not out of the question to solo. You also have room for another if the need arises.
  23. I haven't hunted in decades. I pretty well gave it up when you had to get the gender, age, and birthplace before firing at them. The names do surprised me also. F&F's list for me would be: 1. Mallard = Greenhead 2. Goldeneye = whistler 3. Gadwall = Gadwall 4. Teal = green wing or blue wing 5. Canada Goose = Canada 6. Snow Goose = never 7. Widgeon = Widgeon 8. Scaup 9. Redheads=big ducks 10. Pintails 11. Wood duck=woodie
  24. It's good to know concerned citizens such as yourself our still willing to sacrifice their time for a good case.
  25. Well Cricket Creek marina has such a sign and guess what state it's in? I would assume that in MO the water patrol would enforce. There was a small covered dock in the cove on the south side of Old 86 that had a sign "No Fishing with in XX feet" I don't know about others on here, but I think the rules is a good thing. Try getting into a gas dock on a busy weekend and then imagine somebody with a TM down fishing or kids jumping off the dock swimming. That's got public safety written all over it.
