  1. There you have it, Old Plug says they were at the VFW.
  2. I wouldn't gripe about that price either!
  3. He's lucky. I had an acquaintance who's son turned a sailboat over in 55 degree water. He manage to get to a tree and get out of the water, They found him there dead from hypothermia. I would urge anyone in water 50 degrees or so to wear some protective gear unless you cab run out of the water. It doesn't hurt to have a safety kit either, fire starters, matches, small saw etc.
  4. That's a little confusing. Is the USGS going to stop reporting, while NOAA will continue? Is NOAA picking up the tab now?
  5. Wow that's a lot of damage. I've dropped off a couple of times but had leaf springs both times and without the boat the trailer grudgingly came up and over sliding up the springs.
  6. I think I would contact Billy Long and ask him to find what the cost is to operate it? That way you can separate the wheat from the chaff.
  7. I agree hknfish. I do some bait fishing in Taney and it's hard to release them and I've seen what appeared to be a healthy fish turn up when released. As you say, they'll feed something.
  8. While I don't agree with the action, don't think they really take recreation in to account that much. Most of the gauges are to predict flooding downstream in important areas. They apparently don't believe the Jacks Fork contribution is that important.
  9. Isn't the county a different airstrip and the one with the boulder bank at the side of 65?
  10. When I was living in Or we used to launch a drift boat on a steep grassy bank about 20 feet above the river. We could back to the water at the takeout and didn't have to crank it back up.
  11. Real fishermen can launch from anywhere.
  12. I understand that the plane can takeoff with no problem. With drop at the end of the runway he'll be airborne pretty quick if he takes off that way. I've not been on a short runway landing, but I have been on planes, while in the AF, that had to abort takeoffs and they can put some unbelievable pressure on when they do apply the full brakes and reverse engines at the same time. I would imagine the passengers were hanging off of the seat belts.
  13. I think the no fishing, swimming etc around the commercial docks is a good law. It's not like they take up a lot of the lakes area. I think we all know how congested they can get in the summer. It's hard enough to try and dodge all the boats there trying to get in and out without worrying about someone not paying attention or in the water. Billfo I understand the no trespassing and whether it's legal or not I don't know why anyone would have a problem with it. It would be no different then entering a beached boat. The signs claiming no fishing however are insulting at best for someone to believe they can control an area of the lake. The property between the power pool and the top of the flood pool belongs to everyone and if an owner wants to put a sign up he should put it on his property, not ours.
  14. It wouldn't have crashed in the lake but onto 65. With the traffic added in, big disaster. I think, but I'm not positive, that the two runways are somewhat inline and I would assume that is why the tower didn't pick up on the wrong approach.
  15. My kids used to vacation at a TR resort on Indian every summer and at times it was like walking through a barnyard.
  16. Given the fact you have to put something together I would look at Cabelas Prestige Plus or Premier. Good drags for the money and if you watch you'll probably find them on sale before spring. If you're just thinking whites and trout I would think 5wt, maybe 6wt. The white season isn't long enough or dependable enough to dictate rod choice.
  17. I doubt that it would be worth coming to TR from Theodosia. I would go east before I went west.
  18. Well there are probably a few Table Rock and Taney resorts that will thank you.
  19. Nothing and it really isn't lost in the stream, say like a freezer burned fish dumped in the garbage. At least that one will reenter the cycle.
  20. There were some largemouth in the creek above the Bennett spring. Ed used to keep a sharp eye on it from Springview and run people off. He let my son, about 12 at the time, fish them because he knew he would release them. I have a picture somewhere of one that's probably 16-18" from the pool.
  21. It's virtually worthless as property. By the time the road easement is figured in and the high water mark put in place there is hardly enough room to build a storage shed?
  22. I think it depends. In Phil's case the size of the lake at Branson versus the number of fishermen hardly allows for any untouched waters. In the spring there are some white bass areas that are so universally known and reported on that it doesn't matter. The same can be said of some crappie areas in the spring, but the crappie areas often required pinpointing and that's different case.
  23. I've found that a piece of dowel works well. I suppose anything round and smooth enough to protect the braid would work. Just throw a few wraps of the line around it and you have a handle that will allow you to apply a lot of pressure.
  24. I know that floaters seem to be a big problem, but all in all they generally aren't. I wouldn't miss a trip on any of our rivers because of floaters. You can play the waiting game, just call the local out fitter and ask them what the latest heavy launch is, and wait. I don't think it bothers the fish, their pea brains get used to the canoes and they forget about them 10 seconds after they pass.
  25. I can't weight. Like ducky said a 6 or 7 weight will work for all 3. I might throw the 5 in the list, depending on what your main target would be.
