  1. Is it the style of the ones I mentioned? I think my Hydra sport was a '77 and it was the wide flat boat with a pad. If the price was right I would think that s bathtub style would have some followers today. With stick steering you could search without ever leaving the vicinity of the seat.
  2. Probably a giant, I know there were some in the refuges north of KC so they're in the flyway.
  3. TR3? Not sure why that didn't come to mind. I fished with a buddy many times out of a TR3 with a 135 Rude on it in the 70's.
  4. I didn't remember the street name off the highway, but don't you just keep bearing right?
  5. Hang in there mic, good help is hard to find, but they'll find you.
  6. Great story Wayneb. I suppose the first one that comes to mind was during an elk hunting trip. We were driving a two track through a bald that led to a small canyon that often funneled elk. As we approached an area where I knew 2 cows had been killed the day before a Golden flew out probably no more than 30' in front of the truck. We stopped to watch him and a mature bald and an immature bald flew from the same pile. I had always heard they didn't get along, but I suppose when the buffet is set it doesn't hold true. I have always heard the same about grey squirrels and fox squirrels. this fall I watched a group of grey's working a hickory tree pretty hard and along came a fox squirrel who joined right in. I did notice that at one point a grey went out of his way to avoid coming too close the fox and later the fox did the same thing.
  7. I don't think a case would get to court concerning fishing at commercial marina. They don't allow you to skateboard on a highway and they ain't going to allow you to impede traffic at a commercial dock. It's a simple case of public safety. A few private dock owners get the idea that because the commercial docks can prohibit so can they, but their signs are meaningless because they have no authority in their lease. If they were smart they would realize this, some don't and some bluff. Many also do realize that just because they put a lawn to the waters edge that they can control it, technically they can't because it is public property to the flood control pool line.
  8. I won't address the line, but I will the backlash. Removing a backlash by picking has been the accepted method for many long years, but for braid it doesn't work all that well. For braid put your thumb on the spool and hold it as tight as possible and then pull on the line until you can't pull it any tighter. After this start pulling the line off of the spool. This sounds crazy, but it does work. What happens is the thin, slick braid tends to straighten itself out and you then end up with line wrapped too tight, but not bound.
  9. I do take exception to the "when all the food is gone they will level off", Shouldn't that read everything left will level out? I don't understand this stance by the department, but it seems to be a standard. They are taking a stance on hogs that they can do better if the public stays away. Sounds more like job security than anything else.
  10. Actually given the fishing methods in Taney I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't a good number of flatheads in their that will die of old age, fat on trout.
  11. Is that the place where AA meets the river?
  12. The boat looks like one of the older bass boat models, Bullagator, Monark, Ouachita?
  13. My best pattern for a jerkbait is too crank it down hard for 4 or 5 cranks and then pause for a count. I generally start with a 5 count and then add onto it if it doesn't work and the water is cold. I also like braid because it floats and that means no sag and it is also easy to see a take which in cold water is generally a slight tic in the line. I've also found that color seems to be more important for jerkbaits. Maybe it's because everything is slow motion.
  14. I agree with Ham that TR gets a lot more attention. It goes back to things that had nothing to do with fishing however. TR was easier to access from a highway standpoint, eventually had Branson's uniqueness to help it along and eventually it just had more facilities. They are both White river reservoirs with much the same structure and fish populations. It will depend a lot on which will be easier to access from your location. TR is pretty busy in some areas in the summer.
  15. Surprising to me. Generally when it's cold every small lake, pond, and backwater freezes and send the ducks to places like Taney.
  16. Yes. It's called Marblegound, Ponce, or Golf creek. It's on the road between McCall bridge and Ponce. It's basically a wide spot with a washed out two track leading to the river about 50' down.
  17. I would hate for that to happen to me. They obviously aren't as foxy as people think.
  18. Run. It's an expensive habit forming sport.
  19. We used to see it on some of our equipment that was made or parted from Asia. It seemed that they didn't believe that non moving parts and especially fasteners needed to be very good quality. It was a little bit of a problem even iron on iron.
  20. Wrench are you taking notes?
  21. while all that may be true herons fish in very shallow water and I have a hard time believing those areas 12" or less right at the bank are that full of trout. All things are possible, but that doesn't make them common or consistent. Back in September we watched and eagle light on a small bar across from us, probably 100yds<>. He went a few feet out on a log and within a couple of minutes had a meal. Not sure what it was, but about 6" and probably not a trout. he ate it and then returned to his perch, but after a long wait he went back to the bar and then to the upper end and started his vigil all over. He stayed about and hour and then gave up and went up river. He replaced a heron that spent a could of hours in the area and went hungry. For all whose waters have been decimated by herons, Taney, Bennett and the Niangua are still healthy and they're cooking more to replace them.
  22. I'm going with house cat primarily because of the ears. those aren't cougar ears. I also "think" is see stripes. If it is a big cat he certainly well fed also, those are healthy thighs for cougar.
  23. It sure looks like poor corrosion resistance from either the alloy or lack of a coating. aluminum and iron don't like one another and don't really get along without out help. the sticky thing is it would probably cost another $10 per engine to fit it with resistant hardware and that would cut into their profit.
  24. I read that, but the trouble is neither of my dogs do and they definitely don't pee that way. When they pee the only important direction up, something must be vertical.
  25. Is an alloy seizure or a chemical?
