  1. Doesn't sound like it's that good, he didn't catch any fish at the last stop. Sounds like it took him to the wrong place.
  2. That was my understanding also, but then they quietly raised the listed conservation pool to 656, I believe it was. I still think the trade off, the loss of crop land, bank fishing opportunities, loss of campgrounds more often and the expense of moving some infrastructure, to overcome a problem for a non native fish that has survived for 60+ years and produce world records has to questionable. Makes one wonder if it is in fact the real goal?
  3. Should be fine in the main channel. You've got an extra 8' to work with.
  4. Well if you don't get some good suggestions, I would launch at Shadow or River Run and proceed to the Powersite dam. You might consider a stop at the bait shop in Forsyth, it will be the second building on your right after the 4 way stop, they are always helpful. You can generally park with a boat.
  5. I haven't heard that in a long time. I suppose Power Bait replaced it and Velveeta.
  6. I haven't been up there in awhile, but a lot of it has graveled in and the stretch from Ft Niangua, don't know where the eddy is, has some shallow stretches that, like onshot said, are slow.
  7. Don't believe so. It was 654 for most of its history, then they moved it to 656 for some reason. I thought maybe they had decided that 2' would be enough to make the trout happy after 60 years of suffering. When I checked the level yesterday I noticed the pool was listed as 661, 5' above the 656 that had been listed and 7' feet above the original.
  8. Very nice. I like seeing snakes alive and well. I always knew them as salt and pepper kings when I was young. Some names are confusing though. I grew up calling water snakes water moccasins and cottonmouths just that. At one time , in my early teens, we lived next to a chicken farm. There was a welcomed black snake, Pilot I believe white belly, that was all of 6'. It's job was to eat mice and the occasional unwanted egg.
  9. I see that SW Power is showing 661 for the Bull now. Have they added the 5' to the lake?
  10. Those are great. AP with a machete in one hand and booze in the other is kind of scary though, did y'all sleep alright that night?.
  11. I have this rod with the handle cut off 3", which brings it down to a normal trigger handle length. It's one of my favorites for stream smallies. The bottom suggested lure weight on this rod is 3/16ths and nice for throwing stuff you would normally have to throw on a spinning rod.
  12. I knew it wouldn't want to fly and would do so reluctantly, but I did wonder if it would at least get out of the boats shadow.
  13. There are some good crankbaits, but none that I believe are compatible with a 6 year old. Tiny trebles and kids are risky, and in my opinion when there are 2 it is too risky. The wading might be questionable also. Bennett is not over run with people sympathetic to young children unfortunately and she won't be able to wade out to the "line". The new concrete ledges at the apron hole would be great, especially if you could get her there early enough to get a spot. A spot there and a black and yellow marabou jig would almost guarantee success. I would still lean towards Truman if they run water.
  14. 6 is a little small, but I would probably try her with a Super Duper early, probably in the dam apron or the whistle. The store rents kids waders. If it were me I would take her below the Truman Dam with either Rooster Tails or minnows. The west side has stairs and a lot of flat areas for her to fish safely.
  15. Most laws concerning glass on a river have to do with boats prone to tip. Given the fact drifters do class IV regularly and are not prone to tip, it's hard to get too excited about drinking a beer in one.
  16. Sure. There is a MDC access at the bridge crossing the river. The entrance is a couple hundred yards down 248.
  17. So have you thrown it of the long rod yet?
  18. Don't fix what isn't broken. Reels are built for wet environments and if they were briefly dunked in shallow water there is probably nothing that needs to be done. If you aren't sure then remove the side panel and see if everything is still lubed and drain any water. It really depends on how long they are in, how warm they are compared to the water and how well sealed the gear case is. Everything exposed should be built to be wet.
  19. Winter is always iffy. If they're running water the ramp at the dam puts you close to the action if that's where you want to be.
  20. I had a pair of Cabelas flats boots that I wore with my kayak. I generally wore them in the winter with my neoprene's. My ides was that the buoyancy would allow me to get of the water quick. The down side was soft support in the sole. If these or some like them have some support and rock protection, rather than something for soft sand, they should be great.
  21. Too bad the cowboy didn't call in wildlife so they could trap it.
  22. I've seen it after the last 2 rises and it really didn't take on much color.
  23. Or each persons all time favorite for a predetermined species.
  24. Well when a teacher is fired for using negro, what do you expect? There are a lot of words used to describe people that are meant to offend, because the person on the receiving end deserves it. It's hard to get rid of a word that blacks don't like when they use it.
