  1. I thought I had seen a post a while back regarding the spinning reel/rod combo that Phil uses for casting jigs on Taneycomo, but I was unable to find it with a search. With that said, I am looking to purchase a quality spinning reel and rod specifically for casting small jigs targeting trout at Taneycomo. What does everyone like to use? It seems any reviews you read have a love/hate for a lot of the same gear. I may throw some small spoons with the combo as well, but it will primarily be used to throw jigs.
  2. I fished pretty much those exact marabou jigs except with a regular zinkerz trailer and it was very productive in some of the small ponds i fished this year. I was shocked at the size of some of the Bass I caught with it.
  3. I think something like an interactive fishing log could be cool. Where you can choose criteria on what was working for you that day (lures, locations, time of day, water temp, air temp, frontal/post frontal, etc.). After you have your data entered, you could open the app say a day before a trip and enter what the conditions will be like and it could open up several trips that you have encountered before with similar conditions- whether it was time of the year, same weather patterns, etc.
  4. Sorry for your loss.
  5. You would think it's been below freezing for months and you guys have nothing better to do but pick apart bass pictures... It's going to be a long winter. Nice fish Fins
  6. I heard the Red Sox finished last in the AL East this year.

    Pizza With Sourdough

Looks great, nice bubbles in the crust.
  8. I read on the MDC site that there is a 20 gallon per day spring at Busch Wildlife. Does anyone know where it is located?
  9. Anyone else have any advice? I was thinking about heading up toward the river portion opposed to the lake. Any thoughts?
  10. Yes, the sourdough is just for the added flavor, I would still add your regular yeast to get it to rise. One of my neighbors was throwing out a big old rectangular charcoal grill that I cut apart and modified with some fire bricks and made my own version of a brick pizza oven. Takes forever to get it preheated to the right temperature and you go through a lot of oak logs just for a couple of pizzas, but the results are magical.
  11. Looks good! I let my starter sit for too long in the fridge and I have yet to replace it. You may already know this, but I figured I'd put in my two cents... Try putting in an ice cube or two in the oven at the same time as your dough. The steam from the ice cubes will give you a really crispy, crunchy, crust. My favorite is making pizza dough with the sourdough. Puts most crust from pizza places to shame.
  12. Saw this somewhere else... http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/145058-humminbird-998-si-with-si-transom-transducer/
  13. I would assume they are probably Gizzard Shad? I'm not sure if they would compete with the bass for food, but I guess they would with panfish. I would think that if there is a plentiful supply of shad that there should be some big mommas in there. In one of the public ponds in St. Louis there are some big ole gizzard shad. I hooked one on a crankbait accidentally. The bass I do catch out of there seem like they are eating rather plentifully, and they seem to like the bigger bulkier lures rather than smaller finesse baits even though it's pretty heavily pressured. Have you tried fishing for the bass with some bigger lures? Thats what I would be trying out, maybe just the smaller ones are interested in the flies.
  14. All of them?
  15. PM sent.
  16. I'm the bay you can get away with 1/8 or even 1/4 oz spoons all the way up to a 1/2 oz. I just meant that I prefer the bay to the gulf.
  17. I would personally stick to the bay. Spoons will catch you all species of fish... Specks, reds, mackerel. WTD and wake baits are good, and swim baits are also good. Again, I think a spoon is your best bet - I'd be throwing a gold one.
  18. Thanks for the info.
  19. Hey guys - I just wanted to check in and see if anyone on here has fished Ft. Gibson lake to any extent. I will be making a trip there in the middle of October and I was wanting to see if I could pick someone's brain about techniques and typical patterns for the fall.
  20. Take an old pair of you wife's panty hose, put the bait inside a piece and hook in on like a pouch to your treble hooks.
  21. Tons of them by Sherman Beach on the Meramec.
  22. On Fridays during the summer, my employer let's you take a half day if you work an extra hour the rest of the weekdays, so with a forecast for sun and a heat index of 105 I figured what better way to spend it than by going fishing! Well I wasn't too excited for the heat, but I've had things going on with the little ones at home the past couple of weekends and I hadn't been out fishing for a while. Today fishing sounded good, regardless of the temps I was going to wet a line. Today would be the day I finally headed to the Meramec to go after these smallmouth that everyone on here drools over. My goal was to just catch one. I have never been smallmouth fishing. Outside of some trout fishing, I have zero experience fishing on rivers. I can hold my own on a lake, pond, whatever, but I have no idea what I'm doing on the river. I headed out to a spot on the Meramec in the Saint Louis area and started scoping out some fishing areas. Like I may have mentioned earlier, I had no idea where to fish on the river... in the current? in the slack water? before the riffles? after the riffles? by the laydowns? I apologize if my descriptions of the water are off, I don't know how to describe them in technical terms. I didn't start out with much luck - switched between a buzz bait, crankbait, wtd lure, and soft plastic. The only action i had was spooking some carp and the occasional take of my lure by a gar. But I finally stumbled upon a spot that looked good to me. There was a small point looking area on a cut bank of the river, current ran right in front of the weedy point, behind which was some slack water. I tossed my plastic almost right onto the bank by the point, behind the current and slowly twitched it into the water. I gave it about two more twitches and let it sit. My line started darting to the left, towards the current. I gave it a good whack and felt something big. Catfish? Gar? This seemed to big to be a "good" fish i thought to myself. With one leap out of the water, I knew I had found what I was after. She jumped two more times, each time I was praying I had her buttoned up well. I finally landed her and knew I had caught a beautiful fish. Nice bronze color, healthy body, no wounds or sores. This was a fish that has swam in these waters for a long time. Took a few pics and a few measurements and she was on he way home to swim another day. In my excitement i forgot to measure her girth. I was hoping I could come on here and say I hit the magic 20" mark, but she came in right at 19".
  23. Pumk-Chini, sounds like something my wife would order at Starbucks...
