  1. The old red wagon does bring back some memories. Living here in SWMO we saw it quite often. I remember my uncle telling me a story about old Harold and fishing for crappie as well. He said they were on the lake and saw him filming for one of his shows. Couldn't catch a crappie that day to save his life. Hollered at my uncle to come over to their boat and talk. Said when he got over there they asked him if he had caught any and he said yes. At that point they either paid him or something like that to get one of his crappie. Uncle claims they kept hooking the same fish over and over just to get some film footage for the day. Whether or not that was true I don't know, but it made for a good story and as I got older and wiser I figured old Harold did pay him for his fish. I mean, many people were gullible enough back then to never know the difference. I always enjoyed McKinnis as well along with his dog.
  2. I guess I don't really know at what level you guys have launched in the past. Just looked awful low to me and I didn't see any bigger boats putting in. I do know for sure that it isn't even close to be full blown yet. One good indicator is there were no fish cleaned by the ramp!!
  3. Went by there on Saturday and the water was still pretty low. Didn't look like a fun time launching a boat! I think I could have waded out to the first pillar and probably only get wet up to my waist.
  4. I know last time I waded up from Ackerman I went to the first island as was slaying them. Then the water started to come up. By the time I made it back down to the access the water was up to my waist. It does come up pretty fast and I know that was only two generators going then. It always seems the trout know when that water is going up and they gorge out or something. Good looking fish BTW.
  5. Going to go out again pretty soon. I read where the lake temps are now hitting at least 50 and, in some places, closer to 55. Should be getting really close to the big run.
  6. Don't forget the old trusty Zebco fish de-liar! You know, the black one that was never right and always rusted up after one season? lol I must admit I only have two bags for tackle so I am pretty good there. One is for trout and the other for anything else.
  7. Went down yesterday to see what is going on and it isn't on yet. Talked with one other person coming back to their truck and they didn't do anything either. I didn't catch anything myself. It was a good scouting adventure though. I checked the flow on Saturday and it was sitting somewhere around 8300 cfs and when I got down there on Sunday it was sitting around 8100cfs. I see today that it is considerably less than those numbers. Makes me think they are running water at the dam. The water was chocolate mud with debris and it had a good flow to it. Didn't see but two or three rigs at the ramp either.
  8. Figured if I didn't start the thread someone else would! 😄 After last night's rain and today's rain, the Spring and Neosho should be flowing pretty good. I was down there last week scouting the 10C bridge and the water was super low. I saw the gauge this morning and it is rising! If the water temps are somewhat warm it might start the push upstream. I don't think the water is warm enough yet, but it might be close. I know this weekend I am going down there to give it a shot. Doubtful I will succeed, but you never know.
  9. I know someone who comes down from KC every year and they stay the night before and party it up and I highly doubt they even go to bed. He told me to get his favorite spot he needed to get there by 4-5 before they sound the siren. Brags big time when they catch one over 18". Then again, he is one of those that only go like once or twice a year. Typical of most folk down there I'm sure.
  10. That is tame compared to what I have seen in the past! lol I don't do the opener anymore, but when they fall on a weekend there is about double what you see in the pics.
  11. I think Tractor Supply took them over or that is what I thought I heard.

    Dynasty

Great game and I still am not so sure about the holding call at the end. I know for me it just tainted the win a little. To be honest, I wasn't so sure Butker would make that one at the end! He missed one earlier and then we all know how many he has missed prior to that. Great game nonetheless and what really cracked me up was that in the pre-game show NO one picked the Chiefs to win. They should have known better than to count out the Chiefs!
  13. I don't think it is anymore. If it was the one I'm thinking of that was on the main strip then yes it has closed down as well. I go through Monett quit often too.
  14. I'll let you know at 4:20. 😵 LOL
  15. Only a couple of inches in SWMO. I had planned on going fishing this morning in the snow, but that didn't happen and now I am at work. ☹️
  16. Been following this one and absolutely that is what should have happened with the charges. Can't remember the actor in the interview I read, but they said THEY always check the gun themselves before ever pointing or discharging it. They believed since they were the last one handling the weapon, they should take responsibility for the outcome. This was someone who had done several action movies in the past. Like someone else has already said, several contributing factors made this happen, but we all know the person with the weapon in their hand is the responsible one. They have the final say so before that trigger is pulled.
  17. I'll show this to a buddy of mine and see what he thinks. He grew up in a pool hall because his daddy owned it, but I have seen him play and I know he his top notch. I think he told me years back that he paid upwards of $500 for a good stick and that was over 20 years ago. This probably isn't a bad offer.
  18. Aw heck guys, just skip those jigs, they don't catch anything anyways. 😉
  19. I have eaten at a Whataburger in three different states, and I thought the same thing about each visit. What is so great about it? Nothing as far as I can tell. I know a LOT of people swear by them, but for the life of me I don't understand why.
  20. Mt neighbor deployed some like that a few years back for revenge on someone. They were a lot smaller than the one you have pictured. We were fishing a remote area on Grand and were heading back downstream in our kayaks when he heard a noise of glass breaking. Some young punks had gotten bored and decided to put a large stone through his windshield on the 4runner. We actually saw them get in the car and take off. Being it was a gravel road we got in his 4runner and started to chase them down to get a license plate number. They finally got to a stop sign and he cut them off. After following them back to their house so we could talk with the parents about the cost of a new windshield. The parents then blamed us for following the kids in a high purist chase! You can see this didn't go well. Neighbor had to drive an hour and a half to file police report and then nothing ever happened. He decided to get some justice, so he went back late at night put those in the driveway. I still wouldn't want to step on the smaller ones as well.

Yeah, this is some kind of tribe alright! lol Glad to be part of it though and wouldn't trade it for anything.

    Family History

Never did see the need to do one of the DNA tests. My aunt from my dad's side has our whole history on a chart and all. Come to find out I am a son of the revolutionary war. They can trace my relatives back to actually serving with Washington and only living like a mile away from his house. My mom's side is a different story. They never had any interest in doing something like that and most of them have always hated each other so I guess that is why. I am supposed to have 1/8th Cherokee in me, but my mom said they went to Tahlequah to research the role and our name wasn't on it. Hard to believe my grandma wouldn't have known her own heritage, but I am wondering if we are from a different tribe. If you saw me or my mom it doesn't show, but my grandma and great from mom's side sure did look every bit native american! I guess I am just a mut like most of us are. lol
  23. What a day to say the least. Had a great time and will remember this one mainly for Buzz trying to kill a muskrat! 🤣I'll let him tell that story. All in all not really bad for catching fish when comes to down there. We almost all tied for the title this year. I almost ended up with only three as well this time around. Caught mine on an olive/brown type jig and then one in ginger color. Biggest tapped in just a hair over 16" for me. My count for the day was 3 browns, 1 bow, one goggle-eye, one chub, and a nice kicker of a largemouth just around 12". I know Buzz probably should have won this year, but alas you have to get the fish to hand and that didn't happen for him on a couple that I witnessed. He also caught a nice brown that was just a little bigger than mine so we are giving him big fish for the day. Although a poor muskrat had to pay the price on that one. Lol I was surprised that three of us had more than one fish to their name come noon. Tjm kind of came late to the party so he really didn't have a chance by that time! trythisonemv I don't think Buzz could remember your handle when you came walking up so that is where the Mr. T reference came from. At least that is what I took from it. Great day all around and another one in the books.
  24. Don't get your hopes up too high now. We might get lucky to get a half inch of the wet stuff and that's it. That won't do squat!
  25. Sunday should be a good day weather wise. The rain trythisonemv will indeed help us out! Just as long as it doesn't flood the creek will benefit greatly from this rain.
