New CORPS notification for tailwaters
netboy replied to Phil Lilley's topic in General Angling Discussion
I guess Taney is different. I get the actual 9:00 AM update (which displays on the 4th line down next to the date) at 10:06 for Bull Shoals. -

Just wanted to bump this response up so nobody gets caught using this text notification with a false sense of security. It has been pretty much useless to me. -
New CORPS notification for tailwaters
netboy replied to Phil Lilley's topic in General Angling Discussion
It works... but I noticed that the notification comes 1 hour and 6 minutes after the hourly release data is posted and it appears to be just that... the hourly snapshot of the flows. So be careful if you are close to the dams. From what I have seen so far here is an example.... Say they turn the generators on at Norfork at 10:10 am. That increase won't show up until the 11:00 am hourly update and then the text notification comes an hour and 6 minutes after that. So in this case you are notified approximately 2 hours after the water turns on. If I was wading at Ackerman access on the Norfork and relied on the notification, I would be swimming down the river when my now drenched cell phone would be trying to text me. It would be great if they could just send a notification when the horn blows before they actually turn the generators on or when they shut down. -

That looks great. Thanks Phil -
I would throw my name in the pot, but I don't think I could get much distance with my fly rod. 😄 Good luck to all.

New State Record Cutthroat out of Norfork
netboy replied to snagged in outlet 3's topic in Norfork Tailwater
I was at the Trout Unlimited meeting in Mountain Home last night and heard about it. One of the guys had a picture on his phone but I only saw it from a distance. At any rate that is quite a fish. Norfork does have some really nice cutts. -
Nope never get tired of fishing. Nice thing about this area is that there are so many different places to fish on the White and Norfork. Not to mention the Spring river, Crooked creek, Eleven Point, NFOW and the lakes, although I haven't tried the lakes yet.
-
Yeah, that's off our deck. We never get tired of the view.

Caught this brown this morning just below the house. Oddly enough it was almost exactly where the rainbow in the second picture (which I posted a couple of days ago in the photography section) appeared to end.

Those are some great fish and excellent information on how to do it. I've never tried night fishing but it sure looks like that is the time for browns.
-
When the fish takes the bead and you set the hook, the hook sets on the outside of his mouth. No chance of gut hooking which is great and why they use this system in Alaska where rainbows are mostly protected.

Surprisingly this one (1500 series) has been working pretty darn good for me @ $15, free shipping no taxes. I bought it as a spare, but use it regularly. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2017-Sharky-II-10-1-Bearings-Spinning-Fishing-Reels-model1500-6000-pick-size-BA/122746902975?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=423165084414&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 I paired it with this rod.. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Okuma-CE-S-602UL-1-Celilo-UltraLite-2pc-6ft-Spin-Rod/302846263832?epid=79623632&hash=item46830b4218:g:ULYAAOSwkLJbIUcM

Forgot to mention that it took a little over a month. Also I saved about $55 by not ordering the driftwood background. I just found a suitable piece of driftwood along the bank of the river, soaked it in bleach for a few days and put it out in the sun to dry.

I recently had a replica done by King Sailfish mounts of a nice cutthroat I caught a few months ago. They will do a complete custom replica or for less $$ they have "off the shelf" blanks from previous mounts that they will paint based on your pictures. Here is a link to their "off the shelf" rainbows. http://www.kingsailfishmounts.com/freshwater-fish-mounts-trout-rainbow-c-164_186.html?osCsid=3ba59li8k5vg0laiv8df3raou1 Here is how mine turned out and a pic of the actual trout.

Very nice.... Congrats

Hey Ham, it was $287 plus shipping... The FedEx guy brought it in a 4'x4'x12" box and it took some time to unscrew the mount from it's frame. I was totally satisfied with their service. Got it 3 weeks after ordering. I had a skin mount done on a big rainbow many years ago and it took well over a year with lots of coaxing. I'll never kill another big one for a mount. This one looks better than the skin mount. Here is their website... you can search for most any species. Key is take good pics of your catch from different angles and then let him swim. http://www.kingsailfishmounts.com/freshwater-fish-mounts-trout-cutthroat-c-164_184.html

That's a pretty one!

They can do a complete custom replica but it's more $$$. They also have "off the shelf" blanks (from previous mounts) that they custom paint for less $$$. This is one of those. Fortunately it was a male cutthroat and close in size of the one I caught. As I said, I sent them some good pics to work from.

Well I did have a replica made by King Sailfish mounts and just got it back, Sent them a couple of closeups of the fish. Looks great over the fireplace.

Need help picking river boat
netboy replied to Fishfighter's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Nice boat Snagged... That said I think the OP will be happy with either a Supreme, Topwater or Blazer... Fiberglass or aluminum both work great. But definitely get a jet. Way too many rocks to hit and shallow gravel bars to run over that are not prop friendly on all these rivers. -
I'm thinking a testicle or both... but with a very dull, rusty knife. Once again without a doctor present.😁

With those rivers you will be fishing, I would suggest a jet. Also keep in mind that the Eleven Point has a 25 hp max limit. Some of the others may also. I have a 17/48 Blazer with Merc 25 jet and am happy with it. -
This was copied from the AGFC trout newsletter.... We conducted our annual electrofishing sample in Dry Run Creek on August 8th. During the sample, we collected several large fish with what appeared to be angler-made notches in their tails (see attached picture). We have heard of folks doing this to "mark" trout as ones they have caught previously. We strongly advise against the practice of doing so. Injuries of this nature can cause infections in the fish and ultimately lead to their death. The additional stress of handling and clipping can also negatively affect the fish. Please leave trout marking up to us, which is typically done in a controlled setting, while fish are sedated, and their condition is monitored for several weeks prior to stocking.

All the guides I see up here on the White are running 60/40's on their Supremes and Topwaters. That should be plenty of power.
