  1. Normally we see lots of trout while drifting down the river. This last trip I didn't see a single trout while drifting. I hope it was just a slow day.
  2. I fished the Eleven Point yesterday and it was slow also. Caught about 1/4 the number of trout that we normally do. I am starting to think we lost a significant number of trout to the floods. Hope I am wrong....
  3. Good to hear this. Thanks
  4. Brian, do you think we lost some trout due to the flood? Hope not...
  5. Sounds like a fun day for sure.
  6. Wow, think I'll pass on that. Too much water in every direction. but I guess it's a good thing for the rivers.
  7. We rented a canoe from Brian at Eleven Point and went from Greer to Turners. Had a great time and caught lots of fish. Really a pretty river and Brian will give you some great advise.
  8. Looks like a fun trip. Is the water level back to normal after all the rain?
  9. Great video. Kudos to the maker.
  10. Looks like a great trip and some pretty scenery. We are going to try a trip on the NFOW on our next trip up there in December.
  11. We also love the Norfork and White, but since we are wade fisherman, it's been a tough year over there. I understand they finally cut back on generation at Bull Shoals earlier this week. Should be some great fishing over there with lots of fat trout. Look forward to fishing over there on our next trip in December. Great thing about this area is there are lots of options. We plan to try the NFOW for the first time on our next trip.
  12. Spent the last 4 weeks at our house in north Arkansas flinging flies after trout. Fishing was good with good numbers of trout most mornings. Both the White and Norfork rivers were running lots of water 24/7 so no wade fishing there. The lakes were being drawn down from the big rains earlier this spring and summer. We spent most of our time on the Spring river and made 3 exploratory trips to the Eleven Point river in southern Missouri. We rented a canoe from Brian Sloss at Eleven Point canoe rentals and put in at Greer and floated to Turner's Mill. We were really impressed with both the fishing and scenery on the Eleven Point. It's quite remote and on an all day float we never saw another fisherman. The fall colors were just reaching their peak when we left. Best flies were eggs, crawfish imitations and the old reliable olive woolly bugger. One thing we did learn is that you need lots of weight and extra long leaders to get the flies down on the Eleven Point. Here's a few pictures..... Caught this toad on the Spring. He weighed 8 3/4 on my hand scale and is my new PB trout. Nicely colored male from the Eleven Point Cutthroat from the Spring Wife fishing the Eleven Point Rainbow from the Spring
  13. What a great fish! Congrats to the young lady.
  14. Nice fish...Looks like your hard work paid off.
  15. Darn it, every time I read one these posts I have to go shopping! Found some of the black/coffee on Ebay and also ordered some olive/brown that looked pretty good for a crawfish imitation. We'll see.....
  16. I used to think that if a trout was caught and released it wouldn't hit a fly again for some time. Last trip to Norfork I caught an 18" rainbow that had 2 very distinct markings, a lamprey scar on one side and very distended vent. It definitely was not a dumb stocker. Well I caught the same fish 10 minutes later in exactly the same spot.
  17. Check on Ebay. They have some great deals on the entry level Ross Essences and the Redington Crosswaters lines I picked up a new Ross Essence 5wt for $50 last winter. For a decent beginner reel check out the CNC reels on Ebay. Yeah they are made in China, but a pretty decent reel for about $25. They are anodized aluminum and much better than the plastic stuff that BassPro sells in that price range.
  18. We spent the month of July at our house in Cherokee Village and fished both the Norfork and Spring rivers. Never made it to the White because of all the high water. Fishing was good with high numbers of stockers most days along with a few nice ones in the mix. Best flies were eggs and scuds on the Norfork and crawfish imitations and eggs on the Spring, Caught a few browns and cutthroats, but no size to them. Here's a few pictures.... Spring river rainbow Norfork rainbow Pretty Norfork cutthroat Another Spring river rainbow Norfork rainbow with some nice colors
  19. SJ worm is a San Juan Worm. It's a fly pattern that looks like a small worm.
  20. There is only one campground on the Norfork. It is Quarry Park located just below the dam and run by the Corp of Engineers. You can fish at night.. You will need a reservation this time of year as it gets pretty crowded.
  21. Sometimes I keep a couple of trout for a meal and when I clean them I see lots of snails in their digestive tract. If they can pass a snail shell, then I doubt they would have any problem passing a kernel of corn.
  22. we usually catch 2 or 3 cuttys a day between the two of us. They seem to hang out more in the shallow shoals and really like the trout crack.
  23. I've seen many rainbows with white tips but the strange thing about this one was how smooth and slick the skin was compared to other rainbows. The purebred cuttys I have caught over there have that same feel.
  24. They work really well dead drifted under an indicator on the shallow shoals (just over ankle deep). It's amazing how shallow trout can hold and you don't see them.
  25. Caught the big one on a size 12 egg pattern in pink and yellow.. Also had good luck on a size 16 trout crack.
