  1. Water went down this morning at Cotter but it was still muddy. I took the boat up to White Hole Access and ran up to a shoal where was some wadeable water. Fishing was good and I caught most on an olive mop fly and the usual Y2K, about 50/50. Good thing was a few caddis came up before I left so I tied on an Elk Hair and caught a few on that. Here's a coupe of browns, one on the mop fly and one on the Elk hair... nothing huge but still fun.
  2. They actually shut Bull Shoals dam to less than 1 unit around 10 this morning. May be due to high water downstream. Newport gauge is showing 21.5 feet and rising.
  3. I read there are quite a few retired Chinese living in northern Itlay. Somewhere around 350k. Probably lots of travel to/from China, family visits etc.
  4. Country living...
  5. I recognize that cedar tree!
  6. Check out this video of the Wuhan market in China where all this started... pretty disturbing. And then wonder where this crap came from. They eat dogs, cats, rats, bats and whatever else in unsanitary conditions. They say the virus started with bats and they seem to love them although the Chinese Government claims they don't sell bats at the Wuhan market. Look at 1.28 of the video. Those aren't squirrels. https://youtu.be/Fy32wPczz_w
  7. Well I feel safe now...
  8. Due to mass hysteria this is also cancelled. That is all....
  9. We had some rain storms move thru this morning so I waited till noon to go fishing. I went to Wildcat access and ran the boat up to a shoal that has some good wade fishing on these flows. Fishing was very good and I think I caught at least 60 with 2 decent browns and a couple nice rainbows. I caught the bigger brown on an olive mop fly and the Y2K was best for the rainbows. Saw a really nice brown cruise by but I think he was only interested the smaller rainbows. He didn't give my mop fly a second look. 2 Attachments
  10. The flows on the White have come down a bit lately so there are more wade fishing options. This morning I launched at Rim Shoals and made a short run to an area that is wadeable with these flows. I started with an olive mop fly and caught this nice brown along with a number of rainbows. When that slowed down I switched to a Y2K under an indicator and caught the rainbow in the second picture along with about a dozen more rainbows and 1 cutthroat. Interesting that the cuttie had a lamprey attached to him and it took some yanking to get it loose. Hate those nasty things!
  11. Not much difference than a prop outboard. Just lubricate the main bearing of the jet pump after each use. I also have a homemade tool to clear the intake if you run thru some weeds. That will stop a jet real quick.
  12. With all the high water here on the White I ran the boat up to some protected water this morning and then put on the waders. As I was idling up to the area I wanted to fish I spooked a really nice brown. I put on the waders and started wading upstream throwing my new favorite fly... a real "technical tie"... an olive mop fly (LOL). I caught lots of rainbows along with 2 nice browns. It was fun as most strikes were visible and I missed a really big rainbow that I struck and set the hook a bit too early pulling it out of his mouth. Here's a couple of pics of the better browns...
  13. Just got back from a 3 week vacation in Europe to find high water conditions here on the White. They are running all 8 units 24/7 so wade fishing is very limited. I took the boat to Rim Shoals this morning and had a decent day. Best fly was an olive mop fly drifted on a 10 foot leader. I caught quite a few rainbows as well as this nice brown and a 19" rainbow. Beautiful day with temps in the 60's when I left around noon.
  14. Check out this video... all you need is around $90k. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=SCB+Boats+94+Mph&&view=detail&mid=40F201D1E2EA06B7B6DB40F201D1E2EA06B7B6DB&&FORM=VRDGAR&ru=%2Fvideos%2Fsearch%3Fq%3DSCB%2BBoats%2B94%2BMph%26FORM%3DVDMHRS
  15. I have a 25hp Merc jet on a 17' Blazer and that is plenty fast for me. My favorite take away on fast boats is when I was fishing in a redfish tournament in South Texas and a guy had a 300hp on an SCB 20 foot cat hull flats boat. He said it would do close to 90 mph. Then he said "I don't know where we are going but I want to be the first one there."
  16. Sounds like a great adventure. BTW... where is this place...cardiac?
  17. Well crap... it's $2.27 around Mountain Home. That's still pretty cheap based on previous prices and I only fill up once or twice a month.
  18. We loved taking our kids and grandkids on a drive thru his 101 ranch just down the road from us. Sometimes we would see over 200 deer and lots of turkeys. Here is a pic we got of his prize bull.
  19. Just heard that Forrest Wood passed away today. He was a real legend here on the White river and the founder of Ranger boats and a great guy. RIP
  20. Water has been way up this week on the White with flows around 22k cfs. They are running 6 units and releasing another 7k cfs thru the conduits. I waded one of the few protected areas this morning and fishing was pretty good. Caught lots of rainbows a couple of small browns and 1 cutthroat. Best fly was a heavy peach colored egg bounced on the bottom under an indicator. There were LOTS of guide boats out today throwing streamers. They were here for the annual party at Dally's fly shop, which we just got back from. Also Steve Dally announced that we lost a real legend today... Forrest Wood passed away today. RIP FLW. Here is a pic of one of the better bows.
  21. 1. Chain river bridge over the Danube in Budapest. 2. Vltava river in the Czech Republic.
  22. One more tip... Reds are constantly moving to find their food (think grazers) whereas our trout in the rivers are stationery in their ambush points.
  23. Well we had more rain the last few days and the lakes rose about 5 feet so more big releases in the near future. That said I went to my neighborhood backyard fishing areas and the trout were up in their yards feeding on bugs coming up out of the flooded grass. Caught some on a size 18 BWO and also the ruby midge.
  24. It's very similar to fishing the rivers up here. Find some transition areas where there is a shallow ridge or drop-off. Redfish will follow those contours and then wade those areas and you will catch fish. Also very important to figure out which way the fish are moving...always into the current. That is usually a very slight current in a bay system created by tides or winds and then wade slowly into the current direction to maximize the opportunities.
  25. We enjoyed south Texas while we were there but the summer heat can be brutal. It was like 9 months of heat and 3 months of cooler weather. Also got tired of worrying about hurricanes and tropical storms. We closed on our house in Corpus 1 week before hurricane Harvey hit. We enjoy the seasonal weather up here.
