  1. Here are the new regulations for the White and Norfork effective Jan 1, 2018.. https://ozarkflyfisherjournal.wordpress.com/2018/02/02/new-agfc-regs/ As far as boating the Norfork on minimum flow, I would suggest not going past Long Hole even with a jet. Also the amount of rain has little effect on the Norfork since it is only 5 miles long and only a couple of small creeks flow into it. A kayak is probably the best option to float the entire river.
  2. Thanks BH, I found this link on details for tying the T&A. I'll give it a try. http://www.flysandguides.com/how-to-tie-kelly-galloups-ta-rainbow
  3. Yeah, I tried to get some pictures with my cellphone, but too much reflection.
  4. Thanks for suggestions guys. Next time I'll try this streamer my friend Mark Crawford gave me a couple years ago. He said it imitates a small rainbow really well. It was interesting that it all happened within 10-15 feet of me and in thigh deep water.
  5. This was a first for me. I waded an area near the Cotter bridge Sunday morning where I have been seeing a big brown trout the last couple of trips. The water was down and very clear. Sure enough he was there but once again wouldn't look at anything I threw. I tried an egg pattern, sculpin imitation, big streamer, marabou jig, midge and then a woolly bugger. He followed the sculpin once and then lost interest. I finally gave up on him and went back to an egg/midge combo and started to catch a few rainbows. I hooked a 12" rainbow on the midge and then a couple smaller rainbows started following the one I had hooked apparently interested in the egg. Then I see the brown swoop up and grab one of the rainbows (probably around 10") and had him sideways in his mouth. I watched him settle back to the bottom and he held that rainbow sideways for about 5 minutes then turned it around and swallowed it. He stayed in the same spot all that time. Guess I need to find a rainbow trout colored jerkbait.
  6. Very nice trout. Congrats
  7. The water is basically clear and has a greenish tint to it in the deeper runs. I could see the bottom in waist deep water.
  8. Caught this pretty 19" Bonneville this morning at the Ackerman access. Great to see them growing up. For those that might not know, Trout Unlimited planted Bonneville eggs in the Norfork and White rivers in an attempt to create a pure wild strain of these fish. They chose the Bonneville strain so it would be easier to identify and monitor their growth. The Bonnevilles have larger spots than the Snake River cutthroats that are stocked. Here's a link with more details.... http://www.wholehogsports.com/news/2017/jun/21/bonneville-cutthroat-egg-planting-norfork-landmark/
  9. Your choice of streamers will depend on the amount of water running. Use large articulated streamers on big water and smaller ones on low water. Here's a link to Dally's streamer selection that might help. Most are pretty hard to tie (at least for me) so you may want to stop in and buy a few and talk to the guys about how to fish them. https://theozarkflyfisher.com/shop/cat/1/22/big-streamers https://theozarkflyfisher.com/shop/cat/1/66/buggers-small-streamers
  10. Wow, it's a small world! Let me know when you get to feeling better.
  11. Yes we are at 1374 MC 7031. We bought the house last July.
  12. We sold our house on North Padre Island (Corpus Christi) and then sold the little house in Cherokee Village and bought a new one in Flippin on the bluff overlooking Roundhouse shoals. So we are full time in Arkansas now and really enjoying the area.
  13. Sounds like a great day. I was wading at Ackerman yesterday and had a good day also. I left at noon so I am sure I missed you. Give me a holler if want some company sometime. I've got a kayak and a pickup so it would make the shuttle pretty easy. Also retired so no job to get in the way.
  14. Pretty brown from Cotter on the White river....
  15. Excellent job. Makes me want to make a trip up there.
  16. Be sure to go to the old Harps in town on 62B and not the new one on 62/412 west of town. The old one has a big sporting goods section.
  17. The siphon that was installed at Norfork Dam has helped the DO levels there. Even with that the DO levels were still low this summer due to all the organic matter flushed into the lake from the flood in April. Here is a link to the details.... https://garverusa.com/markets/federal/65/norfork-dam-siphon/
  18. Phil, the Arkansas limit is 5. Trout 5 Rainbow trout, brown trout, cutthroat trout and brook trout, combined.
  19. Done. Filled out one for me and one for the wife. Thanks for the heads up.
  20. Beautiful fish. Good job on the release! Congrats....
  21. So sorry to hear. Didn't know him, but I am sure his good karma will live on. RIP Bro.
  22. Wonder why Sheppard Hills had such bad luck with the cutthroats. Norfork Natl hatchery seems to do a good job with them. We always catch a few cuts each day on the Norfork and some are pretty big.
  23. That's a busy schedule! Have fun and take lots of pictures.
  24. Thanks Phil. Here's a post from Dally's Fly Shop that has some more info on how we can help. https://ozarkflyfisherjournal.wordpress.com/2017/06/02/north-fork-of-the-white-fundraiser/ These folks need our help.
  25. These folks and the river need our help. Please volunteer your time or make a donation.
