  1. I wondered the same thing, also what about the resident fish in that area, did they all go upstream? or find relatively cleaner pockets or creeks? Id assume that they are tolerant to to some extant, but this is excessive. I guess only time will tell.
  2. The trout guys have been very thick at forest park, I went up there the other day...took one look and left, it was insane. How long does it take for that pond to be cleaned out? A week or two?
  3. Spoon fish need steady and constant pressure when hooked. When the hook is set you can't drop the rod tip. The fish sling spoons cuz of instantaneous slack in the line, like a sudden drop of a rod tip after the hook set, or a pause in cranking the fish in, or a combination of the two. This causes the spoon to drop and they'll shake it. The line tie has to stay between you and the fish. Pressure has to be hard and constant. You can't play with em like with other lures and you can't do herky jerky stuff like yanking em outta grass. That allows them to jig it free.
  4. Affirmative.
  5. Guns are cool. I agree, i like them too. Of course i piss you off, i piss of most folks! You probably dont read that much on the site though....cuz i post quite a few fishing reports, as well as chime in on technical information where i feel i might be of some help. What about you? Ya know....there sure is a lot of sensitive feelings here on this forum, youd think it were a bunch of teenage girls discussing which boy band is better. Quit getting so offended, its the internet cheesemaster. I wear a life jacket too, and i also like cheese! See we have some things in common.
  6. Thats happened to me a few times...with a few different brands...moral of the story is to just get new batteries all the time. Realistically with the money we spend on rods and reels and lures and gas and such, 200 bucks a year for new batteries (if that) is money well spent. Take your old ones back (they get recycled), or use em for other things that wont ruin your day with a failure.
  7. You make it sound as if carrying a firearm on you at all times is really not all that great of an idea....like it may have some unintended consequences. Folks really dont care about safety or else, your correct, theyd be decked out in bullet proof armor all day every day, even then, better off wearing a life jacket as your probably more likely to drown while fishing then be murdered at the ramp. Face it...hand guns just make you look so cool.
  8. This was well said. Plenty of college grads with nowhere to go, and too many nonsense college degrees. I also think that too many college educated folks are leaning more toward finance type degrees where there is more of an immediate return on the "investment", instead of STEM type degrees that drive innovation and development. There just isnt really any financial incentive to pursue such degrees.

    Jerk baits

Im not noticing feathered trebles? Do jerkbait exerts advise against them? My collection of jerkbaits is quiet embarrasing compared to those....but one thing ive noticed is that if I feather the treble i get more bites, maybe its a confidence thing. Any thoughts on that? Am I just wasting my time? I firmly believe it helps a topwater bait, but it sure seems to help my jerkbait fishing too.
  10. Ill hedge my bets. Nicely said....i have such a hard time saying reasonable things without going into nonsensical gibberish. I agree with everything here. We could manufacture new things!....For example, energy innovations like solar power (that like it or not, will have to be implemented eventually...why not get a head start)....what if americans put the energy and resources into developing super cheaply made, yet highly efficient solar devices....then americans can make them, and americans can sell the to the rest of the world which doesnt have that technology. Very similar to the economic boom of the 1950's and 1960's, then we can tax the billionaires at the same rates we did during that time period. Once upon a time people thought that 8 hour work days, and decent working conditions with decent pay were basic rights. Education used to be a privilege for only the wealthy, now we all feel that everyone would benefit from a high school education. This could absolutely be expanded to higher education...more education is good IMO. The beauty of progress is that with a little effort people can make the world better for the humans that inhabit it, and possibly the ones that inhabit it next! Do you consider a socialized police or fire department to be problematic? MODOT? Much of american society is (and always has been) socialized, we just pick and choose what is good and bad. I would die a happy man if the things that i thought were "pie in the sky" ideas in my lifetime were considered basic rights to my son, and his kids.
  11. 1.) Income inequality 2.) Energy 3.) Education..or lack there of 4.) Climate Change/Environmental....notice how 1,2, 3, and 4 are all tied together? 5.) Some nonsense about ISIS/gays/guns/jesus....blah blah blah Who cares? I support Bernie cuz he is the closest thing to a decent human being in that crap heap. He is by far the most intelligent, and understands the major problems facing the united states. Unfortunately....presidential voting is purely ideological, as congress is so deadlocked that any meaningful legislature will be DOA. There will never be a huge progressive program like New Deal type legislation...it just is simply impossible with the way congress is structured. Your local legislators have much more of an effect on your life than the president, but nobody could name any of their local alderman. Business as usual...nothing to see here....the rich get richer...the rest of us go to church.
  12. Deep jigging spoons are hands down my best technique at table rock. They flat work. Thanks for posting this. The typical spoon application is with short 2-4ft hops and letting it flutter down under controlled slack. Another great point that he mentioned is to flip to the back of the stall, then open the spool and peel off line so it falls straight down. A couple things that were not mentioned that I have noticed during my experiences. 1.) If you think back to school days and doing the "rubber pencil" trick, waving a pencil up and down and it appears to bend. This can be done with a spoon. With the spoon directly underneath you, grab the line just above the spool with your finger, and pull on it so the spoon moves an inch or two at a time. Dont move the rod tip at all, the only motion is from your finger wiggling that line. It works awesome. 2) Fish will eat a jigging spoon off the bottom, this summer i noticed quite a bit, that my spoon would hit the bottom and as soon as i lifted it off there was a fish on. I started to let the spoon rest on the bottom, then give it 1 quick hop about a foot or so. 3.) Horizontal approach, most folks thing of a spoon as a purely vertical lure, however, i often catch fish by setting up on a ledge, and casting the spoon parallel to the bank. Allowing the spoon to sink to the bottom, ill rip it back, and let it flutter down, reel up slack and repeat. You can cast it further than just about anything else, and you can work it very very quickly eliminating junk water. Dont forget you can also hit surfacing fish from quite a distance by having one tied on. I think jigging spoons are so versatile.
  13. Get the cheapest marine battery that walmart sells, everstart or something...then replace them EVERY year. Expensive batteries...are just that, expensive batteries...they all get worse and worse every year no matter how much you paid for them. Better to just swap em out.

    Jerk baits

Not a lot of reviews on that lure i noticed lol. 100 bucks for a lure that costs the manufacturer less than 20 dollars to make is a tough pill to swallow.
  15. I think during a major flood like that most the fish stay pretty tight to the channel to avoid being trapped. Especially as the water begins to drop. Other than that idk....but a huge flood Def changes the river. I noticed that just below the rr bridge at 141 there is a new gravel bar. Crazy how dynamic rivers are. I'm interested to go walk the banks of the lower river....but looks like I'll need to wait. I have a pile in the back yard on the wood line that's fish and animal guts and it only lasts 1 or 2 nights with fresh meat there. It's like a buffet. With all the corn, bird seed and the vegetable compost put out they get side dishes too lol.
  16. I thought the same thing. Just doesn't seem wise to me. Like everything else I guess.....if there is money to be made in short term go for it.
  17. I always enjoy reading your reports and your pics. I bet that was a fun old time in light gear!
  18. Interesting thanks. I had no idea. The article says "500" year levy assuming folks will know the jargon. Guess I'll stay off the lower river for now. The lower river often has a robust fecal aroma...and that's with these up and running. Wonder what it like now....maybe there will be a killer bite on brown senkos.
  19. At any given time Id say i only have between 4 and 10 rods with me. My boat is little, so if im bassin at table rock...my go to set up is a med heavy power fast action casting rod for 3/4oz jigging spoons (st croix avid, with Lews something or other/cabelas prodigy with lews something or other). Also, ill have a med extra fast spinning rod for the split shot and DS, and another extra fast spinning rod for WTD baits(fenwick aetos, abu veritas, oooollllldddd bps extreme). I Guess i tend to stick to the techniques im best at, id be confused if i had 20 different rigged rods to choose from. If im walleye fishin, 2 longline rods (10ft floppy guys with ambassadors) and 2 bottom bouncin rods, (8ft med heavy mod fast casting rods...also ambassadors.) and the jigging spoon setup. If crappies are an option than ill have 2 6ft 6 light fast rods for 1/32-1/64 oz jigs (fenwick river runner, fenwick silverhawk)
  20. Those pics are awesome! Especially the lm.
  21. I agree with this, except I think many would argue they would be considered too hard left, socialistic, big government, high taxes on the rich. It just depends on what lens your looking through. I think here in lies the problem though, there is no room in 2016 politics for people who dont tow the party line 100%. If your an R you believe XYZ, if your a D, you believe ABC...the problem...BELIEVE. There are no facts, no discussions..a side is picked, once a side is picked people for some reason have to agree with EVERY conservative, or EVERY liberal position. NO room for discrepancy. Ive always felt like a progressive liberal (obviously) but there are SEVERAL issues where id say i fall quite in line with a conservative. Unfortunately there is no room for representation in washington for people who feel differently from the repub/democrat entrenchment, sucks too because the majority of americans arent as entrenched as we are led to believe by 24 hour news networks/media in general....which i agree with mark...are exacerbating existing problems.
  22. The skill you possess in answering questions with very relavant links in a timely manner blows my mind. Bravo! You are a fountain of information.
  23. The whole situation was completely unnecessary, and now a human life has been lost and it has become a tragedy. The above statement could not have been said any better.
  24. Blah sorry guys.....although im not sure i called anyone any names accept for Alex, for which i apologize...i have no idea how or where he got his money to buy his rig.
  25. Ive fished it for bluegill a few times, but it was several years ago. Caught some along with some small bass on light panfish jigs, and crawlers. Beautiful lake though ill agree, at least when i was there. Im sure there are plenty of fish to be had if one were to get to know it well.
