What other variables? So CO2 doesnt absorb IR light (most of the suns energy is in the IR range)? What else is causing such a radical increase in temperature? What else is causing the decrease in pH in the oceans, and the build up of carbonic acid? This is the type of BS that drives me nuts...its good to be skeptical and question things...but have you submitted any papers to journals? Can you elaborate on your findings? Im really curious. I worry that my son and the generation after him will hate us for our selfishness. How can so many people continue to deny the obvious? -

Nope.....the science behind climate is rock solid, its people who dont understand yet still want to promote their agenda that say its sketchy....CO2 absorbs IR radiation very strongly at about 1700 wavenumbers. IR radiation excites vibrational energy levels in upon absorbion, decay back to the ground state happens via non-radiative pathways, this generates heat. The more CO2 in the atmosphere the more heat. This in turn increases the temperature of the planet, which allows for more water vapor be absorbed and more trapped methane to be emmited, both of these are also strong absorbers of IR radiation, exacerbating the problem. Its irresponsible to lie to people about things you dont understand, especially when the consequences are so dire. I guess what do we care? its our grandchildren and their kids that will have to deal with it, so we can live in our little denial bubble. Ya know cigarette companies once said that smoking makes you healthier. -
How bout talking about working jerkbaits? I know if you have a megabass technique doesn't matter but for those of us without super lures it's important how to fish them. For me I have 2 rods I throw jerkbaits on. 1 is for bank fishing the other for boat fishing. The boat rod is 6 inches longer than the bank rod. But both are med heavy extra fast spinning rods. I need spinning gear to make long casts with it. One is 6ft the other is 6ft 6. I use 10/2 braid and a 10# fc leader. I typically cast out and just let it sit for a 5 or 10 count. Then I do a hard pull/sweep of my rod to get it down to it's max depth. Then once again I just let it sit and watch the line. I've caught more fish on a jerkbait by fishing it more like a weightless senko. Not moving it at all. Pull the rod tip a few feet. Reel in slack and watch ur line closely. Often times I'll get a bite the second i move the lure after a very long pause. The other way I have success with jerkbaits is fishing it like a subwalk type lure. With a back and forth cadence with periodic stop and starts. I Make the retrieve as erratic and inconsistent as possible at least for me it seems like it triggers more bites. I like the extra fast rod to give me more control of the lure. Dressed treble hooks are also important to me but that could just be confidence related. Another thing I firmly believe is that good hooks are key. Top water baits and jerkbaits are treble hooked lures that fish eat when they are sitting still. A jig hook gets set and a crank bait hook sets itself. But top waters and jerkbaits really need to grab and stick well. Just my opinion but the hooks have Def made a difference for me in getting fish in the boat. I'd be interested in hearing others tips, tricks, and techniques as jerkbait fishing is something I've really only focused on the last few years.

from my post "If you know how to catch fish the gear is totally ancillary" I think you may have misunderstood me.... -

You are vile and always post totally inappropriate things. Baitwhore? Gross...What have you done for a lure? Wait...NVM i dont wanna know. -

Why are you sorry? I disagree with most people about most things and couldnt care less. Getting away from human beings is one of the reasons I fish lol. Ive actually only fished a ned rig a few times, and had better luck with other stuff, but the notion that gear needs to be expensive to be good/effective is ridiculous. Maybe im not all that effective at fishing...but i seem to have a good time fishing and my most expensive rod and reel combo is 200 dollars, and my favorite one is 100, i feel fortunate that i have the means to have several rods and reels and have the money to spend on it. That said, I think its BS that people think they cant do well cheap gear. Of course its best to get what you can afford, but lots of people simply cant afford the best. If you know how to catch fish the gear is totally ancillary. You can get a LOT of fishing done with a 7 ft med spinning rod and a size 35 spinning reel for less than 100 dollars. -

Yup...there are also 500 dollar fishing rods, and 100 dollar lures, there are no limits....fortunately for less than 50 bucks you can go a ned rigginn and out fish all of expensive crap. -
Here i clicked on this thinking "zona" was some new cool technique ive never heard of.

I wonder how drum eat? I've thought about tossing em in the cooler but have no idea how to clean em.

Nobody gives any love to the lowly bluegill. lets just all agree that members of the sunfish family (black bass included) fry up wonderful with some taters and cole slaw. What a goofball argument to have even for OAF...it must be january "smallmouths are better....no spots....no smallies...no spots!!!!!"

Yes...it needs to look like a minnow. We over think it. Other than that, its the conditions that dictate when a jerkbait will be used. I understand that you and buster are great jerkbait guys..... but somebody of a normal skill level and ability will not notice a significant difference. I promise that a megabass 110+1 wont work very well in a 6ft grass flat with 2feet of visibility and 80 degree surface temps, not the time nor place for jerkbaits...nope...your fishing them in cold clear deep water, hopefully with a slight chop. Youd catch 5x fish more with a husky jerk than most guys would with a megabass. MB lures are an expensive waste of money...my guess is that you even put good treble hooks on them, probably with a custom feather on the back. You and Buster will only use a certain jerkbait, and a certain color, and modify and go all crazy with them....that said...your still doing that under very strict conditions. How many 110+1s did you sling this past summer?
-
I just have some knock offs of the 110+1 that I painted myself, but personally.....I prefer the deep rogues, and deep xraps, in terms of action. its just that the 110+1 style bait occupies a good depth between the normal and the deep jerkbaits. Also...ive noticed too many times where the feathered treble has made a difference, so now every jerkbait has a feathered treble. I just think it gets more bites when the bait is sitting still, like fins flaring or something.
-
The least important part of jerkbait fishing is the jerkbait itself....behind, when, where, why, and how comes the bait. Some guys would catch more with a number 2 pencil than others with a 30 dollar lure.
-
Some probably do...its a balancing act for energy reserves/requirements....summer, more food in, more energy out...winter, less food in less energy out. If there is abundant forage, warmer than average temperature, or even just a fatter hungrier induvidual fish (after all...just like people they are induviduals) then one or more than one may grow over the course of the winter. In the early spring...fish gain lots of weight as they are beginning to feed heavily, but temps are still cold.
-
Agreed....cold water fish are much more durable.....I caught some crappie about a month ago...tossed em on ice and took em home. Later that evening i went to clean them and they were all still alive and surprisingly lively, never seen anything like it! They dont need much energy, or oxygen or food when their metabolism drops and all the biochemistry in their bodies slows down significantly. Most chemistry (metabolism) slows down tremendously as temperature drops...cold blooded animals have no ability to keep the temp up...thus keeping the chemical reactions moving at the same pace. The cold blooded bodies simply adjust to the slower chemistry, by shutting down unnecessary functions (less blood to the extremeties and muscles for movement, less blood to digestive system for feeding). People have long said that fish caught from cold water taste better than fish from warm water, the reason is because blood vessels have contracted to force more to the brain, and vital organs. Less need for movement...so less blood to the muscles.

Why the glass bead? For noise? Do you use a bobber stop to hold the weight in place?
-
These are probably my favorite baits for catching anything that swims/versatility. When in doubt sling a 4inch swing impact and slow swim it back....although i prefer the 5.8inch because i feel like i get the same amount of bites, but bigger ones. I usually rig them on a EWG hook texas style with a bullet weight and bobber stop. If grass/junk isnt a concern then any old swimmin jig will work. Dont forget about a weightless attack...that tail thumps hard on the fall even without a weight. Yes...they are pricey..but i am a cheapo when it comes to gear, and I still think these are worth every penny. Tips....get a jig head with no collar...that collar is harder on them than the fish. Just use use a collarless jig, and a drop of loctite glue. Give it a ten count and your ready to roll. Also...if the head is ripped just keep on pinchin and re gluing cuz fish will eat it as long as the tail is swimming.....seriously they will eat it 1 inch long. When the tail rips off but the rest of the body is still alright, they do work great as a ds worm in my opinion. I turn them sideways on the hook and split whats left of the tail section in two similar to a super fluke. Im sure other worms might work better...but when it comes to keitech baits i use all of the buffalo. I have some of their other baits, but ive never used them. I like that buzzing frog that they make. Also.....the two inch swing impacts are crappie magnets. I fish them on a 1/64th oz no collar jig head, and can usually get several crappies per bait...although dink bass rip em up. If casting is a problem with such a light jig, rig it a few feet under a spring bobber (indicator...lol). The tail kicks nicely on the fall, then as soon as the bobber stands up, give it a slow pull and reel in ur slack. I have yet to find a swimbait that swims at a slower speed then the SI/easy shiner. Ive caught bass, crappie, white bass, hybrids, walleye, bluegill, catfish, drum, and even a musky albeit a little one on them.

Mind boggling ain't it?

Hmmm.....interesting thread....I think the number one thing to do is hire a guide, that said, most people go about guides all wrong...dont worry about catching fish....think of it as a 4 or 8 hour paid 1 on 1 lecture from one of the top guys in the field. Ask lots of questions, and for the love of god shut up when they are talking....be a sponge, listen and absorb. Who cares about spots or fish your catching, but focus intently on techniques, and the whys and hows and whats more than there wheres. Cherry pick as much technical information as you possible can. Thats just my 2 cents from my time with fishing guides...they are fisherman too and will talk all day about what they know, just gotta get em rolling lol. Ive never fished table rock in the winter...but im curious if bass follow shad schools around the mouths of major creek arms? Maybe look at deep vertical structure on or near a point where two large creek channels intersect? If you have good electronics look for shad schools, or fish on ambush spots waiting for them to cruise by. Maybe a jigging spoon with no swivel...get ur line all twisted up and just let it un-twist/spin in front of a fishes face? I always use a swivel, but seems like it would work on cold water fish. Thats a total guess....but finding the channels and drop offs if pretty easy. I like to use an actual paper map though, and look for spots the night before. Pin point areas to target, then on the water, hit those spots and with your graph looks for signs of life. With electronics its alot easier to stay on fish even when they arent biting...although realistically i think that back fires for me most of the time. I think there are usually active fish elsewhere.

2015 was a good year for me, more numbers than size though. Biggest and smallest bass of 2015 here both caught on crappie jigs. Personal best walleye...21 (crankbait)", personal best, white bass 19", and personal best (crappie jig) muskie 14". Cant find the white bass pic, ate a jigging spoon at table rock. 2015 was also the boys first year of fishin....hopefully he manages his addiction a little better than his father.

I prefer a house with good insulation and a working furnace. Keeps ya dry til the rain quits.

Yup, thread destroyed....sorry about that. Cant help with trout, but ill tell yout that you can probably catch some crappie from lake 35, and lake 32 around the fishing piers. I caught 2 in less than in hour on new years eve from lake 32 with a swimmin minnow under a bobber. Could have done better but it was the last day to deer hunt up there and I felt the need stare at the woods and not kill deer all afternoon. Need to be able to cast a good long ways, and just slowly pull the float fast enough to keep the bait swimming. 4-6ft is a good starting place, may be up or down a few feet. If its been warm and breezy for a few days (like today.....) they may be a bit closer to the bank then you might think, but still in the 4-6ft range. Live minnows would probably work even better, but im typically a jig guy, cuz cold minnow water in january sucks. FYI The bait/smoke shop (talk about 1 stop shopping) at 94 and 40 carries minnows all year long.

It would just make everyones lives that much more worse off IMO, mo money mo problems or something like that...i would not be happier with that much money, much less so in fact. Id venture to say most folks are the same. All of my needs are met, and most of my wants are too. The few desires remaining wont be achieved monetarily. Time is a much more valuable commodity, and oddly enough, nobody will ever get any more, no matter what. All the extra money would mean more obligations, which means less time to spend with your kids/grandkids....which in the whole scheme of things, there is nothing more valuable than spending the precious little time here with the ones we love the most.
