  1. That is true Wrench it is pointless in a way because it is the breaking up sheets push by wind that really does the damage.but I have heard from people that have had damage don to lifts. Mine locks up. My deicer clears a opening all the way around the dock. It is fairly large one it is hanging on chains down about 6 ft. I turned it on yesterday and there already was some ice. So when it stated the pressure from the water built up pressure for a few minutes then busted through like there had been a small charge in back of it. Mine currently has cleared a spot all the to the docks on both sides of me and about 10 ft out into the lake. As we go into these bitter day and nights there will not be that kind of progress. One thing about it though it does not run cheap. I think it is 1 1/2 hp.
  2. Sure looks like freezing solid is exactly what its going to do. And it is going to be thick too after this week.
  3. Nopthing up here at LOZ yet but looking at the weather we have not escaped yet. You folks down there at Table Rock are experiencing what sounds like a lot of them in I went through in St Louis. With the freezing rain and sleet on top of the snow it is going to wind up a full blown mess. Wonder what this continued cold and heavy show fall is doing to your Thread fin shad down there. the next few days it is going tone brutal. Maybe the seasonal springs will return enough water from the snow and rain you have been having to deep in the lake and that will keep the little devils alive.
  4. thing is it WAS OPEN. It all froze mondey night. I did not go down to the 54 bridgein your area. but it woyld bet its froze. as soon as the wind went flat within a hiur or so it froxe. now if the weather man is correct we are going to be below freeze thru the weekend and some of that will be brutal. I bet some the ice on the lake is at least 6 inches thick allready back in the coves.
  5. those killer spots are somrthing to avoid you get caught against that current on the bow of that barge there is nothing to grab and you might very well find yourself right down there with those big blues.
  6. I was in Osage Beach today and was able to view the lake at several location to and from my home out of Laurie. It looks frozen solid. This is just the beginning. We got 6 or 7 days with no temperatures over freezing and several of those days will have bitter cold nights. That Ice is going to be awful thick. When it breaks up. It is not going to be good if the warmer weather comes with much wind. I can only imagine how much a chunk of ice maybe 100 to 200 ft long and a as wide are going to weight if the wind gets it moving them about 5 mph or so. It looks like to me fishing is not going to get underway here for several days.
  7. i do not have a opinion on on heron but most the time arounf her they are looking for bluegill. But ido know of one case where a big Heron grab a good sized bass by the dock next door. Wrench might remember that also. you and Mike were working on a boat over there it happened right in front of you fo you remember that.was some years ago. HORRAH HORRAH THIS might be my last post on the dam IPad. Wife has her new 15 " Apple all set up.
  8. QUILLBACK You lived in Bella Vista I thought. What the world you doing in St Louis. a ramp on the riverfront might not be a good idea.somebody would get sucked under a barge. A parked barge would. eat a stalled boat. in front of it.
  9. Phil If you are going to buy a 4 wheeler. I would take a look at that new Dodge. My son in law has one and they have had to make a few trips back to Ohio in it. I was just flabbergasted that he got 24 and 25 mile to the gallon and it is a 8 ft bed 4 door truck.

    Dry Aged Beef

Eating health Mitch has a lot more to do with your habits. This means no more baked fish covered with fatty salty crushed potato chips you, know.
  11. I really prefer the plastic weed guard. It can. be trimmed and spread to make it weedless also when like that it will slow the drop of the jig like a air brake on a plane a plane. Also by bending it down you can make the guard softer. most guards are way harder than need be. It is the reason for some missed strikes.
  12. RICHY I bought the 6" slow sinking model. It meets the requirements for the system I use lunker hunting. I really think of it as a great aid to that. I use very large plastic worms with anywhere from 3/8,oz to a BB sized split shot as a weight. Mostly 1/4 or less. I like a very soft drop. while my system has been very productive most years last year was terrible I only caught 4 bass over 5 lbs. and 2 of them were in about 1/2 hour and about 100 ft apart and they were on large docks in shallow water and thats not my system. I was vey fortunate that evening. i think the problem with my system they were rising for fish. So the BBZ is going to go with me set up on another outfit. I am sure iI will catch some fish on it.

Just how fat are you. It seems like you never stop eating and in great quantities.
  15. I have a solid nothing. It missed us completely. I hope it stays that way. I got to go to Herman Friday and work on my daughters house up there. Need to do some framing and electrical. With all their money I do not know why they ask me.
  16. the ice on LOZ will get to be pretty thick over this next week.as of right now the Gravois main channel is open from Mill Creek Cove on down.but I have seen it feeze over in about 30-45 minute if the wind stops.
  17. those big swim baits are not cheap. I selected the bbz 1 6" slow sinking model. I see all sorts of potential with that. It will be sometime before I uncover how to get the most out of it. its is not my regular bait. it is a supplement to my my regular large plastic worm fishing. If i like this one I am going to get the same plug in a 8" inch model. thing to me is it sinks slow. that is the most imprtant point to me.
  18. they can be aggesive about it. they pick up rocks in there mouth and spit them out and stirs up the water around then. I a bass can do that also. but the drum has a pretty tough looking front for smashing into the gravel. In LOZ some of those dudes can weigh several pounds. I Catch a lot of drum ion jog in early spring. At that time it is kind of hard to tell if you got a bass or a drum. They fight hard in cold water.
  19. i do not like conventional swim baits for the same reason i do not like These rigs they got to be cranked in. this BBZ os the baby model. it is 6 inches long. It also sinks slowly. that means I can do things with it in the retrieve. besides that a Multi hook rig sets up and lot of resistance and I cant retrieve that kind of stuff any,ore because of arthritis. I do not expect to catch a lot of fish on this thing but i expect to catch some 5 lbs on it. It is a alternate to my way of fishing very slow sinking 11 to 15 in plastic worms.
  20. I can se your point there Ham. the braid makes it easier to work top waters of that type because it is so buoyant.
  21. well if they move they make some sort of noise. it would not be possible. and with a stick stuck in the face of a crawfish in a hole I would think he would not be to happy with it. it looks to me like that is what he is doing trying to snap the stick. I watch the drum hunt crawfish and other things in the gravel in back of my dock. very interesting and I bet the bass do it the same way. Sometimes they will go along slowly and make a abrupt turn and actually dig the crawfish or whatever out of the gravel.
  22. I agree and that means leaders and braids as well you just do not see the fraying in braid because wet they are smooth to the touch.
  23. we got over a week of almost constant freezing weather in front of us. I think the entire lake is going to freeze and its going to pretty thick. will take it sometime ticker out after we get through this. i went to Camdenton yesterday and as far as you could see both ways on the bridges cross ing the lake it was ice at bith hurricane deck and the Niangua. the gravois was iced as far as Mill Creek. the rest will go very fast. in this cold.
  24. Ii am retied civil service i pay $700 a month for me and my wife. That government wide health insurance thing is a gold mine for health insurance companies.
  25. Agency spending what a nightmare. I can tell you the lady behind the counter was about a GS-3 . Check it out and see what she is paid. As far as the other money goes Congress with the support of a lot of people have been trying to cut spending. So when they tell a agency that they will receive so much less for money for the next year they start cutting right away. That means jobs etc. the reason is a lot of people believe there is too much spending and borrowing. the borrowing is based as much on less tax dollar as additional spending. They could almost solve the problem by getting rid of discretionary spending and buddy buddy ear marks. I have had first hand experience with discretionary spending. Its a mess.
