  1. I am not sure even that would work Mitch. I have seen enough to make me wonder about both of them.
  2. My wife refuses to fly. I have ridden in some pretty hot stuff out if NAS Mayport. It was right next to the carrier basin and was our home port. You could sing up for a rude with a pilot back then. I was told they discontinued that. What I would. Like to have a ride in is a warthog. They hang around here a lot at times. They are just beautiful to see in the air.
  3. Good for you mic. My daughter is a consultant for exactly what your going to be groomed for. You will be putting a few more coins in your pocket I canguarantee you that. Are you going to move up there or will you be mobile. She is currently in the office but will be going mobile the end of march from her home in Hermann Mo. You might have some travel though. She has been in SC twice and Cal onces in the last two months.
  4. I believe they get some spots told to them through jobbers doing sales for some sponsor. Like said I seen pro come up on a submerged bar full throttle and cut the motor and about 100 ft away and go up to this small bar like they were there several times before. And this was a good 7 miles from the take off. Maybe somebody spilled the beans on a place like this I do not know. But i bet some of. These guys troll these places for info.
  5. Fins until this past year or so we were blessed up here with a lot of big cats. Seem to be a lot harder to came by. Biggest one i caught this year was 17lbs. And that was on a deep hump over 30 ft deep.
  6. 9 lb depending on your age and general health you. Might be OK. Just be careful.
  7. I voted for presentation. Weight and shape are not any good without a decent presentation. But that does not mean to me that weight is not important. But the weigh itself actually has to do with how deep or how softly I want my presentation. The bass is a predator. He needs something to make him strike.
  8. Yeah meat in the freezer that is what they do they comei n and clean up after the white bass feed with there slashing style. When they get under those schools like that they will snap up a spon awful fast.
  9. Anywhere from 20 to 30 ft. Some time I just cast the spoon. I love to catch the big cats. Also love to catch big gar. It is a nice way to enjoy yourself in the really hot dog day evenings. But not with spoons
  10. What happened to the "thinking about nylon shirts "
  11. Well if there is no wind on Pomme like there is here on LOZ you might have a lot more ice tomorrow. Then they are calling for 2 single digit temps the next 2 nights. I think i would just stay home.
  12. I just jig them off the bottom plain most of the time and now and then with a chunk of bait on it. It is not a unusual practice. I am mostly trying to catch big catfish. When i am doing it. They are a sucker for a spoon especially if they are feeding under schools of white bass. I use light tackle. A 51/5 ft medium action rod with 10 lb test line. If you go light it is a. Good idea to use a heavy leader of mono or wire about 6 " long. If the cat engulfs the whole spoon he. Will chew through 10 lb test pretty easy. I. Lost the Largest one i ever hook because of that. I am. Not a regular catfish person.but when i think i have found some large ones using some area i will go after them with my spoon. I have caught several 20+ the largest was 47 lbs I never keep any either.its allfor the enjoyment of it. Thwt and big gar are a poor mans saltwater fishing.
  13. You better look for something bigger tan17 ft if your going to play around on LOZ
  14. It willbe if you get older and have problems with arthritis. Andif you fish a lot
  15. Igot a 19 ft BP Targa. Its a big deep boat. I have had it 11 yrs. Only problem i have had is with the front live well. I suspect one of the there is a crack somewhere in the front line well line. I could fix it by going through a whole lot of trouble( anything under the floor is real real tuff undertaking) but all I do is fill the front live well and pump out the warer that came thru the crackwith the bilge pump. I have looked at the new ones down at BP and am not thrilled about them. They have set the console farther up and the front deck is smaller. The livewells are and the minnow bucket is in one of the live wells. Mine is different. I have a 50" real decided live well , a 15 or 20 gal front one and two seperate individual fill compartments for minnow buckets are big enough to be used as a small live well. I do not know about other models but my Targa does not have ribs. It has bulkheads both longitudinal and accross. It is a strong boat and needs to be around here.
  16. Well I am aware most of you do not like ugly stik rods but next time your at Wally world grab ahold of the Ugly Stik PRO LITE. Pck it up in one hand and any other rod the same length in the other and compare the weight. Another thing I like about the spinning model is it has metal rings on the reel seat. i do not care for any other kind. The 7 ft spinning rod has only 5 spacious guides and a tip top on it.i think that is enough guide to suit me on a rod. I also have 7 ft bait caster.
  17. I am not sure I have a secret weapon. But I would say I have caught most of my large bass on plastic worms no smaller than 101/2 inches and all the way up to 13-14 inch size. Catfish would be spoons for my style.sometimes tipped with a shad. Whites and hybrids a spoon. Crappie.it depends on if you want table crappie or big crappie over 15". Crappie Jigs for table crappie and rogue type baits and bass sized jigs and grubs for the big boys from pre spawn thru the spawn.
  18. One of my best bass days ever was on wappappello. I went down there in spring like weather. It turned real cold and windy that nite and I went out the next morning anyway. It started snowing real hard. I was going to stop and i going to stop but I was not out there 15 minutes and i caught a 7 lb bass. With something like that I sure not going to stop. Do not know how much longer I fished but the snow was about three inches deep in th bottom of the boat and i caught another 7 lb bass. I fished a bit more and it just got to be too brutal. Was snowing so hard you could hardly see in front of you. At the end of the day they had 14 inches. Took me 7 hrs to get back to st louis. So what can I say. Now days I go out in the mornings and a couple of hours and again in the evening when the sun looks right. Light intensity is really more important fo me. There is one exception a steady rain in the spring gets me so excited I would to rise from the dead to get out there. Especially a warm one on a cold lake.
  19. Since most of you are strong believers in finesse fishing. There is one other name should be in there and thats Guido Hibdon. Have not seem him around town in a long time. I know he has had some health issues. He is sometimes referred to as the father of finesse fishing. He did introduced finesse fishing to the world but truth be known it had been a common practice at least here on LOZ from way before that. One of the favorite ways in pre spawn besides a jig was to put a 6 " plastic worm on your line and a small split shot about a foot in front of it. Kind of a vary early Carolina rig. You would go along channel banks and cast to the bank and let it slide and work it down the bank. I have not done that in years. Maybe I should next spring.
  20. I have torn both. Left shoulder I tried to fish thru it last summer. I do not advise trying that. Did additional damage and it cannot really be fixed. Had surgery for cancer that kind of made me set awhile. Went go the bone guy and he gave me a shot that took the pain away for a few weeks. I started moving the shoulder some and after got my motion back with the help of the shot. I started moving the arm with a 8 oz water bottle in my hand. By this time the shot was gone and it got pretty painful to do. But I have worked out a awful lot of pain in it now. I am also working the shoulder with a 2 and 3 lb dumb bell now. Went to the bone doctor last week and he said he was flabbergasted for the third time ( the other shoulder and dual knee replacement) since since I have been his patient. He said he was going to refer his patient to me and not rehab. He was joking. It is going to hurt for a long time my way before it stops. I think it is taking a chance the way I do it some people might suffer a setback from it.
  21. Well you can get thruogh it. My wife does not fish. Is not comfortabke in a boat. Does not undetstand one end of a rod from the other. There have been many tough times. But she has her thing with her computer and church. I admit she has held me back a lot. But she has had to put up with a lot being married for 50 years this year to a deaf man is not easy. I never forget that. Its a grand compromise. Ahhhhh hell fins it is a conversation on here. I never care one iota if it gets off suject. Thats how conversation are.
  22. Yep it counts fins. Welcome to the federation of what is referred to at times as fishing bums.
  23. I Don't know if it will catch anything, but it sure hooked me...
  24. Just be real careful with it but keep exercising it a lot. I have had trouble with both. Its not really healed if your having only 60 percent of the motion. It can happen again real easy. You can do a lot by exercising it.
