I been to the conservation building in Jeff City but that was a longtime ago in spite of the fact that I go to and through there at least 1 time a month on my way to st louis to see grandkids or to visit my daughter in Hermann. Look it up on the internet and there should be something. They got a 800 number you could call also I imagine.

Old plug replied to Old plug's topic in General Angling Discussion

Anyone Tried The Sure Hook Trebles
Old plug replied to Old plug's topic in General Angling Discussion
Al i agree with that 100 percent. Nice to know someone out there got taken in by them. After I looked at the picture of the hook on the lure in the post for some reason it gave me a different perspective. I think the barb is to small and to close to the bend. I will change it and just put another large treble back on. Maybe with with a bead above the hook ring to make The hook ride a bit lower. The whole thing started when I thought those 2" prop blades would interfere with the hook up. I have no evidence that they ever did. Maybe I can play around and invent something on my own. But the lure itself works fine and I have another one with a single rear hook that does well also but it does not really cause the commotion the way this one can. The whole thing started because I do not like to cast those big bladed buzz baits. I was looking for something that would match the commotion and still be able to cast and stop it in the water like a Torpedo. . -
Anyone Tried The Sure Hook Trebles

Yeah i have tried that i hate the fouled hook deal. That is a major part of the reason I wanted my own. The other reason was because iI wanted the largest pop blades Without a real big body. So I been playing with this thing and trying different things and have turned several bodies to come to this point. Its been fun. I was just wondering if others had ever used them. That torpedo in your picture is one great lure. I used them a lot. But i was looking for more splash and bubbles is why i made this one -

Well it should work this time. I have known wrench for 20 yrs. i only found out he fished for gar last month. I wrote him and said I seen on here where some guy caught them on a fly rod. I am not a fly rodder anymore. I looked at the stuff he made and came home and made my own for bait casting. Yeah spotted gar have a nasty nasty set of choppers. You can injure yourself just picking even a dead one up wrong. These are my own concoctions. -
Anyone Tried The Sure Hook Trebles

REBreth---- thats not a Rapala lure. Its called dark cedar. They only come in 2 colors light cedar and dark cedar. I make them on my lathe. I make them for myself and my son has a couple. Its a real good top water but I think I am missing some hookups due to the hook design. As stupid as it sounds now that I have went to all the trouble to post thisI I think I can see why it is not doing the job from the picture. -

I do not think anyone knew what kind of hook i was talking about. They are suppose to be used on plugs in place of regular trebles. Myself i would not use them as a general practice but i do on my top waters because I only have one hook on them. The problem I think I might be might be missing to many smaller fish but the propellors are 2" long and i hoped this would get me a better hookup. -
LOZ has been getting rain for a few days right now it is pouring. I should be out there. Just git done moving a lot of plants however and I think I will rest fir a couple hours hours. Then i am going no matter what its doing.

I have a few of these and put them on my home made top waters. I have mixed feelings about them. I think sometimes they are better then the next tine I do not. I would send a picture but for some reason the photo does not post on the forum from my IPad. They are hard to find they were invented by Dave Frits. Only place I have found them is on Jann's Netcraft

I just started to fish for gar this past month. Here on LOZ they are all over the place and they are not small. I caught one by accident on a plastic worm and noted on here that they were caught on flies. It got me interested. I paid a visit to Fishenwrench and that got me started. I have a spot up in my cove about 3/4, a mike from here where they roll in the evenings. If nothing else I go up there and catch a couple. I caught only one small one up there. All the rest have been a uniform size around 42". The largest I caught was 4ft. They are a thrill to catch but kind of nasty to handle in the confines of a deep V boat. I make the rope lures for myself. With the ones I have been catching here the lure will be about destroyed after the second fish. -
Best Small Lake Near St. Louis For Tubing?
Old plug replied to WOZ's topic in General Angling Discussion
WOW!!! I cant believe the Golden Eagle is still running. I have ridden that ferry more times than I can count. Fish a lot on Swan Lake. There used to be fish camp up there called Bim's Place. I grew up with Bims son. Had a cabin up there as a young guy that was a bit like a hide away For the other interest of a young fisherman. I have nit been near there since I was about 23 yrs old. -
Where Will The Next Missouri State Record Smallmouth Come From?
Old plug replied to Mitch f's topic in Smallmouth Talk
MITCH ---- I agree about catching them off the beds. It is really vary easy to do. Anything you put in front of a bedding bass will get hit. I just do like to see it. I have passed them by for years. As soon as you tske that bass from that bed all the bluegills are going to charge in there and devour the eggs. -
Gramps--- If I understand it correctly you are fishing this bait with a light weight or no weight at all leaving it sink and giving it a bit of action. Have no idea what sort of setting you are doing this in but I do This lot with large plastic worms. Currently I am fishing pretty shallow with 11" plastic worms with a 1/16 or 1/8 oz slip sinker on them. Its really hard to describe my retrieve other than to say it is a a jerky kind of swimming action. I am pretty connected to where and what that worm is doing and I sort of create it as I go. I also fish this way over deep brush and ledges where bass will hold. The whole retrieve may vary a bit as well as the weight used. But the basic thing it is very effective for me at times. Try a big worm on there sometime gramps. Try it over a deep area where a bunch of big bass are holding when they are rising to feed and you may really be in for a surprise. I have done it.

WRENCH---.i think you know who Jane couch is. She is Jody's mother in law. Year before last she got to feeling bad and in a matter of hours was in a coma. They had a camera in her room and the Drs from national center for disease control and st. louis university were all over her for several weeks. I think they sent invesitgator out to the property to collect samples and everything else. She hovered around death for a long time. She recovered but they never did find out what it was but believe it was a tick bite.

How These Fronts Affect Fish - Thoughts?
Old plug replied to Tearin Up Topwater's topic in General Angling Discussion
I have been down on my dock numerous time during periods of thunder and lightning. The bluegills carp and other thing seem to just go on about there business. On LOZ there is plenty of noise going on. I think they ate accustom to it. I have to say on a different lake it may be different. -
How These Fronts Affect Fish - Thoughts?
Old plug replied to Tearin Up Topwater's topic in General Angling Discussion
I think my favorite weather front is rain. You just about cannot keep me off the water. I always do real well in a steady light rain.I think mostly I fish harder because I believe in it. This morning when I was suppose to be on my way to Hermann to work on my daughters house I snuck out and nobody knew I was gone till they figured to look down at the dock. I caught a19 " LMB over 4 lbs. and another 17" that was close to 4 lbs in just a couple of hours. Of course I caught some other stuff when I got in. But what can I say you. You have to feed the addiction. . -
I do not deal in specific lures on here. But you said 90% hookup rate. Well if you do not have at the very least 90% hook up rate on whatever you use you need some practice either with your rod or with bite recognition. With a little tail like is this lure the z-man might be ok but a bit expensive. But if you have it on any lure that you embed the hook or any that it can get embedded in like the sinko types the hook will not come through the soft stretch plastic.
