Looking for good new fishing holes
Old plug replied to Girschwinn's topic in General Angling Discussion
Yeah I agree More so it sounds like you really think anyone on here s fool enough to give up there best fishing spots plus ways and mean so you do not have to work for them like most of us have. All you need to do is be in the right place at the right time doing it the right way. That is the greatest secret there is to fishing. Sounds silly but it is very very true. Now go find out what it truly means. -
Phil what were the walls??? were they oak and at lesst 3/4" by 8? I have turned that stiff into a few things over time. We had a business at one time and sold bord houses at shows. The name was Ozarkian Creations birdtown USA. I got bird houses from Germaany to Califoria. You can turn that old wood into so e beautiful paneling.

I never watch Fishing shows.

You think a real fishing nut might not do something like that ?? I have been out on snow storms that dumped 6 inches of snow in the boat in a short time. Fished with a tornado running over LOZ a 11/2 miles away. Got caught in that one but a normal person could see it coming back off and would have got the heck out of there. Fished through pain more times thah I can count, through a bloody arm from a fish hook, sickness and Have stayed up for 2 days 36 to 48 hrs to fish. First tme I done that I was about 10 yrs old and was on a trip to the famous White Rver ( now under Table Rck ) that time they had to force me to bed. Done it numerouse time to fish Clearwater when we had only had one night shot at fishing. NOPE nothing surprises me when it comes to fshing nuts.

WARFRAT I was not from down there. Mel Janos was however. Thats how I got to know them. We fished clearwater every Sunday night. We went to the same church and after the service would go home eat lunch then about 5pm we would jump in the car and head down to Piedmont Park fish all night and into mid morning before going home. When I got home I would need to baby take care of the baby since my wife bowled on Monday afternoons. So I was up from Sunday morning till sometime in the evening Monday every week. The reason we could do that is Mels barber shop was closed on Monday and I had a job that let me do 10 hrs a day 4 days a week insteat of 40 in 5. It is a wonder we survived the drive back. I think here were times I drove back but do not remember doing it. Very dangerous and silly stuff some of us used to do to fish. John Earnie and Mel were very close they hunted Turkey together. I would not even be surprised if you were familiar with Mel he constantly practicing on a mouth welper. He was state turkey caller champ at one time. John and his wife are both dead. His son took over Webb Creeak for awhile. No idea of what happened to Frankie. I will have to ask Mel Janis about him. Last I heard he was in the St louis area. That sounds strange. Cannot visualize him in a urban setting. He must be closing in on his 70's now. Frankie got in trouble a few times selling frozen crappie and other game and fish. Another name you might know is Red Sandhuff. He fished on some pro cercuit for a little while. He is gone also. Mel is still kicking and cutting hair 3 days a week. near 90 or better now. Last time I fished clearwater was with Mel and my young son. We fished for carp up close to the river and donated them to a local church. I am sure you have heard the expresion " filled the boat". It happened for real when we fished those big carp. The church would grind them and mix them with spices. Stored the patties frozen for many poor familes. Really good eating. My son learned at a early age how to fght a large fish and not panic on light line thanks to those trips. Has served him well since he spends a week every fall down in Florida fshing for sharks from the beach. I Have been solely a LOZ fosherman now for better than 25 yrs. lived here on the lake at the mouth on Mill Creek on the Gravois since 94.

Do not know your age Al but if you haunted the area just below clearwater dam we might have rubbed elbows if your old enough. You ever hear the names John Earnie or Franky Mc Allester.?? In my time John owned Webb Craek boat dock. Frankie was a legendry fisherman in that area area. At that time you could catch some wopping big walleye below that darn in the winter. He caught that big string of bass that they used to display at the boat shows in the region in the Clearwater booth. I have no idea what the stories they were about that sting were. But I and another friend named Mel Janis brought those fish up to St louis to have that mount made. Fankie caught them all on bluegill one evening on a bald hump out off Piedmont park. No idea what that stringer weighed but nothing on here was under 5 and went to right near 9 if I Recall. Frankie had very rare fishing abilitoes. He was so in tuned with the fish he could mentally feel them. I have only met one other person in my life that attuned to the fishing world and that is Wrench. Guys like that have spent there whole life from their days as babes in the crib eating sleeping and living fishing.. At one time there was some some 9 ft saltwater fly rods build like like spinning rods. I made those rods The purpose and design was so that you could gentally cast a minnow out over beds with a minnow under 5 ft or so under the bobber. We had some banner days with that stuff. Think I still might have a pictire of one afternoons catch. have always felt like I was the inverter of the long crappie pole. Hated Kentucky bass in Clearwater. Caight one here on LOZ about 18". Never Caught another even close to that even though I do catch a few every year 15".

I am with any party or other idological group. But I certainly do not support a few of the things the Trump administration is tying to do these past few days. They are doing things it seens to me like they are trying to take over. I thought that right away when all the selectively attacking the press began by trump. The entire news media bends stories. No netowrk is any better. If some want a open war like some of my beighbors around here. Do not be to sure of the outcome on either a national, locale or personal basis. These people need to study history.

They been in Missouri for several years. Story was they were all young mails in transit. I got to wonder. But still o lion pride have een found they say anyway.

QB it is very important that you push that bending on your own. I know its no fun but if its not done aggresively you will never recover fully. I know someone that happened to. She developed some other problem due to it and they had do another surgery. How long ago was that knee done????

Dave I pulled 4 in one day while fishing a partime fisherman friend of mne and his even less experience preacher. In hind site it is a hilarious story. Was even a overboard involved. Last summer a little lady came to the dock just screaming with a hook buried in her finger. She was really scared. Her name was Sally Berry if you know who she is. She is a Bluegrass singer prefrorms with the Rage group and her mother Ronda Vincent. I have removed about a dozen over the last 72 years 3 from myself. One was a big O/5 stainless steel hook on a big single spin. Had a hard time cutting thru. Took awhile and ruined a good pair of pliers. It got me thru the wrist of my casting hand close to that large artery. As it were I was fishing in one of the very few tournament I ever fished. After I got it out I took a hankerchief wrapped and tied it and fished the rest of the day. Sort of a bloody mess ,but in those days I was a lot more franatical than now. Was not about to quit that tournament becaise of that.

Stl County Park Lakes been any good recently?
Old plug replied to Haris122's topic in Other Ozark Lakes
I got to ask what your fishing for in st Louis area. The crappie fishng was about beyond belief out here beginning way back in November. Might still be I have not tried this past week. I just wonder if the longer length of day we have experienced has adjusted ther time clock and put a damper on it. -
I believe that thos time f the year the lengthing day set off ther time clocks and they shft gears.

That would be nice but large trees and all the things that can effect them is gardening on a monster scale. I bet there will be times when he is going to worry for days on end. Squirrels alone could cost him a lot of profit. Just for a start in the Vermin catagory.

I velieve they have run up into Mill Creek a couple yrs ago. That bext spring was the back of the creek was jammed wirh tiny whites.
-
What's bothering me is they are not stating anything about what might happen to water levels. I noted they said most of the construction would be during the week when so as to not interfere with lake activities. Make me suspicious. of how that statement reflects on any statement about water levels. Woulld seem they should have given some kind of assurance statment aboit that.

I get tired of looking at NEW THINGS in fishing. So many of them or just repeats of what has been around for many years. I believe the last great change was the introduction of plastics. I Cannot help but feel like it is a attempt to just rip people off. As far as this hook goes. When I look at that thing I do not see anything that would come clean hooking. Best hooking hooks for the most part are wide gap hooks . There is just to much in the area of that hook point to believe it will hook cleanly I use plastics mostly becaise I can flip amd pitch them. Using plugs and spnners requires a lot of casting and retrieving and it exerts presure both ways on your shoilder. I might be able to do that again soon but I do not want to return to it. On LOZ I never will have to. I learned that except for the force exerted ( most of the time) you guys are stressing your shoulder about as bad as a baseball pitcher. The more you fish and cast the faster your wearing it out. My shoulder lasted well into my 50s after that I had some pain and a lot of trouble with hand going to sleep then later my ability to hit the target got bad.The past two years the shouldef has really not been functional. More than a couple hours of fishing a day was the limit. It can be very a miserable deal. I just want to tell you all if any of you are having these problems Your body is warning you to lighten up. You might not last 76 years as I did. And your recovery might not be as good. We all have different pain levels aswell. In my case It takes a lot. I had surgery for a total reverse replacement 3 weeks ago last Wedensday. The picture is what its like. You would think it would stop me from fishing for the rest of the winter. It did for two weeks. I have ben fishing 4 time off the docks fishing straight down. The problem there is fishing just to be fishing ( catchimg anything or not) has been a addiction my entire life.

Only thing I do not fish is hard baits and heavy baits like crank baits. I have a locker full of plastics. Nearly all in just a couple colors and all sizes. That applies to weights and hooks as well. Maybe you would like to come here amd teach me how to use all that stuff huh. I fish Ktchup. I just not talk about my trips amd tell where when and how, Plus pictures. I could really care less what anyone thinks of it.
