  1. I am limited just about right now to any kknd of casting with my normal left arm. I been doing some practicing with my right arm. Going to MIZZOU onTuesday to see about it. I have about lost most pracical use of it. It ended my season this uear in september. I was really considering giving up the goast about fishing for awhile. It got to the point in september that I could not even hold the rod out for my drop shotting are ate the hook.

I have one system I have been using up here with more success than others for larger bass.  That is my heavy drop shotting. I just bought around 100 zoom magnum trick worms for next season. I hope to be qble to use. Most of the time with them I just drop them straight down in the darkest places I might be able to reach with my 7 ft rod in stalls. Surprising thing is i does not have to be deep and I do Not need to be real snaeky. i think they feel secure under those things.

I'll be praying that they find a fix for your arm at Mizzou and that you'll be back on the water next spring. Sounds like an interesting and effective method with those magnum trick worms. There are some big bass in LOZ and quite a few of them. You just have to get your bait in there where they live, which you have found a way to do. Hang in there with that arm.

  2. I agree with you. This particular officier has a reputaion that spans a pretty good area. He used to be a Laurie Mo cop before he got into the water patrol.
  3. Around LOZ it is 95% flipping and pitching. Ido not like hard cast. i can pitch a 3/8 oz lure 30 ft I m sure using my standard 12lb mono. I like my reels as fast as I can get them. I like to sort of float the bait out to the if you know know what I mean.
  4. Did you send me a msg. It did not ome thruogh. We hace been busy but I hope to recover the fish pics  today. When youlook at notice theposition of my arms. They are back and not out iin front of me. Those fish were aginst my shirt. Iwill try to transfer a clear pic today. The Ipad ws suppose to keeplltht stuff but it deleted about 1/2 of ll my pic. We got 2 ipads and 3 computers in here. Ido not know wht one he has this stashed in.

  5. I looked at Als pic before i read his piece and I guess mine is made mostly like his. I do not remember ever using tht wire in front of it. But it seems like a good idea. injust did not use mine that much. Most of mine were 3/8 oz amd 1/2 oz all around larger a bit than a 1/4.
  6. Mine looked was different in many ways than that of Als. Only thing that was the same is the shape of the head. I made mine in a single spin mold the wire and eye came out the front about 1 1/4 inches.I turned the up at a 45 degree angle amd bent the wire on the arms in such a way that it would slide down the wire and collapse flat. Then when you wanted to use it you would just push the wire up and it would snap into place. I made it that way for storage. i used them on the upper Meramec I sold some and used some but I have alwys been a jig or worm fisherman. But they must have caught fish becuase i got calls for them. Including enough that it drew the attentin of the state tax people who wanted to know if it was a limited hobby and that it was Als othe end of making them.
  7. Believe me we all out here know about this and know about Piercy. He has a bad attititude and has been a real A H with the pyblic and some of his practices. i watched them take the boys body out of the lake i live about 150 yars from the scene.
  8. I made them way back in thc 60s and early 70's they were all bucktail. Sold a lot of them in the St. Louis area. If I was doing it today I would be using different hooks etc. But still bucktail. And your right wrench anything other than bucktail is a mess. Both plastic skirts and long trailors will get fouled in the spinners and frame area. They can snag a lot easier than you think as well. to be truthful I never seen them do all that better than conventional spinners.
  9. laker67------- I think there is soooooo much we do not know about suspended fish are the spawning habits of bass he crappie. I know MDC makes a lot of predictions and estimates from shocking surveys. But they shock round the bank in the fall. I have never heard of them( are think it is possible) shocking 30 or 40 ft deep or deeper. None the less I do see a lot of fish very deep and I am sure the reguler trollers on here must also. Then something happens like that great big striper that wrench and that other guy had that tremendous battle with makes me wonder where did that thing come from to be swimming there in that little tight shallow spot? Where did he live be feed to grow so large? That fish had to be doing something different. I also bet the fish in his diet were mostly about a ft long at least as well.
  10. I will venture to say he caught that crappie in a spot that is just very far out of the normal. The spot I caught my double in way over 40 ft deep devoid of any type brush and I want to say where I caught them I have never caught another crappie before or after there. It was a pure fluke. I was making a retrieve after casting for bass. This last one was in a place closer to what you might expect.. It was defiantly over 16" That makes 3 big crappie in 25 yrs living out here. All 3 in the wrong ( unspecting place ) at the wrong time.
  11. The first two I caught between 17-18 were off a bluff hole point on rogues to my total surprise. I had a picture on here sometime back. I was also on the wall at Osage outdoors a few years ago. They were caught on two cast. Sitting just real shallow in the sun. Water in that spot was over 40ft deep. I was shocked. I had been casting the point and was retrieving measured them on the dock and turned them loose. The one the other evening was in a stall on my dock and was another surprise. In the spring we have some places in a area that have crappie beds that are popular. People come through there all day long catching a few small crappie. But if you get down there about a hour befor dark and stand off and cast out into deepwater you might be surprised. We had one year we caught most were 13 to 14 and a few over 14 inches out of these places. Since that year we have not caught that quality of fish. Maybe we just hit something and took the cream of the crop out of it The thing is We were catching the females that set out there all day and come in and feed for just a short time. Have another place that seems to be some kind of staging area. They catch them there in February by casting off a dock over very deep water with a jig and bobber. Next spring wrench try that staging area. I told you where. Just be sure you tie to the dock and cast out. They are very touchy about things running over the top of them. I would say the chances of catching a crappie over 16 will not be good. My neighbor and his buddy been worKing that hole pretty hard the past couple of years.
  12. I bet the live shad thing encompasses a lot more time than winter on LOZ just about anywhere Amd it does not have to live just very fresh.
  13. They did. As I recall several years back and it was a complete failure. I might be wrong about that maybe it was some walleye pro tried to catch walleye in here and had a terrible time. You remember that wrench.
  14. Not sure what your referring too Paul. I caught one the other day about 1/8 inch short of 17" caught on one of those 1/64th oz jigs . I sent or Mitch a pic of a few made with a ttiny piece of rabbit fur attached to it and a chunk of crappie candy. I caught ironing if those. I posted a pictur at one time of two I caught on consecutive cast with a rogue that both were between 17and 18 inches. Those were the biggest I ever caught in this lake we might have a lot of crappie here but nothing compares in average size with those come out of the Mississippi in the wintertime below Clarksville, Winfield or in the spring on Kentucky Lk or Wapppello back in the day. I think there are a lot more crappie in the 16" range in LOZ you never hear about.
  15. Mark my words Mitch this drone stuff is going to wind up your in the suspreme court as a privacy question.
  16. How about using drones for skeet that's my plan if one stat buzzing me on the lake
  17. Martin is know for tampering. Some years ago he got caught on Truman with bass being hooked to his line that he did not catch then he would land them.I will not watch his show. He does a lot of product cramming on there.
  18. BiLL ..... No gear snob. I have two low profile reels I have been practicing in my yard with one that is a Lew's simply because it is fast but does not like to backlash. Mine are hard to control. Mine are extremely fast I have no type of backlash conTrol. But like I say I could pitch them a easy 30 ft are with even light weight some pretty small stuff on them and 10 lb test. Stuff would kind of just float out there. With me it is 65+ yrs and hard to change. As far as the shoulder goes I was told by a Dr in Jeff city there could not be much done with it. Lot of complications with the rotary cuff from break when I was in my. 20,s I am going to missou about it next month.
  19. Wrench like you I do mostly pitching and flipping. The casting of the line was almost as easy as the left hand right off the bat. the problem came with the pitching mostly. I could pitch 30ft with ease with the left hand. It has been tough to switch to the right pitching. I am short, long high and only tight to the target about 25% of the time. Going to take some practice to make that work even with a low profile.
  20. I have two low profile reels because my shoulders just about non functional. I got them because I went down to the lightest tackle I could find.I fish both of them on 7 ft cherrywood rods. That lasted a couple of years now even that is getting to. Be too much. i only fish about 2 hours a day now at the most. Then it is 99% flipping and pitching I a. Trying to learn to cast right handed. My main opinion on the new reels is that I know someone owns a repair shop. Awful lot of them seem to have problems pretty fast with heavy use.
  21. I seem to see so much on here about all these new reels. On the other hand I have yet to see any that will stand up to the depenadability of the old Garcia round unless If you take time to learn to use one.
  22. I had some pretty good training about hypothermia but that was Close to 60 yrs go when my carrier was spending time way up above the the arctic circle tracking all the Russian doings up there in the Cold War. I do believe your personal atitude has something to do with your survival as well as your body fat.
  23. This story is entirely true and took place about 15 years ago. It covers two outings in two consecutive days. It all began because I told a friend there were a lot of bass being caught in the evening of points on top waters. He called the next day and wanted to go and bring his preacher who would love to have a evening of that. I told him "you know my little 17ft fish and ski does not have much room. Just bring along a couple rods and a couple top waters and that is all you really need". Well here they come the with duffel bags full of equipment and a handful of rods. Remembering to mind my manners I stuffed all that stuff in the boat. We set out we fished about 15 minute and the preacher hollers "I got one " totally blowing his cool and roared back on the rod so hard he pulled the hook out of the basses mouth. Of course it cane flying back at us where it lodged itself in my friends forearm. I got my stuff out cut the hook off and removed it from my friends arm leaving the back treble one hook short. We decided to continue fishing. We hit a couple points caught 2 or 3 small bass. Then the preacher hooked another one. Guess what ? Same thing as before except this time he stuck the hook in his own arm. I clipped another hook off the treble and removed from it the preachers arm. After that things calmed down for about 45 minutes. Then we started fishing a very sheer bluff. The water there was 80 feet or better right under the boat. Well the preacher made a cast and his plug came off. He was standing on the back corner of the boat hollaring "my plug my plug " l said " don't worry we will back up next pick it up. " So I got up from the front seat and and in one smooth motion turned on the ignition tripped on the bags of assentinals fell on the shift lever slamming the thing into full forward gear. The preacher he went flying off the back of the boat right into thel lake. I quickly shut down and backed up to where he went in. All the we could see was bubbles rising. I ask my friend" does he know how to swim" my friend on said " I dunno" and just nonchlontly shrugged his shoulders. About that time here comes the preacher kicking his way to the surface. Holding his hat on with one hand be his shoes in the other. Needless to say that was the end of tht trip. The next day I was relating this to my neighbor who was in his 70's at that time. He said he had not been out with a top water in a couple of years. So I told him we would go out that evening. We started out by going downtown Inspertion Point at the mouth of the Grvois. I case anyone is not familia with Inspertion Point. It is a larg outdoor church built on the point at th mouth of the Grvois. When we got there my neighbor started to tie on a old style devil horse with 3 tiny treble hooks on it. So as he tying it on HE DROPS IT INTO HIS CROTH. I shouted "do not move" I could see all three trebles sticking in his pants. So I got down there on my knees with my head stuck between his legs and got it out. He points over my shoulder and I turned and looked. There was the church filling up for a service and we were the center of attention.
  24. Not to worry She refuses to starve. Chip off the old bloc or something.
