  1. Dtrs------ The purpose of the 7 ft rod is I can flip and pitch a long ways with a minimum of effort. That is the most important thing. Arthritis is what it is all about. Lets just say I got my share and your too. When I go out with my really large worms and do the things I do with them. I got 2 61/2 foot rods I really like for that. I used to fish about 250 to 300 days a year. That now is about 120 days and only a few hours a day at that. i fished last fall till fist week of october I had to hold my arm on the at my side and use nothing but my hand to cast then it got so I could not set the hook and I stopped for the year. really nothing more than a old fishing bum.
  2. I wood give it a try.
  3. I just use my 7 ft spinning rod for that light stuff. All the other stuff I do on a 6 1/2 bait casting rod. I spend at least 90% of my time fishing unweighted and lightly waited plastic worms. I should add when I go behind docks and over cables with wacky worm and such the spinning rod is put away. I use a 7 ft medium action rod with a very fast reel on it to pitch . back of docks is a bad place to use a light action rod. I use 10 or 12 lb test on the bait casting outfit.
  4. OH SHITE Blazerman. Is that coming this week end. ??????? They might be hitting it right if this rain were suppose to get is warm. I think the water temperate is still pretty low. I was down on the dock trying to learn to cast my new cast net And just like the old one I make a mess of it. But the new one is 3 1/2 foot. And I can cost it just by holding it up and wide between my two arms and letting it fly. I hope to get out tomorrow afternoon. I do not have the go get um I used to have by no means.
  5. Warfrat you in a pretty early spot up there. You are close to the river and also a large spring. Around here you will see a lot of eggs in a crappie In December sometimes. I think fish can hold their eggs till the time is right. The length of day and the suns position thru the day has a lot to do with it. Black crappie rule the Gravois. But we do see more white than we used to. 15 yrs ago a white was a rarity around here. Wrench was cleaning up on Blacks last week. They were all pretty big. I was up in his area though and went back in a cove because of the wind and caught a pile of 5 in White Crappie. They just seem to have seasonal territories. Down here the best way to catch the better crappie after the spawn is to Troll the channel. They and white bass both are channel hugger all summer. Sometimes you will be catching both. The best troller I know uses both plugs and the BPS little tail spinner. I got some of those Little tail spinners, although I do not troll. They are real good and not because of the color are anything like that. They are made with a flattened fish shape body with the majority of the weight in the bottom. Most true running spinner tail I have ever used. That Mann's will roll and twist your line a lot.
  6. Blazerman------- I did not say they were going to be on the beds this weekend I said I do not like the practice of taking them off the beds. I will know when the crappie ready to spawn. I and my neighbors have 200 ft of crappie beds between 3 docks.
  7. dtrs------- I have necer heard of such a thing a as a weightless worm rod. what is suppose to be the advantage of that. ????
  8. Are they talking about total replacement ????? We just went thru a total replacement of a couple bridges here and in neither case was there a total closure closure of the a bridge. when the new one was done. They directed the traffic over the new bridge. Only time there was a total closure was for a couple hours every time they blew up a section of the old bridge. That was three times. They can add lanes to without much interruption.
  9. I agree with you Feathers----- do need skilled craftsman. we do not all have the high IQ to become a scientist. But most of us are smart. A self employed welder can become rich on a place like LOZ. Self employed people in the trades can do very very well. So there is places for everyone but they all have to have basic reading and math skills.
  10. WHARFRAT------- There is awful lot more 10 to 13 inch bass in this lake than 19" bass to begin with. It is like that anywhere. With Bass I do not like the practice of taking them off spawning beds. I refuse to do it. I do not care how big the bass is on that bed. I know the minute that bass is yanked the little bluegill will descend like a cloud on that bed and eat the eggs.
  11. Smalievigs------ Hope you have a nice time. but at the current level you better be careful where you fish that A rig around docks. There is just loads of brush down there. I an my neighbors have about 200 ft of crappie beds spanning 3 docks they are pretty close to the surface right now as well.
  12. Mitch is this Kumon in the training in St Charles. I want to tell my son about it. I hope however my granddaughters go to Catholic School. Mt son graduated from Francis Howell when I lived up there in Saddle Brook.
  13. I have spent many hours on the Mississippi especially up in the Clarksville area. I has been years. But back then you could catch a mix of walleye and sauger to fill a ice chest in the winter. Lots of white bass but I really prefer the little yellow bass for table fare. Crappie.!! I have always said the Mississippi has to be one of the premier spots in all of Missouri to catch crappie and for size as well. There is also a lot of bass fishing available. There used to be be a big shallow Lilly pad field field just up from Clarksville dam. I had a friend that caught a monster there in water so shallow you could not put the motor down. I am not sure now but I think it was 9 lbs. As far as cat fish my biggest was 43 lbs. I never really targeted them. Largest I ever seen caught was 87 lbs. It is a wonderful place up there. Clarksville was number two on my retirement list. Anyone who wants to fish the Mississippi should throughly understand and respect large barges and towboats. They are like trains on dry land they cannot turn and they cannot stop worth a dam. They can even be parked and still eat you alive.
  14. What are the demensions of these stickers I am wondering.
  15. Sounds like a lot of us you got your family first. That is a very honorable thing and what were created for. It is easy to burn out on the competitive stuff. Especially this day in age where being the best might not mean your going to wind up in the pro levels. Myself I did not even consider it till I was in my late 50' took me about 4 or 5 tournaments to decide that was not the fishing I grew up with and have never been in one since.
  16. last 5 ft rod I owned was stainless steel. most of you have never even seen one. guide were welded one.
  17. river dog here is what you do if you find one. turn the rod upside down ( guides up) then place the tip in the floor at about a 45 degre angle and press down on the handle watch how the rod bends is the up end bends easy and pretty fast then the lower part becomes stiffer fast as you press down the rod is a fast. tip rod with most of the fighting power in the in the lower part of the rod. feel the ben and decide it that will manage for your fishing. I look at one and I though was a fast top and it is made with good quality cork grip handle All of them in that series are.
  18. Riverdog ---- I am wondering if you went and looked at the Ugly Stiik PRO LITE that 5 ft long one piece rod. they are hard to find and around here some models of that series just fly off the racks, So do not wait to long to to look at them at your local Walmart. As a example there were about 1/2 dozen 7 ft of the 7 ft casting rods on the rack at Walmart in Osage Beach.we were there on a Monday and I thought i might buy another one but would wait till we made our usual the next Monday. As it turned out we had to go over the following Friday. so I intended on buying one then. They were all gone.
  19. wrench practically lived on that river as a youth
  20. Its not the curve. I did not say a thing about lowering. The company that built that the bridge had to destroy the old pillars to a depth off 6 ft below winter pool. They were not going to allow the lake to rise above winter pool until they were finished doing that. What I said has nothing to do with the draw down it has to do with the letting it rise past winter pool until it was finished. I went that way yesterday and did not see the cranes so maybe they are done. They used the term grind them down to 6 ft below the winter pool. That sounds like something might have taken us past the 1 of April. That is what we were told.
  21. Tell you what go to the stores etc and pick the rods up off the rack and test them. See if they have the action your looking for. That is the only way I know to really find something you want. It does not need to be expensive or brand name. I have seen some cheap rod last many many years.
  22. I do not belong in here Im, partly jewish.
  23. I am sorry Mitch I can sense from your post you were pretty involved with your Mother.
  24. thats always expensive but I have seen them torn from there moorings and shoved up ion the bank. they can pull down a see wall when they do that as well. That could have ben ice. We had some fearsome wind as well a week or so ago. that might have done that. I have seen strong wind flip docks. Where is what you call shooters cove. I never remember those things.
  25. I have caught everything that swims in frsh water on a noght crawler. I also have never caught 25 real fish on any sort of arificail worm. Ther is bo such animal. Remember a night crawler have a fresh live sent and it work. you can keep them beter in the summer time but sutting a lot of ice in the bedding. Inhave even seen them kept in Ice water in the summer.
