I am not sure what to say Justin.i just made a couple post and so did wrench about these systems. It was on a thread called looking for a guide. I think whatever you do do it in the shallower water above 15 ft. Unless we get a big drop then they might leave the shallows. But we are suppose to have rain. Get out in that also if you can. Maybe the same places you fished last time will be hotter this time i am pretty sure. More water up there and a lot if shad using the area. I might be up there sometime this week myself. Possibly tomorrow afternoon.

Well I am going to tell it and before do I want to explain something. It was best evening this year. I fish alone almost all the time. I do catch my share of large bass but it s almost impossible for me to get a self picture. I do have this IPad but the pictures are hard to take with a long rod in the boat, but it looks like that is what I am going to have to do. Ok. every time I go fishing I am always looking for that 5 lb bass( 21" long or better) I do not do catch that many but I enjoy the thrill and anticipation of hoping the next one might be a big one. I do not think of myself as a lunker hunter. In a normal year though I will catch 8 - 10 over 5lbs. This year I had caught only 4. It was a little depressing. Well this evening I was fishing in the shallow end of a large cove. I caught a couple small bass and then caught a one slightly over 22 " long on the corner of a dock. I fished a bit more then crossed the cove to a large commercial dock that was standing in shallow water. I fished around around the dock and rounded a corner and seen a large pipe sticking down on the dock that helps stabilize it. I pitched the worm over there and it never hit bottom and I caught another bass 21 1/2 inches long. One more thing is I do not put bass in a live well in warm weather. That is why no pictures and I imagine a lot of doubt about it. But the number is now 6 and not 4 I might make my average yet.

Gar are awful plentiful this past few years everywhere it seems. I have been fishing for them here on LOZ. I have caught several from 40 to 48 inches long. I have seen some bigger ones roll. I love the fight they put up. I will start jigging for catfish soon. I have caught my share share of 20lb and up doing this. The conditions have to be right and those conditions relate to feeding white bass. Something we have not had much of in my arm of the lake for sometime.

I need a cheap camera for my boat. It has to have a delay so that i can take pictures of myself. Or some kind of remote button. I fish by myself and there are times I would like to take pictures for no other reason than to back up a claim. Anyone have any suggestions. I have a IPad but it takes poor pictures outdoors and it is hard to hokd a fish and use a long rod to work the shutter.

I use a texas rig. I have bullet weights from 1/16 to 3/8, i also have some split shot. This past week I was fishing my one worm with a tiny split shot on it. Swimming and dancing it around docks. Did fine earlier in the week did terrible a day or so before the rain and have had to stay close to the house since it started to help a widow neighbor lady clean up her flooded lower level. But I am going within 45 min I will be GONE.

I like the Johnson sprite a lot better. It has a fine flutter to it

I would imagine you fish a lot of different lures. I do not. Right now there are 5 made up rods in my boat. 4 with plastic worms on them . All of the worms are 11" or better 3 or brownish color and one is blue. That one is a ring worm they have all those ridges and they really go down slow. They all or on 14 lb test and weighted differently. The other one is a small spinning rod set up with 10 lb test line and has no relationship to bass fishing. it has a rope lure on it for Gar. The later is just in case things are slow and I see some rolling. Like big catfish they are a poor mans salt water experience. I hope you can see from this my attention is focused on how the worm sinks. What I am trying to do with all this is get as gentle presentation as I can. The deeper I have to go the the more weight I add. If i do touch brush I want to play my worm through. In a natural way with as little disturbance to the brush as possible.

Its funny all the lure coming up. Just yesterday I cleaned house on my lures. I loaded 3 big plastic boxes with stuff and put them away to hopefully go to some future generation. I have grand daughter no boys in the line of the next generation. But I am sure some somewhere down the line my genes will get involved and someone is going to give birth to a fishing bum. I do not use crank baits much and they were the first ones went in the box. I am a jig and worm man and not much of anything else. There are so many ways and variation to using those two alone that I have little use for anything else. I think of all the baits these are the jigs are the most effective and versatile of all followed by plastic worms. But I do like some top waters during short times. I know that buzz big bladed buzz baits are very good. But myself I do not like to cast them. You will not find a rainbow of color in my locker either. I think in the vein if either light or dark.

You can say that again Wayne. Rivers are like women. They change a lot. Knew a old guy when I was young fished the Mississippi a lot up in the Clarksville area . He would tell you time and again you know the river now. You do not know what her she will be tomorrow. I would think after high water there is no truer words even on small streams. I have a great great respect for things like root wads. You go down in one of those things and it will pull you in life vest and all.

Well as far as running over jugs on purpose. If he does that much it is destruction of private property and he can be arrested for it. Then again maybe by using 1/4 inch nylon cord line on on the jug for the first say 10 ft might cause the guy a lot grief.

It has caught some small catfish the first time I tried on a hump that us 30 ft deep. This spoon is the one PBS sells under the name of Flashy Times and it is 3/4 oz. it has a slight configuration difference than say a dare devil. But both are teardrop spoons. If you got a tear drop spoon just take it and reverse the hook setup and see what happens. Thats how we find out things.

Well said Mr Wrench. The worm thing is something I do a awful lot I think you know that. Fishing a plastic worms is what I do. I can verify when that system Wrench is talking about with the worm is working you might experience some of the best fishing of a lifetime. The past two years I did that over fish suspended 25 to 30 ft deep over channels. I would go out in the evening and I could see them rising to feed on bait fish about 10 ft down. I would just make long cast and work it ever so slowly. I had 2 of the finest seasons I ever had. This year for some reason that particular way of using the system is the pits. I have only caught 4 bass 21" or better (5 lbs) this year ( mostly because of stubbornness) and none of them came over deep channels. All my bass this year were more on the shallower dock corners and over( not on or in) brush piles. Though the water is shallower the basic system is the same. Sometimes I have no weight over than the hook itself. As a example I caught a 20" bass just a week or so ago off the back corner of a dock in water only 3 ft deep using a unweighted worm.

Bagnell Flood Gates Open

I know the COE is suppose to control everything. But that does not tell me they have enough sense to do it properly. I have seen times when truman was full of water and we were real low down here and they did not do it. A lot of people around the lake do not like the way the corp manages the water flow between the two lakes. I am one of them. -
AL as far as flood plains go you cannot even trust the recirds. Here at LOZ in that part falling in Morgan county someone changed a lot if the lot elevations in the books. I was told I needed flood insurance and the house elevation is more than 10 feet above the top of the Dam. At the same time there is a flat area at the back of the next cove that I have myself seen water in before it was developed and they are suppose to above the flood plain. I am very suspicious if those alterations. Of course fouled up records in Morgan County are the more the norm than the exception.

The management is different also Wayne. The merger that created Armens included Central Illinois Power Company. I have had experience with them on Lk Coffeen in Ill. They owned that lake and it was as large as clearwater in Mo. They did not like people using the lake. I remember one time they went so far as to have it patrolled and were arresting people for fishing etc. Illinois tried to get it opened and they refused to even discuss it with them. It is open now however I believe. They have a different attitude than Union Electric had. That is what causes some if the heated problems around LOZ -
How These Fronts Affect Fish - Thoughts?

Rain is something I got a mind set for. I do well in a rain a lot of the time. I have had it both ways with anything out that nature does. Thats why I guess just fish and not pay any attention to anything else. -
Recently i bought 2 3/4 oz spoons that resemble a daredevil. They were the PBS brand. Well I knew right away I was taking a chance. But I was on the upper end if my spending budget and was telling myself a spoon is a spoon. Well I took them home and and both on a dead drop and retrieve they spun like a single pin at the slightest provocation. I hated the darn things. I expect my spoons to flutter. I got to tinkering around and reversed the set up. I took the hook and put it on the split ring you tie you line to and tied my line to the end where the hook should be. It really made a a world of difference. It has a real fine flutter now and a nice wobble on retrieve. Just wanted to submit this if anyone has a cheap spoon like this that will not preform well.

I know that Jerry i have lived here for over 20 yrs but i can remember during the flood of 93 (if I recall the year right) the water crested and shot back up at St Charles and they blamed a release from here. At that time i had this house here and the water was over my ramp way and several of my neighbors as well. There was some other flooding that happened since then and the release from LOZ was blamed for but it was on the Osage that time. I just wondered if we were in that kind of situation again -

Jerry it depends on the down stream I thought there might be a lot of pressure on the Missouri. they released to much water here one time when the Missouri was up and cause flooding in St Charles. -

Your real sure of that right. -
I fish alone about 95% of the time. I fish 1000% better alone. Ido not like to be competitive fishing to me is all about pleasure.

I buy that even less than the front stuff. If you take that to mean the fishing will be better because of a high pressure system. Well maybe it will and maybe it wont but the thing is it does not tell you what they will be biting on or where. So go fish and forget about all this stuff. Only two changes I know that are fairly consistent are day break and pink up times. And then you better not depend on them. -
I thought goodies was closed.

They need to be careful with that. It is real easy for LOZ and Truman to contribute to down stream flooding. I would say right now it would be very very easy. -
It was not political post. Congress has not approved enough money to run a whole lot of things so its is money. Not being there for it.
