  1. I thought it looked like rainbow numbers were down and there are more big browns than there have been in a while. Any word on the overall biggest fish they shocked up by chance?
  2. no you don't, both of these were caught on flies basically. I just thought it would be fun to try and catch one on a swimbait. I've gotten kind of hooked on them for big bass and I kind of consider a big brown that kind of a deal too. where do you guys think these fish spend most of their year? I'm guessing deep water below fall creek, probably from trout hollow down to the monkey island area. Maybe in the brushpiles/laydowns or even deeper? do we think there are big ones like this down below the landing? I know in fishing down well below the landing that there are a lot of smaller bait fish, bluegill, crappie, shad, small trout etc. I wonder if some of these giants are down that way with such an easy meal so readily available and deeper water? Kind of hope Phil chimes in.
  3. I agree and I've started to slowly experiment with throwing big swimbaits when I'm down there. Nothing on them yet and hard to stick with them long when your only down there a couple times a year too. I think a Huddleston would be the best bet but it's a soft plastic so can't be thrown in the trophy area but might be good to try in the summer along deeper bluffy type banks. I want to keep trying and experimenting though. i'll be down 9 days at thanksgiving so I'm hoping to dedicate more time to them then although I'm not sure where would be a good place to start that time of year for browns, not sure if they are done and headed back down or not.
  4. I think he said something like 33 inches long and 21 1/2 inch girth or something along those lines. I would almost bet it's from the same year class and stocking as the last one caught which according to Phil is only 6 years ago.
  5. Another giant caught today
  6. $20tyd
  7. Devan the bluff across from lilleys used to ne my best stretch for jerkbaits, atleast in the summer it was. With the browns moving uo this time a year im not sure though currently.
  8. Duane Doty will probably be along in a bit with a great answer. Ive always had more success throwing them on bluff banks when they are running water. Big Rapalas were always my staple but last week i threw a Megabass. Not a ton of bites but its sure worth it when they do hit it. As far as followers...thats about half the fun to me. Frustrating at times but man you can see some big ones that way! Here is a couple from last week.
  9. $22 tyd
  10. Only 6 years old? Seriously how exciting is that and for the future of Taney??? Oh my goodness!
  11. I just saw on Brett Rader's facebook that his client caught a 24.6 pound brown today!
  12. I had several beautiful brownies yesterday on a stick bait. Man they are so much to catch that way!
  13. Thank you for a great informative reply. I appreciate it. We are comin down later in the week and may focus from short creek to cooper creek instead of look out to fall creek for the reasons above.
  14. Phil, Does is the oxygen level affected more towards to the dam than other parts of the lake? What I mean by that is the oxygen level perhaps lower up above say "trophy run" than it would be say down by the bluffs across from your place? I was thinking maybe the deep water and just more water in general may stay the same more and be less affected than it was in the shallow more narrow waters in the upper reaches? Or does it effect the entire lake?
  15. I was in the same "boat" as you earlier this year. I finally made the jump, after research I bought some Costa's with the 580P Green lenses. Easily one of the best buying decisions I've made as far as fishing equipment goes. They are simply awesome and I couldn't be any happier!
  16. I would like to try the night bite from a boat some time, probably in the short creek area. I've often wondered if they would hit jigs then. I'm not sure they could see them so I am a little doubtful.
