I'm at the bottom of the chain !! NO MORE RAIN !!! BS is already 4' higher than last week
-
I looked at a few places this morning but it's just too muddy to see anything. I've not seen anyone with any yet either. Any day now...
-
bass were just sitting there right at the surface in that warmer water facing the current coming in , I'd throw about 10' away from them twitch it a couple times and they would swim over and one would grab it on top.Fun, but after hooking up on one fish it spooked the rest and I'd have to look for another spot. Kinda got onto that bite too late in the day , Had been using suspenders almost the whole time w/o mch action.. Then I boated 3 fish in the last hour when I switched back to the floater again.
-
just re-spooled my swimbait reels w/ fresh line and sharpened the hooks on all of them last week because I had a feeling it was getting close to that time of year again congrats on the pb Richy !
-
Fished from noon until 6:30pm around pt1,2 &3 areas. First topwater fish of the year! Managed to find only 3 keeper smallies , and 3 short largemouth on susp. and floating rogue in the backs of pockets, cuts and coves where runoff water was running into the lake.A few were suspended just under the surface and would grab that floating rogue right on top ! Saw a couple decent small schools of largemouth cruising quickly down the bank heading out of the coves as if they were late for an appointment or something.

very cool ,congrats to the winners !

love that water color! Nice job! man I had to work yesterday, everybody I talked to had a great day on the water too, quite a few limits weighed in the local tournaments also
-
bigger hooks and add a snap to the front will add weight, takes quite a few lead strips to get a floater to susp. bigger hooks are heavy enough just have to experiment with sizes some of myfloating minnows mods have 3 diff siized hooks on the same bait to get the thing to susp, other have just one size bigger set and some lead strips, others have just 2 big hooks w/ the third hook removed it's not easy to get floaters to susp. lots of trail and error
-
did you try working the bait faster? , that happened to me on Wed.I could see them come up during the pause near the boat and just nip at my jb or I could barely feel them lightly bite it, or just knock the the crap out of it w/o getting a hook like their mouths were shut , and I wasn't getting good hook ups, switched to a no pause, constant fast twitch retrieve like you see KVD doing all the time, and they would just inhale it ! Fish were hot, they wanted to chase. we would be amazed at how many bites we actually get on a sticker that we never feel or see
-
if water is running into it its darn good, I caught a lot of fish in there one day bass, slimers, crappie after a hard rain
-
may have to come out of retirement for this one..thanks for posting
-
me too, I had to work, maybe someone will take some pictures and post them up i bet after that rain the little creeks that are running into the backs of pockets and coves would be loaded with bass today

How to make it work There is really no wrong way to fish the rigs. Kehde has developed 6 presentations, which all have a time and place. According to Guido Hibdon, most finesse anglers use too heavy of a jig because they want to feel it traverse across the bottom. He believes that these baits perform more naturally when paired with lighter weights. Kehde stresses that this technique is a “no-feel” presentation, and it takes time to develop an angler’s feel for the rig. Swim, glide and shake: When fish are feeding more aggressively, Kehde utilizes the swim, glide, and shake retrieve. This technique consists of casting your rig out and letting it fall to the bottom before beginning your retrieve. While the bait falls to the bottom, Kehde shakes his rod lightly to employ more action. After it hits the bottom, he shakes and reels his rig back to the boat, while trying to keep it 6-12 inches off the bottom. If it gets too far off the bottom, he will let it drop again and start over. Kehde notes that this is a good retrieve for suspended fish as well. Straight swim: This retrieve is pretty obvious. Kehde likes to keep his rod tip down with a slow-paced retrieve when he fishes around submerged vegetation and weed beds. For this technique, Kehde generally prefers baits with some tail action, such as a small grub or swimbait, but he doesn’t hesitate to throw any of his other options. Drag and shake: When the fishing is a bit tougher, or if the bass are bottom-oriented, Kehde opts for the drag and shake presentation. It is very similar to working a shaky head; Kehde keeps the bait on the bottom, while pulling and shaking the small plastic with his rod. “We were watching Shiniki Fukae at an FLW tournament a few years ago, and noticed how much he likes to shake his rod while working finesse plastics,” Kehde said. “Since that day, we began to shake our rigs much more aggressively and to much success.” Drag and deadstick: When the fishing is at its toughest, and the bass are in a very lethargic mood, Kehde chooses to deadstick his rig. He simply casts the bait out, lets it settle to the bottom, and deadsticks it for 3-5 seconds before dragging the bait a few feet. He then lets it settle and deadsticks it again. A great way to fish in colder water. Hop and bounce: When the bass are keying on crayfish and other underwater crustaceans, Kehde prefers to use the hop and bounce retrieve. He lets it hit the bottom like the other retrieves. Then, he makes two turns of the reel handle, lets his bait settle to the bottom again and repeats all the way back. Stroll: When Kehde is trying to cover a large flat or an area where the bass are spread out, he likes to “stroll” his rig. This retrieve requires the trolling motor. Let the bait settle but let the trolling motor or wind do the work until the bait is directly behind the boat, when you reel it in and make another cast. These are the presentations that Kehde has utilized over his many years, but there is no wrong way to fish it. “Try it for yourself, and find a way that you feel comfortable catching fish,” said Kehde. http://wired2fish.scout.com/story/1473427-have-you-fished-the-ned-rig-for-bass

bank or boat? tightline some powerbait is what everybody i see there does off the bank i like small rooster tails brown or black and 3" rebel minnow the little "pond" there by the ramp is good fishing after a rain like last night if i were in a boat i'd troll w/ small cranks or spoons good luck

nice looking baits 5bites,risto raps are great cranks, I can hardly wait for Spring, I have to paint outside so the weather has to be "painter friendly'

bluff I would have bet you'd be throwing a susp. sticker since it's been the "go to" lure on BS since late Dec. yes, this grub pattern works on BS , Beaver, and Norfork too, but you have to drive around and look for trees with bass or shad in/around them before you ever make a cast. If they aint there, move on. I'd rather spend a few hours if needed, looking w/ electronics to find a huge school of bass, rather than spend the day spot hopping hoping for a bite which is what the majority of people do. Imo it's the only way to catch them consistently year round on BS is use your eyes to find the prize, good luck -

WT warming to upper 40's or more in some spots 654.63 5-7:30pm Theodosia Area Had some new susp. jerkbaits to try out and they worked great for these BS bass ! The bass fishing has been very challenging the last few weeks. Hopefully it will get a little easier in the near future. So yesterday eve after about an hour and a half of scanning/searching areas where they had been, I figured out they were susp. shallow out in the middle of the lake, and lots of them! (see screen pic) Couldn't find anything near the bank or anywhere else. Boated plenty of short bass and had a dozen keepers, several lmb in the 3lb class w/ a few spots 12-14" on the new sticks. Got a nice 18" walleye right at dark was a bonus but let her go too. Wonder where they will be today?

quillback, the pre spawn stuff were you up the river, creeks or main lake? i'm not famaliar with the BIgM area but I'd think you'd need to be where the water warms first there. Found 54 degree Wt on BS yesterday in the North East corners creeks/coves of the lake where it warms quickly before the deeper mid/main lake. I'd look offshore near migratory routes w/ a susp. jb. for susp. fish in the 5-12' zone. It's been a crazy week on BS. They have been all over the place this month,a lot of guys I know are struggling to get bit, but I've still managed to catch close to 100 largemouth and spots over the past few weeks. What really helps me is to look and search w/ the finder before I even wet a hook. Spend the time to find them first. I would have never fished where I found them yesterday eve had I not seen them on the screen first. thanks for the report QB, looking forward to your next

I caught one 18" keeper yesterday just after sundown trolling a jb then nothing, just like you said.
