  1. for what it's worth here's a tip Greg Hackney shared with me about fishing jigs , finesse or heavy . "If you're NOT using offset or kirbed hooks you're not catching as many fish as you should be". I make my finesse heads with offset Eagle Claw lil nasty hooks. They are 90 degree hooks and I have NO trouble hooking up. you can make about any hook "offset" reversed or kirbed by bending the hook point 3 degrees to the side, left or right kirbed hooks have better hook up ratio because the point does not get deflected by the hook shank
  2. http://gallupmap.com/lake-maps/ makes a nice framed map of Bull if your looking for something to hang on the wall and can't find anything else.
  3. man, i wouldn't trust a navionics map of Bull for accurate info. their depths and contour lines are about the only thing you can rely on
  4. last year we found them in areas of the lake we had never caught any before, had to adapt to new water size was a suprise, lots of 5-7 lb fish most were caught a lot shallower than "normal" too after the spawn, fish were being caught less than 25' most of the summer good luck this year!
  5. it's been many years ago, and i don't recall the guides name we had, but your guide sounds like a guy we hired for a full day. He was 35 minutes late and was not properly dressed for cold weather imo. The first spot we stopped produced a 20lb. striper. After that fish was put in the box the guide took the rod away from me with my bait still in the water, reeled in all the other lines, and we made a long run up/down ...somewhere, and never caught a fish the rest of the day...He hardly spoke to us, was impatient at times, almost rude when we asked questions. That afternoon I asked him why we left the first spot , he said "Most of my clients are happy with just one fish".(even though there were 2 of us fishing ). I noticed everywhere we went after we left that first hole I never saw bait or fish on his electronics. He knew he was in the wrong spots all day...I got fed up with his bs and asked if we could please go back to the place we started. His reply was "I've got several trips coming up, I'm saving those fish for later this week." I told him what i thought of his service..
  6. Fish24/7 has finesse heads too..
  7. zebras are foul little creatures who pollute the waters with their waste , and their body contains even more pollutants this waste sits on the bottom contaminating the food source for bottom dwelling aquatic critters .. i feel sorry for those bass who dig through the zebra covered rocks to find craws, OUCH! this is a serious issue, we should take note As significant filter feeders, zebra mussels may increase human and wildlife exposure to organic pollutants such as PCB's and PAHs. Early research shows that zebra mussels can rapidly accumulate organic pollutants within their tissues to levels more than 300,000 times greater than concentrations in the environment. Through the introduction of another invasive aquatic fish, the round goby into Lake Erie, the problem of contaminants up the food chain have been exacerbated---the gobies prey primarily upon zebra mussels, and then, they in turn are preyed upon by smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, rock bass, and walleye, which angler catch and eat. These contaminants can be passed up the food chain so that any fish or waterfowl consuming zebra mussels will also accumulate these organic pollutants. Likewise, human consumption of these same fish and waterfowl could result in further risk of exposure.
  8. looks like they made it to theodosia found this rock about 50' from the launch
  9. I'm looking forward to some more water, 660's in the brush
  10. at 8.7 ounces, it's a bit too heavy for my taste still a good reel with good reviews at a great price
  11. Quillback, man I would have never left that first spot, that was a mistake imo. there were more fish to be caught there if you had stuck around longer I'm surprised you left a bank that has been productive for you this week The bite turns off just as quick as it turns on this time of year. There are short feeding sprees during the course of the day. Gotta be patient. You have the hardest part figured out .. Location .
  12. thanks for the post water is warmer this week I see
  13. duckydoty should change his name to "thefabulist"
  14. fun day ! thank you
  15. thank's for the info guys
  16. probably some will, if the lake level comes up a couple feet I'd look for whites, they like rising water and tend to gravitate to the source of it. A couple weeks ago there were still some whites in the backs of major creeks so those fish will probably enjoy a fresh drink if they are still around. The runoff was not very muddy so that's a plus
  17. thanks dewayne, nice to hear about all the eagles, I have not seen any where i usually do this time of year.
  18. just took a drive around spring creek, theodosia, pontiac ,big creek areas. ALL the little creeks are pretty much bank full now. Lots of fresh water coming in in the backs now.
  19. it's fairly clear ,visibility was 7-8' w/o sun. Largemouth bass usually look pale when you catch them deeper than 15' and on the bottom in winter
  20. WT 45- 46 654 cloudy and rain First trip of the New Year! Spent just a few hours on the pond yesterday. Weather stunk but the bite was pretty good. Threw my favorite lure when it's cold 1/2 oz fb jig. Bites came in 18-22 fow and were so light you just lost feel of the bait. Had maybe 9 bites ,caught 7, and they were all like this one. Was able to get a pic of one in between rain drops. All were put back. http://i1289.photobucket.com/albums/b512/wakywurms/1215bass1_zps1c298f59.jpg
  21. sweet day
  22. yep, unless those gulls are dive bombing the buffet they could easily be 100yds or more from the school at times.
  23. right, maybe not always bass, but you can bet some kind of fish is down there munching on bait. pay more attention to loons than gulls. Gulls fly around too much and will sometimes scatter. Loons are always in a particular "area" and that's where you want to be.
  24. day well spent, better luck next time
  25. nice rangerman thank you
