    What's Cooking?

Made a small chocolate cake from scratch last night. Vanilla buttercream frosting too. If there's any left this morning , I'll share a pic of my dessert. I didn't look yet today. It was a gorgeous cake, no cracks, baked perfectly! I'm not much of a dessert maker so whenever the stuff turns out really good Im relieved
  4. I've reached out a few times. It's been days without a reply now. I guess nobody reads emails there. really don't want to call them because I hate talking to customer service representatives . Most of the time, with a lot of companies, you get somebody in India or Pakistan, even when the company is located in the US,and they usually have a very strong accent lol. I don't want any more of their Shi* zippers anyway 🤬😁
  5. Man, it's cold this morning! Thank God I don't have any plants outside yet 🤪 freezing 27°. They are ready for transplant though whenever Spring decides to stay. Looks like I'll have about 13-15 tomato plants and 4-5 pepper plants this year . Hopefully this is the last cold snap. I want to get these plants in the dirt asap otherwise won't have any maters till August if this cold crap keeps up! It takes 85- 90+ days to grow a Belgium pink..
  6. Well, about 6 months ago I bought two small double sided tackle bags made by Flambeau. I don't know the model, it's a two sided small bag about 10x10". One bag has my panfish stuff in it. The other has misc.bass tackle I take with me when I fish from shore. Here's the deal, the zippers suck! Both bags the zipper teeth just crumble and fall off now and you cant zip up the bags shut anymore. I have to use a heavy duty rubber band to keep them closed now. For what they charge for a little bitty tackle bag, like $30, you'd think the zippers would work. Read the reviews online about Flambeau and bad zippers before you buy, I wish I would have 😆
  7. Good to see ya back out on the pond! Lack of smb 😆
  8. Pretty much yes.. There's always shallow largemouth somewhere. High water years more bass stay shallow. Size always varies quite a bit no matter the month. Late Winter time is the tougher time of the year for me to catch bass from the bank. Say After Christmas through mid January. They just don't feed as often, aren't as many shallow, but they can be found. These bass I've been catching recently have been spawners.

    What's Cooking?

Fish and Fungi Fried Walleye, Crappie, and Spotted bass
  10. Fished the last half hour before dark until 8:30. Never had a bite after dark. Same shallow worm bite. this one was in 3 fow and Pulled like a tractor! Released.
  11. I don't mind getting wet to catch fish. Water isn't that cold anymore. I wade out to where I can reach some of these spawning fish with a long cast that are about 3-6' on the bottom. Had my first topwater fish of 2021 today. Kentucky, the one and only topwater bite of the morning. Fished just a couple hours both mornings. Caught 10 bass total. 5 spots,5 lm. All on plastic worms except one. This was the biggest one caught this morning.. Had 2 get away that were the same size approximately.
  12. Surprised you didn't find the shallow small mouth finesse bite They are pretty easy caught I heard. If my old man can catch 30+ they are biting pretty good 😆 thought he 8-15' on the bottom.

    What's Cooking?

Springer Mountain Farm 🐔 🐔 The one in foil is Cajun recipe The other is just s&p. Smoked with charcoal, oak and hickory for 2.5 hours at 250° then wrapped them up in foil for another 2-3hr at 220-225°. Should be ready around 3ish. Love trying to keep temps regulated with a steady 15-20+wind😆 gusting to 25-30 man! Ate the breast and the rest of the bird just collapsed it was so tender.
  14. Wt 57-60 Got out a few times. Fished from shore twice. Caught one almost keeper walleye on a Shakey head, and some small bass. Those bigger fish I was catching have not wanted to play. I'm guessing it's due to the alage bloom? Water is red where I was catching some and it was very hard to get bit there. Water dropping maybe? Lack of rain run off ? Probably all of the above 😆 Next couple times I went I took the boat. First day was ok. Forgot the batteries for my electronics so that made it impossible to see what depth I needed to be focused on. I just tried to guess, and we all know how that doesn't work most of the time. Caught some small Kentuckys and lm on grubs half way back in coves on the NW side out away from the bank shallow suspended. Couldn't buy a bite in the bushes, or on the bottom with anything. Just a weird day. No carp or shad activity whatsoever. I don't think I saw a single fish jump or make a splash for hours. Next trip, I remembered the batteries, but the electronics wouldn't turn on! Darnit, how the heck to do you find brush piles and crappie in 15+ fow without electronics! So, I fiddled with the wiring, determined it was faulty batteries. Managed to find a handful of big black crappie ,but without eyes underwater it was difficult. Once I actually found a deep brush pile I hung my jig in it on purpose, reached up and cut my line ,and attached a bobber to it to use as a marker buoy and It worked! As warm as the water it getting I'm surprised to find these crappie still way offshore and deep. I tried fishing near the bank dipping crappie jigs in 1-9' and never got a bite. Another week and things will be different.😉
  15. Planted 30 tomato seeds indoors 27 sprouted. 23 Belgium pink, 4 cocktail. made a 40x40 plot in the back yard strictly for sweet corn this year. Will be doing a little pepper side project too. Was gifted some lumber and will attempt to make a garden bed of some kind with it. Just waiting for the plants to grow up now. Next update will be outside.
  16. Another option is to get a brush pile permit, you'll probably need one,and cut some cedars off the banks or something.
  17. Thanks for posting!

  19. Congratulation guys!
  20. I wonder how many MO record yellow perch from Bull have been eaten and never considered for a record? I bet it's quite a few based on what I've seen over the years while living there.
  21. Heck no, it's mid March! They like that warmer muddy water
  22. Fished from shore 9:30-12:30 S/SW wind, muddy Same place as Saturday. Knee deep water. I rolled up my pants and waded out to get to these fish today. Caught 8 keepers on a worm, and 2 short bass, 10 total, all largemouth. No love on the plugs this time. Just way too much floating debris. These were the biggest. Free the fighters! Support catch and release
  23. I drove across the Theodosia bridge early in the morning. Water was muddy, and there's quite a bit of debris floating. Once the wind blew it mostly moved to the banks though. That area is always trashy after a bunch of rain.
  24. Fished from shore 9-1 E/SE wind, muddy. Same pattern as yesterday, but a different spot. Lots of shad activity. Caught 8 largemouth. The biggest 3.
  25. Fished from shore 11:30-2 Muddy water thanks to the 3.5" rain overnight. Knee deep water. Caught 13 in the same spot. Fish would come and go. Catch a couple then nothing for fifteen- twenty minutes then catch a few more. First time trying this lure, they like it! Here's a tip. When fishing these kind of baits around and in wood cover cut the one hook that hangs down off the front treble. Plug rarely snags. See pics.
