  1. green mamba and the look on your face says the venom's neurotoxins have reached their destination . . . . or its "name that solvent I've been sniffing", and I'd guess toulene or Testor's model airplane glue
  2. Never seen a water snake that white and red. Check out this link and look at the underbelly markings. http://magickcanoe.com/blog/2007/03/16/favourite-moments-7-eastern-milk-snake/ I'm sticking with milk snake.
  3. Mark - by early June the fishing will be better. I think the smallies have other things on their mind right now. Either that or the water was quite chilly - I'd guess in the low 50s. Big high-pressure with sunny blue skies could've been another factor. I love that river. We got into a discussion of which we like better, the Buffalo or the Jacks. We all agreed that we like the Jacks. Fewer people and just as scenic.
  4. Doesn't look like any water snake I've ever seen. Milk snake?
  5. Just back from there. Floated Saturday and Sunday Blue Springs to Rymers, camped on a nice gravel bar opposite a good sized bluff. Water was skinny in places, but very floatable. The fishing was pretty lousy though. Saw a few beds, but couldn't tell if they were sunfish beds or what. Perfect weather on Saturday. Yesterday was a little on the windy side. River could use a good rain.
  6. Cool video SB.
  7. Wow!! Nice fish Gavin. Looks like you had a great time.
  8. What is a scotty flush mount? Is that some kinda kayak inboard toilet? This geek-meter is pegged at 10 on this one. I'll just take the bag of chompers, please!
  9. I am engendered to favor styrofoam worm containers. And the more them french canada dry folks hate 'em, the more I like em! How many wars they ever fought? Syrup and hockey is all they got. And besides, styrofoam keeps the nightcrawlers colder longer and therfore juicier. And I don't know what an antecedent is, unless that's the cheese soaked ants you can get at the trout parks that are coated in poppy-seed dressing. Yeah, very familiar with those, and they work well, too. Sometimes the wild trout of Crane want an ice-cold worm with a tip of antecedent on a #12 gold aberdeen (i.e. dead drifted). um-hmm. I want to start a tournament to fish Crane. Look for an announcement on a separate page. Everyone is welcome. Canadians, non-sustainers, litterers, trash picker-uppers, profiteers, opium and fireworks dealers, . . . all are welcome. Everything will cancel out and we'll all probably get bit by snakes and the winning fish will be 9 inches. But he'll get a trophy and a t-shirt signed by . . . Paul Dallas
  10. Hi, my name is Bert from Sesame Street. I never have fished Crane . What color of powerbait they biting on? All I have right now is orange sherbert - I bought that 'cause my names Bert. And can me and Ernie drive our 4-wheeler down the creek from the park to the low wire road? Its a Yamaha XBA with a big ole muddin tires on it, so it can go pretty deep. I enjoyed the video and showed it to all my pals, but even Cookie Monster would not believe that fish was 20+.
  11. I was gonna say, it almost looks like the middle Meramec. Still, that kind've boat could run up just about anything and the only thing stopping them would be a large deadfall across the whole creek.
  12. Those videos are very disturbing. Running up water that small. The tacky 70's rock pretty much defines the demographic. There's gotta be some way or ruining the intake on one of those, or where can I get some WWII floating mines?
  13. Dude - I just got sick looking at those pictures. Put some laundry away a minute ago and there was one sitting right on one of my t-shirts.
  14. Or something like that. Can't throw a rope but I can throw a bass plug. I'm the Charles Bukowski of bass, baby.
  15. I was too, Ron, but once I got the giltter paint job done on my canoe and had Mrs. Dallas stich me on a bunch gawdy patches for my shirt . . . . I took one look in the mirror and said, "darn, Paul, you look good"
  16. Paul Dallas is in.
  17. Good one Chief. Thats a good start, but you forgot a-rigs and felt (but thats already been accomplished).
  18. Sounds above par in my book. Good report!
  19. I'm not in favor of a ban on jets, just on certain sections like I mentioned. Having seen many fly by me in very skinny water on many occasions on many rivers. . . its very hard not to see it as disruptive, disrespectful, and offensive. I just think a line needs to be drawn on where they can go and where they cannot. How many total miles of the Meramec is there? 194 miles, okay I just checked. Whats wrong with saying the upper 25%, or 50 miles is for non-motorized watercraft only? And I completely agree on the party floaters, Scott. There needs to be a total boat # limit for certain rivers, and once that # is exceeded, no more can put in. At the very least, step up the water patrols as they have been doing and keep the pressure on by issuing tickets. Condoms floating by -- thats just sick.
  20. Thanks, Scott and Jeremy. We had a great time.
  21. Courtois last Sunday we spent more time skipping rocks than fishing, but I didn't see many fish and when I did fish, nary a bite. Still beautiful to be out.
  22. I'd be in favor of a ban on jetboats on the following sections including all tributaries: Meramec and tributaries above Onandaga or at least above Hwy 19 Big River above Mammoth Bridge Current River above Akers Eleven Point above Turners North Fork above Patrick bridge Jacks Fork above Eminence Big Piney above I-44 Gasconade above I-44 James River - above I don't care Some hammerhead was running his jet up well up into Courtois last weekend. And I've seen jetboats as far up as Baptist on the Current. Eleven Point they can be a real nuisance. I hate the dambed things.
