Are you serious? I see a HUGE difference. Taney gets a couple million trout dumped into it per year vs. what, a couple thousand at the Current? Also a LOT more fishable water on Taney, compared to a few select holes or runs on the 7 miles that is the Current. The Current isn't going to have a FRACTION of the 20-inch plus fish per mile that Taney does. I've seen a big increase in the traffic on the Current outside the park in the last few years. Granted, fishing the Current with big stickbaits is hardly a secret anymore, but fish porn posts like this certainly don't help.

This thread needs to be deleted along with the pictures, Gavin, thanks. This doesn't do the river or any of us any good.

Great book on the subject . . . "Carp Fishing on Valium" by Graham Parker. Springfield has 1 or 2 golf courses that really try hard to be something, and with water hazards so pretty and inviting they beg for trespassing in the 1st degree. But they're zealously guarded by Nazis and pinkerton guard dogs. Go at night, bring a weapon, and wear some plaid knickers and skip the carp and fly rod. Stock up at Dillons on west Sunshine and get a 12'er of Old Style, some Dr. McGuillicutty's Peppermint Schnapps and the bloodiest out of date chicken livers you can find. Scale the wrought iron fences there on the east side of 65 Hwy near that gigantic Baptist church, you know the one I'm talkin about, duct tape a flashlight to your Ugly Stick, superior firepower, superior intelligence . If you get caught, the plaid knickers will help with your story. Good luck.

Great little creek. I know the bridge you speak of. I take that way to RR as well. I've only fished there at the old steel bridge a couple times but its a pretty little creek. Haven't been there for years. Small creek smallies.

Smith Optics Polarized Sunglasses
ColdWaterFshr replied to eric1978's topic in General Angling Discussion
Eric, You must be signed up for the KVD Oakley Blades Tournament package at Big Cedar. Mr. D is too. But everyone knows the chicks no longer dig the Blades like they yous2, You know dis. D knows dis. They want the leopard print Smiths and the sweet jewelry and the big boats with all the wraps and sponsors. Its how we roll. And even though your offer is MOST generous . . . a discount of $15 what you paid online, its the free shipping and the original tagger that really reached out and grabbed me. Still, if its all the same, I got an interested party that wants actual pictures. Can you get that memory stick port fixxed? -
Let's Talk Smallmouth Lures...
ColdWaterFshr replied to Al Agnew's topic in General Angling Discussion
I used to fished the Zoom worms all the time, and other plastics all the time. I guess I just got bored with bumping the bottom and not seeing the vicious strike. One day I settled on a compromise and I ripped off the top third of a zoom worm and tipped my B-2 buzz-bait with it. It slows the buzz bait down a little and gives it more character. Instead of the smallies just chasing a clean, chopped off skirt, there is a froggy looking appendage dangling out the back. I can't throw a buzzbait without that curly tail trailer. Confidence falls in half or more. -
Let's Talk Smallmouth Lures...
ColdWaterFshr replied to Al Agnew's topic in General Angling Discussion
I got all those lures, but I find myself fishing almost exclusively with topwater in the warmer months. Not enjoying it as much any other way. Guess I've fallen in love with the visual smash. -

I know it. Incredibly lucky. Its good to know theres a lot of good, honest folks out there and that they are still in the majority. I think part of it is karma, too. Maybe a year and a half ago, a bunch of us were camped out at Ashley Creek gravel bar on the upper Current. We had floated in from Baptist and really took our time fishing the area pretty good. So along about 5 or 6 pm we decided it was cocktail hour and dinner prep time, and we were just sitting there relaxing when a woman and her teenage daughter floated by in kayaks. We waved at them, but thought it was strange to be getting such a late start. Didn't think much of it. Then a couple more hours passed and it got to be dusk and we heard some hollering coming from downstream. It was the woman and the daughter. They had paddled back upstream towards us at Ashley and wanted to know where Parker Hollow access was . . . they were concerned that they had passed it. Well, we told them they had a good 3 miles to go back downstream and with them being cold, wet, and exhausted from their upstream paddling, not to mention not having any flashlights, we didn't think it was such a wise idea for them to be paddling such a distance with it getting darker by the minute. Her husband was expecting them there quite some time ago. So my brother and I left our buddies at camp to enjoy the beer and dutch oven pizza we were preparing to get into. We told the mother and daughter to leave their kayaks, that we would tow them out the next day and we then hiked with them upstream on the fishermans trail with our headlamps and got to our van. Only took about a half hour. My brother then drove them down to Parker while I waited at Baptist in case someone came looking for them there -- I could tell them where they had gone. My brother said that when he got to Parker it was an emotional reunion - the husband/father was quite worried and several folks from the park service were there getting ready to launch a jet-boat search party to come look for them. So my brother drove back to Baptist and we hiked back to camp in the dark and the whole thing cost us a couple hours of time, but we were glad to do it. I think most people would've done the same thing. The next day we found a box of hand-tied flies along with a nice thank-you note on the van given to us by the Dad. Good things come around back on you sometimes. Thanks again, Troutdude!

Just spoke to Troutdude. Thanks so much!

C'mon, you're killing me, smalls. Asking me to identify my secret flies?? Paul Dallas would strongly object. I know the flies are ugly. I know they aren't classic. And I know firsthand that they don't catch fish. They will be a curse on whoever has them in their possession. They will drag you down and ruin you and poison your mind with evil thoughts of using your prized fly rods for firewood kindling.

Troutdude, PM sent. I floated Cedargrove to Welsh on Friday and Saturday. Left my vest hanging on a limb right at the waters edge on Saturday morning. Would much appreciate getting it back. Thank you for posting this here!! Lots of hand-tied work in that vest. Thanks, Andrew

Sorry to read this. Big fan of Chucks books which have been a valuable resource that I still use all the time. My books are worn out just like Ness mentioned. And I feel lucky to have met him at a Smallmouth Alliance Rodeo several years back where he was just as gracious, kind, and genuine as the tone he writes with in his books. RIP Chuck - he is with Sharon now at least. It would be a well deserved tribute and I am sure I'm not alone on this -- but wouldn't it be cool to see the Missouri Conservationist magazine devote a whole magazine to him and just what he has meant for fishing in our wonderful state?
-
Paul Dallas would like to thank all his sponsors for helping him place first with a record bag of 19.26 lbs. Big fish came in a little over 7 lbs on a b-z buzzbait and porkrind trailer working submerged cedars on a transitional bank near the mile marker 19.

Nice videos and nice chunky fish! Is that Clay Matthews you are fishing with?

Relaxation Comes To Those Who Farm And Fish
ColdWaterFshr replied to Justin Spencer's topic in Short Stories
Good story. All the key elements that make up a fantastic story are there and intertwined. ZZ top in camo, tennis elbow while fighting a good fish, Richard the bulls' bellowing, accusations of stealing, Inky's blood being absorbed by the cold ground, the wife yelling and the dogs. There is a lot going on there. I don't know what it all means, but its gritty and very real. Semi humorous, semi horrifying. -
Albright A5-Ns Rod
ColdWaterFshr replied to BredMan's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
This review of the A-5 is pretty interesting: http://www.yellowstoneangler.com/FlyRodComparisonAlbrightG.LoomisOrvisSageScottTempleForkThomasThomasTomMorganRodsmithsR.L.Winstonrodtesting.asp -
Nice picture, Ollie. I have the Pentax Optio something or other for several years now. I think its the 6 mp one. Great little camera that takes great pictures and suffers considerable abuse in my hands. Batteries last long. Best camera I've ever owned.

Albright A5-Ns Rod
ColdWaterFshr replied to BredMan's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Got some buddies that have the A5's and really like them. I've got a 5/6 weight Albright GP that came free with the purchase of $150 worth of other stuff from Albright. Its a great rod. Don't pay $550 for that rod. Wait for it to go on sale and it will be half that. Keep checking their website. -
Thanks everyone. I'll take it under advisement.

Nice report and good looking fish. 3 good days and the 3 best rivers in the state.
