Wanted - "dave Ramsey" Truck
MeatintheFreezer replied to MeatintheFreezer's topic in Buy - Sell - Trade
I didn't mean for this to be a pissing match about the best parenting techniques. Like Glorydaze said, to each their own. For the record, there is absolutely the expectation for college. I found a 97 dodge dakota 4x4 that was perfect for him. Thanks for the PMs -
Wanted - "dave Ramsey" Truck
MeatintheFreezer replied to MeatintheFreezer's topic in Buy - Sell - Trade
My boy has been mowing lawns in our neighborhood since he was 13 as well. His first $1500 dollars he saved went into a roth IRA I set up for him. I told him that as he saved for a truck, I would match dollar for dollar what ever he saved. I also made him the deal that if he maintained a B average, I would pay his first 6 months of insurance. He has held up his end of the deal on both, so I have held up my end. He is a great kid, never had a bit of trouble with him. As long as he continues to work at it, I don't mind helping him out when he needs it. -
Wanted - "dave Ramsey" Truck

Thanks,I really enjoyed the course. He doesn't reveal anything that is really groundbreaking, most of what he says is simply common sense that most people have probably thought of or even already tried. He does, however, put it together into a package that is hard dismiss. I get a kick out of hearing his seminars, he's an intertaining speaker. I wish his course was a manditory high school class! -
I am looking for a starter truck for my soon-to-be 16 year old son. I would like to stay in the $2000-$2500 range, but might splurge for the right vehicle. It must be mechanically sound, have clear title, and able to pass state inspection. If it looks good that's a plus. Preferably full size 4x4, but willing to consider all options. I would like to stay within 50 miles of Aurora, Mo., but I would venture out for the right deal. I have cash in hand, so PM my a pic and a brief description and let me know what you are asking.

Where Does Everybody Buy Their Seeds?
MeatintheFreezer replied to David Unnerstall's topic in Gardening
I have never put much thought into where my seeds originated, but it does make sense. If it was a "local" seed, you would think that it would have a better chance of flourishing here than anywhere else. I just ordered my seeds for this spring online through Gurney's, they have unique hybrids and guarantee everything for a year. You can't beat that. -
Oooops. I saw my name at the bottom of the page while reading this thread, so I better post something. I havent had my boat on the water since June, but if I was fishing right now I suppose I would be looking for balls of some ambiguous bait fish along a limestone bank and use a generic spoon to try to catch them. I would tell what rod/reel/line combination I would use but I dont want to give out to much informaiton. Thanks to those who post and who get to fish regularly. My job, family, money, hunting, etc. prevent me from getting out as much as I woould like. I enjoy reading about people who are getting to do what I wish I could be doing.

Nice list. The #1 is the most important one by a long shot, don't let that one fall through the cracks. My 2015 fishing goals mostly revolve around a family trip to Alaska coming up this summer, but here it is: 1) Remember fishing with my dad 2) Catch a halibut > 150 pounds 3) Catch salmon in both salt water & fresh water in the same day 4) Catch ling cod >35 pound 4A) Show photo to my buddies & convince them it is a giant walleye (back to Missouri) 5) Take my son striper fishing (and catch a few) Happy New Year everyone & tight lines!

My father, a great man who finally lost his battle with pulminary fibrosis in October, could tell great stories about the early days of Tablerock. He worked with my uncle running dozers clearing land around Shell Knob before the river was dammed up. He had tons of stories that I had heard a thousand times, but now wish I could hear them one more time. One story that stands out was when they were dozing down toward Baxter (I think the lake had been dammed by this point), they would take a boat from my uncles place on Turkey Mountain to work every day. They would work all day, then take turns water skiing back home after dark! When the got home, they fished for just a little while with a Lew's grape worm, and caught an 7lb 11oz bass....each! I have the photo of the twin bass caught less than 50 feet apart. I am not trying to hi-jack the thread, just wanted to take a moment to remember my dad, and to remind everyone to cherish the stories from this generation of folks, they wont be around forever. I cannot do these stories justice becuase I didn't experince them personally, so I just touched on the high-lights. That is where the magic comes from, in hearing it from someone who was there. They know the smells, the sounds, the details that cannot be written in text. Jimalert3, I tip my hat to you sir, purely out of respect for your experience and knowledge gained over a lifetime. I would love to read anything you might have to say about our local ozark history and your interactions with it.

Ducky, Thanks for the detail. I would interested to hear your view on saltwater tolling for kings with downriggers out in the inlets or bays vs fishing the rivers. I understand it is a different type of fishing, but I am talking catch rate. It that still the "boring" type fishing you mentioned in the Kenia or could a group expect to pick up enough to be intertaining? Looking at the map, I don't see much population around the Nush. Where do the outfitters dock & is there any lodging around?

I am in the infancy stages of putting together a family fishing trip for next summer. Up until recently, I had been looking primarily at Ontario because I've been there before and know what to expect. I was fortunate enough as a kid to get to fly in a few times with my family on vacations. Another reason I had been focusing on Canada is that it is within reasonable driving distance, which I prefer because there is plenty to see along the way. Recently however, I have turned my attention toward Alaska. I am greatly intrigued by the possibility of catching giant Kings & barn door halibut in the same trip. I understand that when comparing an Alaska trip to a Canada trip, travel expenses and costs in general scales up, but I am leaning toward this more and more each day. I know I have seen some of you post about going to Alaska, so I am looking for some pointers from anyone who knows of good outfitters & locations to look into. I am also curious if anyone has made the drive before.

Back in the late '80s my family flew out of Ft. Francis, Ontario through Rusty Myers fly in service. I have fished Wabakamanski & Wabakimi lakes and they were both outstanding for Walleye and Northerns. We literally caught fish until we were tired of it each day. Back then the cabins were pretty rustic with no electric or running water. There was a propane cook stove and fridge, some bunks, and a picnic table. Those are some of my best memories. Now, they cabins are fully electric with indoor plumbing. I have not been there since, but I think that some of the nostalgia has been lost by the modernization. I stumbled across this thread because I am researching an outfitter to use in 2015. My dad passed away last week, he always wanted to take one more trip back to Canada but his health never let him do it. I fully intend to take my family there in his memory.

Wrench, if that's true then I retract my comments........but only in this case. Thanks for the clarification.

What could the thought process possibly have been before letting a 4 year old pilot a PWC?? Dad: Tommy is growing up so fast..... he colors inside the lines, puts his shoes on the right feet and hasn't pooped himself since pre-school started last week. I think it's time I taught him to tear-butt around the lake and annoy fishermen on a jet ski. This reminds me of the 9 year old girl who shot the range instructor with an uzi last week in Phoenix. I feel the worst for the kids in both of these situations. I don't think we will be seeing either of these kid's parents nominated for parent of the year any time soon. A quick google search will show that this boy was not unique. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BJJgow6kRw

If you are new to the area and running toward CC ramp, there is one more stump you need to watch out for. The last turn before the ramp there is a lone stump out in the middle. If you make a wide turn you would be getting pretty close to it. It is right below the "A" in "Stockton Lake" on the map.
-
You are correct, this is a tricky section to run if you do not know what you are doing. I had to tow a boat back to CC ramp a month or so back after he hit a stump after dark in this same area. I am not a mapmaker or a graphic designer, but here is a map with a few spots marks where you really need to pay attention. The bottom circle is where the stump row runs out into the lake a ways. I had a buddy that used to screw a reflector to the last stump, but someone always took it down, The center circle is where the channel crosses the lake, I always come off plane when crossing this. The top circle is where there are some scattered trees the are right out in the middle of the lake. I always cut across the point just outside the tree line. Dont know if this helps, but that is my two cents.

Idiot Boaters Endangering Their Kids
MeatintheFreezer replied to merc1997 Bo's topic in Table Rock Lake
Then they will all be in the wood with guns....... -
I bought a Presto 16 quart from wally world a few years back and have had no issues at all with it. It can be used as a pressure cooker or a water bath canner. Seems like it was around $80 if I remember right.

This sounds delicious........I'm just trying to calculate how much Maker's Mark I would need to begin with to have 1 cup left at the 2 hour mark......

How was the water level, did you drag much? I see that the gauge at Galena is 2.8', that's getting pretty low in my experience to float without dragging quite a bit.
-
Galena on down to Blunks is another good float. JRO shuttles that as well.

There are several good places to fish below Cox access, but if you are going tomorrow you better get out early to beat the masses.

Here is my version of a fish taco with home-made "tartar sauce". We all enjoy them very well and thought I would toss it out to see what you guys thought of it. I would have posted photos, but if I would have taken the time to take pictures I wouldn't have had any left to eat! Start by making the sauce so it can rest in the fridge while you get everything else ready. Mix together the following: 1/2 cup mayo 1/2 cup plain yogurt 1 tsp dill weed 1/2 tsp cumin 1/2 tsp salt 1 tsp minced capers 1/2 tsp paprika 1 tbs sriracha (to taste) Slice some onions up thinly and cook them down in a small frying pan. Season to taste. Cut your favorite fish fillets into strips about an inch wide. Season & cook them how you wish. I have tried them grilled, baked, and fried. They work well either way, I personally like fried in cornmeal the best. shred some cabbage or use bagged cold slaw mix. Slice an avocado and you are ready to assemble. Grab a soft 8" tortilla then spread the sauce down the middle. Add in a few strips of fish, some cabbage, avocado, sauteed onions, and enjoy.

At the risk of getting back on the original topic of this post, I will share the following recent experience: My 15 year old son and I were night fishing on Stockton last Thursday night. We were a few miles below CC where the channel swings across the lake and is lined by stumps. Around 10 pm we noticed a boat coming from the South running faster than he should have been at night, I would guess around 50 mph. Another outstanding feature was his bow light was a green strobe light - seriously. He turned to his right, presumably to follow the channel across the lake. The problem was that he turned several hundred yards to soon. He ended up running across a stumpy mud flat that is less than 10 foot deep. We both clenched our teeth and I commented that there was another moron who had no business being on the lake after dark. Before I could finish my sentence, he ran over a stump on the driver's side. His boat rocked up completely on its side then righted itself, we could see the splash in his running lights. He never came off plane, turned a 180 and went back across the flat the same way he had came. We went back to fishing for another hour or two then decided to head for the house. We hadn't ran a mile down the lake and there was a boat in the middle of the lake flagging me down with a spotlight. It wasn't much of a mystery who it was with the flashing bow light. This guy not only almost killed himself and his passenger running over a tree, but he also ran out of gas trying to get back to the ramp. I tied him on and towed him back to the dock where he proceeded to tell me about another time he ran it aground on a sandbar! I lectured him on how he could have gotten seriously hurt running on the lake not knowing where he was. I told him there were taller trees in that area that would have killed them as fast as they were running. Of course, he knew every lake in this part of the country like the back of his hand......maybe that strobe light got in his eyes. Anyway, the punch line to this whole story is that while I was backing my trailer in, my son was on the dock with our boat and the guys in the other boat. The guy told my son he was trying to sell his boat and asked if he knew anyone who might be interested. So..... if anyone out there is looking for a Nitro Z6 that has been ran aground, has stump rash from nose to tail, no gas gauge, and a flashing bow light he is only asking $7000 for it!!! Someone please buy it and get this moron off the lake.

2 Beautiful Smallmouth And Something I Have Never Caught Before...

Nice catches! I know that giant log. I plan on floating that section tomorrow. I hope I can as good a time as it looks like you did.
