  1. Yes there are at least 20 species of dogfish (Squalus) species. The one that I would like to catch is the spiny dogfish.
  2. I never verified this, but an old friend said that his dad and buddies would take small cats and fish for tiger sharks in the Gulf of Mexico off of Texas coast.
  3. That is a beast of a brown trout! Congrats! I have thought about using a mouse fly on the Current at night. One of the guys here in Maryland caught a 30 inch brown on a mouse fly. I also knew a guy that would tie a hook to a live mouse, put it on a Styrofoam raft and send it out for bass. Once it got out far enough he would jerk the mouse off of the raft. Not sure how legal that was at the time. Certainly would not be a PETA approved bait. Don't ask me about cats .

  5. Great Striper! Congrats!
  6. Let's just hope that the Mrs. doesn't read this thread before you guys head west. Someone we know may be hanging out with Sadie !

    What's Cooking?

Ok this is the last meal that I felt was OAF worthy. My Betterhalf was cleaning out the freezer some more and pulled chicken thighs and legs. She was going to make soup. I gave her some thoughts on an Italian Hunter stew - chicken cacciatore. She browned the chicken in olive oil in a dutch oven. she removed the chicken and then sauted diced onion, green and red peppers, and sliced garlic in the oil. One the onions were translucent and the peppers softened a bit, she added slices of chanterelle mushrooms. She put the chicken back in the dutch oven, added crushed tomatoes, and sauce, basil and oregano, then about 1/2 cup of chardonnay. Simmered for about 30 minutes till the meat fell on the bone. Served over rice.
  8. I have got to see this. Let me know when you are going to make this happen.
  9. That is an awesome example of a naturalized McCloud river rainbow! Just shows that there is new recruitment even with the droughts the last couple of summers. Now that is a great fish. A southern redbelly dace! Thanks for posting some great photos! Wish I could get back to Crane! See any pickerel?
  10. Have three at least three and maybe a fourth at Folly farm😁. Packed the bow for the move. Most likely safe from two legged predators.
  11. I would hate to tell you that you're wrong but I don't hate it😁. NASCAR avg speed 130.453 mph at Daytona versus Indycar (not F1 buddy there was actual passing) 149.737 mph at Iowa. Far more driver skill needed to race at faster speeds when you can't just push your way to the front.
  12. Got a 410 and now a pelletgun from family. I have to get relatives like those. Got any to spare buddy?!? I didn't get out for any squeals this year. Love those tender little guys. Congrats! Sure that the fall rabbits should be scared as well!
  13. Great brown trout! Congrats! About the cold, you have to love having to soak the boat and then shake it to get it unfrozen and off the trailer😁. I'll be working to get to the White for Jigfest. Would love to meet you and maybe get to fish with you. Maybe a side trip for cutthroats.
  14. Can't watch the taxi cab demolition derby races😌!
  15. A friend of mine "collects" race tracks that he has been to and seen races. He and I were talking about how we can get together and him having another new track. I mentioned the Barber Motorsports complex in Alabama. That track is one of my favorites and the racing is usually very good. Also the Cahaba river runs within a couple of miles from the track. That would be the home of the Cahaba redeye bass ! Two birds one stone my friends.
  16. Here I was thinking that I was a road warrior fisherman with 400 to 500 mile round trip day trips. You got me beat buddy. Also you were half way to Maryland. Just saying!
  17. Sounds like a great day even if hot. Congrats on a variety of fish. That sucker looks like it might be a black redhorse. That crappie with the black mark is really cool. I heard of them being called blacknose crappie. My buddy has a pond that he stocked with crappie and about half were that strain. Congrats!
  18. That would be a lot for me, especially fishing with @Ham ! Never caught a bat, had lots and lots of close calls especially with foam/feather poppers at dusk. I've caught snapping, painted, and a loggerhead turtle (fortunately it only held the bait in its closed mouth. It let go as I pulled it into the surf). Caught frogs, water snakes, and I did catch a 4 1/2 foot alligator. Only bird that I caught was a pelican, but no mammals.
  19. Dan you are the fisherman! Nice largemouth!
  20. I've never fished one of those reels but you story reminds of my first fish with a flyrod. I was drifting a white dry fly and lost site of the bait. I pull up the line and start my back cast and a 5 inch fallfish goes flying past my head and onto the bank behind me 😌. Poor little guy didn't know what happened.
  21. DT Congrats on some decent fishing in Taney! Too bad you lost that brown. Were you using 4# line?
  22. You've touched on a few points that we have discussed before and have become the concerns that I have about triploid fish particularly brown trout. They have manipulated the fish so that it will not reproduce but puts on weight instead. To me they should be thought about separately from diploids in terms of what it means to be a trophy. To me a 6# diploid trout is a trophy. For a triploid maybe that is a 12# or even a 15# fish. Don't get me wrong since I would love to catch either fish over 6#. If it is a diploid fish there will likely be a reproduction mount made😁. If a triploid I will trying for a bigger one.
  23. I would have needed my speargun😁.

Marty where do you pick up your Elcheapo italian dressing. I can't find that brand at our local store. Is it a Mexican brand of dressing😝? We don't have a tomato jungle. So hardly enough to just to pick and eat let alone enough to dry them. Will try the dehydrated cukes.
  25. I must not have an honest looking face. Been checked a few times in Columbia during the winter trout season. More than a few times at Little Dixie lake. Again after our musky trip in May. I was even used as a blocker for a agent in Maryland. I was fishing a small pier and saw the agent crouched down behind me with a pair of binos. He was watching the couple across the inlet from me. They had just caught and kept a striper before the season opened. So off he went to give them a citation. When I was a teen I was checked while fishing in PA. My brother got checked and issued a citation for not having his license on his person and visible. I will admit to two wildlife citations. Both in Florida. One was diving without a diver down flag. We tried to say that we were within 150 yards of shore. It was actually almost 500 yards off shore. We also had two under sized lobsters. I was using my dive knife as a ruler and it was about an 1/4" short of the legal limit. An honest mistake. We just had to through them back. We were able to keep our legal lobsters and two grouper that I hand caught. That was a great meal by the way. We had our day in court the next morning to pay our fines. At least there were no 8 by 10 color glossy pictures with circles and arrows or a paragraph on the back of each one to be used as evidence against us. The next citation was due to being lazy. I was at work a decided to fish a drainage canal at lunch. My license expired a couple of days before. I was fishing for ten min without a bite in a spot where its possible to catch 30 to 50 in an hour. I finally land a bluegill when the agent pulled up😌. That was a $72 sunfish.
